No thanks. I'd prefer they keep things simple, no coupons or credits or blue coins or trading cards or or or... I know we already get those store credits, I've never really figured out why (related to regional pricing?), but all it means to me that yeah ok I got some extra discount for my purchases, wheee!

And, for some of us, they have "many games cost more for you than for the USA-ians, so you get the difference back for some of those".

I would rather see GOG send out $5 store credit for users that haven't bought anything in one year.

For people from countries with higher regional pricing than the base price, it would mean that they would get nothing. Right now you have to pay around 15% more for many games when you live in Germany for example. A 6% discount would make the game cheaper, but as a result a German customer would get less store credit. The only one who profits would be GOG.

The point of such a system would be to lure customers in. The problem is how you value these rewards. They should be toned down. That and the reward should be once in a lifetime, not twice per year.

There's another problem though which is the revenues being thrown onto loyalty reward programs as opposed to say, changing the system to something better to lure in more people such as developing GOG Galaxy, after all it is built to serve the purpose of luring in the client loving people. That should be it. Fill customer demands and supply them. That should bring them more attention. But see, this is looking at it from GOG's side. From the customer's side, like others said, you're better off not spending to save up money...unless you want to spend in order to get free money to spend later.

I recall running the numbers with The Witcher series, and assuming I used the store credit, the whole series was cheaper for me as a European than for an American one, even though the European prices were higher. That may have been a quirk with The Witcher series specifically, but assuming you do use the store credit (and if you own 20% or more of the catalog, you will), then the regional pricing doesn't matter all that much.

Do tell me if you want me to run the numbers again once I'm properly awake.

P.S. There are already times when people get less store credit than others, mainly loyalty sales (see Hard Reset: Redux for example). Some Europeans will get €2.40 in store credit, others will get €0.40. An additional 5% discount would still provide the proper store credit for the price you paid.

I totally understand wanting free stuff and loyalty schemes. I think we have enough of those, and they're not very fair. I get enough of that bull at the local grocery stores.

Besides, there are sales and bundles with a buy-more discount-more schemes on gog already. At least they're open to everyone and not just freaks like me with hundreds of games in the library. I *really* think that's enough.

I feel I should point out that they have done a "loyalty reward" thing before at least once: they sent out T-shirts (don't remember if anything else was included) to the people with the largest account libraries. Ask Barry_Woodward -- he was supposed to have been one of the recipients.
