People who say nice things all the time are usually extremely fake & you're only setting yourself up for a major disappointment if you invest in them. There, I just saved you half a lifetime of tears.
...except my whole life up to this day has taught me differently. I have always been good enough a judge of character to 'pick out' the truly nice people and avoid the fakes based on interaction and communication, without having to stick with judging just their actions.
Besides, I'm not talking about saying only nice things all the time. I'm talking about respect for the people around you and how you convey your message, not the message itself.

I disagree. I will not change my behaviour and feelings just so these people can go on without changing theirs. And in almost any non-virtual environment I don't have to, either. If these things happen at work (and I'm talking about proven incidents of racism, threats etc. not small and simple disagreements), these people get reported to security and we take it to the police if matters are serious enough. That solves the problem in favor of the victims, not the perpetrators.
