The problem is that all the low hanging fruit has already been picked. The fruit at the top is tangled in too many branches to get to. Companies that don't care (like Sony or Microsoft), expired licenses (which will never be renewed again) or publishing/game rights lost in limbo, never to be found again. GOG can't just wave a magic wand and magically solve those issues.

My advice is - treat those games as abandonware and should they ever appear for sale, just retroactively buy them. No reason the games shouldn't be enjoyed.

Have you actually read the Steam forums? A far more honest appraisal would be:-

- "Bought DOS game in 2023. Sux because grafix r bad compared to 2023 games of same price"

- "I'm boycotting this game because Epic Store got it before we did. No Steam No Buy! Tim should die in a fire!"

- "The game is apparently good but has no achievements. If I can't brag to my friends about how wonderful I am, the game doesn't deserve me..."

- "Why u ask for DRM-Free? ur a pirate!"

- 99% of comments left on other people's negative reviews : "How dare you dislike what I like! u suck"

GOG forum may have its issues but Steam forum is anything but "the land of milk and honey"... ;-)

To be fair: it has been better in the past (depending on one's expectations, of course).
No comparison to nowadays (with only 14 titles left)...

Is Doom 3 (the original) not and old game?

Not the last two of the TR franchise, and about Hitman...let's not talk about Hitman.

Oh, so it's one of those "I'm on GOG, where are all the OGs?" thread. We haven't had any of these in a while now (/sarcasm)...

And neither of those are from "late 90's to late 00's" (OP's definition of old).

There IS the option to sort games by release date in the search form ...
And the release dates are usually accurate (if it's not a remaster or a collection).
This way it would be easy to find the games in question,

There are plenty of games from the requested timeframe.
There are over 700 games listed with a release date from 1993 to 2005.

So, that escalated quickly...

First of all, thanks to all that really want to help. I appreciate it. :)

To the others: I was or am in no way complaining but merely stating an observation and asking for different opinions and/or knowledge. Most of the times I stay off of forums and newssites, so it'd be quite possible some of you know more than me.
I don't hate on gog but I am getting the impression that the direction in which they are going is changing and want to confirm or negate that said impression.

A few other points:

The list of games was an example. I tried to choose games I thought were not available but mostly I just took a look at my shelf of games at home and picked a few to set the tone. I didn't doublecheck, but thanks anyways for the note about Tomb Raider and Hitman. Turns out: i have already bought them here. :)

There are over 700 games here from that period, yes. I bought about 550 to 600 games already. So, those which are already available and interest me, I have.

I didn't call Zoo Tycoon a classic, just a classic game. There is a difference.

So you already know that there are new games coming, after all you bought them. Not all of them have been available over a year ago.

It would be indeed helpful however if we could sort games also by "release data on GOG" and not just when the game was published originally.

No worries, I wasn't casting aspersions, just that it seemed out of place in that list - neither famous nor noteworthy :) Not saying that it's a bad game or anything.

I have plenty of games like that that I bought from that time on my shelf too. Physical media is harder to forget about unless you dispose of it and why would anyone do that?

Yeah, I know that they are still releasing such games. As I said in my first post: it just seems less and less...

Zoo Tycon, Rollercoaster Tycoon, Industry Giant... Big fan of those kinda games. :)

Rollercoaster Tycoon is on here - just make sure to get it when it is on sale (i.e. not right now) and look at something like:
OpenRCT2 for quality of life updates.

Similarly for games like Caesar 3 you have Julius/Augustus - you need the base game files, but the continued development is in fan-based projects.

Surprised Warcraft 3 hasn't been mentioned yet.
