2~3 chapters behind the latest, I think.

I've recently opened myself up to a bit of anime. I'm still pretty reserved, I have very hefty criteria, but it's a start since I wouldn't even touch it before (with the exception of Avatar/Korra, both of which I've always loved).

Now, I consider myself a very big fan of the Ghost in the Shell franchise, especially Stand Alone Complex. The best type of art and animation, great cyberpunk storytelling with an almost Splinter Cell-like vibe and -- thankfully -- a fantastic English dub.

I also highly recommend Nightmare of the Wolf, the Witcher prequel anime film. Downright gorgeous art and animation, stellar English dub and a great story.

Furthermore, some of the episodes of Star Wars Visions were worthwhile (though most of them ranged from average to atrocious), especially episode 5 which was made by Production IG, the same studio that handles GITS after the original film; they're a top 3 studio for me.

Oh, and it has its flaws but I really enjoyed Yasuke. The robots were a bit excessive but all of the historical and fantasy elements were fantastic and the art was ridiculously gorgeous.

The next two I plan to check out are Cowboy Bebop and Castlevania. As I said, I have pretty hefty criteria when it comes to anime: it has to have art and animation that appeal to me (I prefer that more realistic approach that ATLA/Korra/GITS have), it has to have decent, non-cheesy storytelling and not go over-the-top like DBZ and that sort of anime and it also has to have a decent English dub, as I can't get into anime where I have to read subtitles. If I want to read, I'll pick up a book. When I watch animation, I want to admire the art as I enjoy the story.

Jujutsu Kaisen (season 1). Good Shōnen are not legion, so you better watch this one.

I've recently finished watching the original Mobile Suit Gundam from 1979. It is old of course, and it shows in the animation, but I really enjoyed it. It has that 70s charm, and a great soundtrack with lots of jazz (I'm a sucker for those). It has some pretty intense battle scenes, and this is where it shines, along with the interactions between the crew on the White Base. Despite (probably) being aimed at children, the story is surprisingly dark, showing the horrors of war. The story is also a lot easier to follow, unlike Gundam Wing..

It became available on Crunchyroll this year (and probably other streaming services). I highly recommend checking it out. I got through its 43 episodes rather quickly.

If you don't want to deal with old animation, Mobile Suit Gundam Seed (2002) follows almost the exact same formula. If you've watched one, you almost know what's gonna happen in the other. It's that similar. I enjoyed Seed a lot too, but I still prefer the original MSG. Just beware that Seed has some really unlikeable characters.

I am not a big anime fan so I don't really watch any series. However... I absolutely love Rurouni Kenshin! The whole premise with a hippie samurai who doesn't want to kill any more no matter how difficult the situation is is great.

Didn't like Samurai X as much since it happens before his solemn oath of not killing but yes, everyone should watch Rurouni Kenshin even if they normally do not watch any anime.

I've just started watching the first few episodes of Stein's Gate. So far it seems quite fun and interesting, although the main character (Okabe) is quite self-obsessed and obnoxious. It's a bit hard to believe so many cute girls would be willing to put up with his crap! Lol

Dont see many Kenshin fans, especially after what happened with the author. I do think the live action is better than the anime in some respects (more faithful) but the manga still tops both.

My top manga are (not in any order):
Death Note (manga is best)
Fullmetal Alchemist (manga is best)
Kingdom (manga by far)
Rurouni Kenshin
Boys over Flowers (Japanese tv show is pretty good)
Monster (anime is not bad but still manga)

If going by strictly anime, checking out Kimetsu no Yaiba, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Overlord arnt bad for a decent time. Nice animation quality and the stories are decent. I heard good things about Psycho Pass and Ghost in a Shell but not wanting to pay extra on Prime.

The movies are very well done indeed. I love the anime up to Shishio's arc, after that, not so much. But the Yukishiro Enishi arc live action totally outdoes the anime's, in my opinion.

Agreed. The jinchu arc is one of my favorites. Kyoto is more action-packed but Jinchu cuts deeper and finally explores Kenshin's backstory which was also pretty great. It also finally gets a release with the live action films.

Anime after Kyoto arc was basically filler because it caught up to the manga (something that happens with tons of shows like the first Fullmetal Alchemist) which is why the story quality dropped, or basically reverted back to pre-Kyoto substories.

Btw, have you read the Hokkaido arc?

-The gundam series (mainly the ones that revolve around the UC century).

-Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (great and impactful story)

-Girls und Panzer (fun anime to watch)

-The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. (this anime is freaking funny)

-Astra Lost in Space (mainly because I love the plot twist)

-Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song (both the great animation and soundtrack really complement one another in delivering the powerful story)

Lastly, there definitely are many other anime that I don't include in this list, since I don't really remember most of the anime that I've watched as well as the fact that I often stop watching halfway. I also am not really that interested in watching anime that are already loaded with hundreds of episodes, so anime like One Piece or Naruto are definitely excluded from the list.
