zeogold: Heck, you wouldn't even need to pay me for it, I'd do it for free as a volunteer position.
avatar
Dalthnock: I meant that.

avatar
zeogold: .......what, even? O_o
I'm just pointing out how readily many of us, including myself, would do it so long as it didn't have the requirement of moving to Poland...not sure what you're getting at.
avatar
Dalthnock: I'm just pointing out that doing it for free would cost someone a potential job. No need to get so defensive, I wasn't "getting at" anything.

You'd do it for a hobby, someone might do it because they need the money. That's all.
I think you misunderstood me. I wasn't referring to the job offered in the OP, I was suggesting they open a bit of a "lesser" volunteer position which didn't require the Poland move which stops so many people from applying.
Edit: Removed Euro 2016 related post in case someone didn't see the match and wishes to enjoy the rerun.

In that case, yes, I misunderstood you. Sorry about that.

Dalthnock: If you're offering to do a job for free, you're devaluating the job & possibly blocking a few people from being able to earn money that they might need a lot more than you.

This type of situation also tends to spread, so any former jobs that might've been paid, will no longer be, the employee will be replaced by a volunteer.

Please don't do that.

I can't go to Poland, I'm on the "No Fly" list.

I'm not a terrorist or anything it's just that I like to sleep when I'm on a long flight, and well, I sleep in the nude.

Do they disinfect the seats after each trip? Or do they allow the myriad ass juice seep into the fabric, over time creating a rough crust of disquieting odour?

Don't ask me. Ask tinyE after he's flown with them a few times.

Pretty sure tinyE has stated basically the same thing as well.
The problem with volounteer moderators is that you can't be sure that they're going to be as fair and unbiased as they should, they often have consirerable ego problems, and they tend to lose their shit quite easily when put under pressure.
People who risk their paycheck on the other hand... well, they still break sometimes, but considerably less often.

The-Business: Now let's speak about Polish...
Sure. "Polish is just as awesome!"

Done.

Fairfox: I would toooo! I mean... I don't think I'm hated by most anybody and get on well with y'all. Apart from likeee one or two, obvs, but they randomly hate everyone.
I would totally be ok with you (and Zeo and even tinyE) becoming a mod here.
...Sure, we'd all have to learn a new form of English, but that's a small price to pay, I'm sure you could set up a workshop or two for us :-P

I'm aware of that issue, but if they goof up too much to the point that the community starts clamoring about it, they can get booted off the team by the staff.
If payment is required, one could easily be "paid" for this position with a $9.99 GOG code per month or something like that.

I'm too close to a troll to be a mod. Zeo would be a good mod. He doesn't have temper tantrums like I do.

skimmie: even tinyE
As much as we all like tinyE, I'm....honestly not sure he'd make that great of a mod. He's had a few grudges before, and you just can't have that as a moderator. You gotta be neutral in everything.

Edit: He beat me to it himself.

That's why I don't want to be a mod.
I want to be King or Emperor or something like that.
Yes.
God-Emperor of GOG.

Note that it is not my intent to question the personal integrity of the three fine people you mentioned, but I agree with Avogadro6 that there's something about "modship" that, in my personal observance, changes most people & if that happens, it's never for the best.

Sure, I've seen some fine, upstanding mods but those were the minority - the vast minority.

I've also seen some mods that trolled harder than anyone else, but those are a rare gift, indeed.

If GOG ever had the horribly bad idea of implementing volunteer moderators, then things would get better for a very small percentage that shared the same ideals as the mods, while the rest would be silenced, driven off, or blatantly abused - no matter who you'd choose.

Nah, that never happens. Those mods are in place precisely so the staff doesn't have to wade through the bullshit.

So any feedback the staff gets is all filtered by the mods.

And now you're aware of the whole issue, as I'm sure you can see the potential for such abuse to go undiscovered for years.
