tinyE: Honestly the first time I saw that movie, I thought they had made up the sensory deprivation chamber.
avatar
Emachine9643: I highly recommend it! I learned about it from Joe Rogan and then Vice magazine. It was a blast. I honestly still trying to figure out what the hell happened in there.
avatar
mindblast: How tall is the tallest man on Earth?
avatar
Emachine9643: 8 feet 3 inches
I love Joe Rogan. His podcast is great.

Vice is also great :)

glad you had fun. I don't think i could ever do it as i hate just sitting in warm water. Dislike bathtubs, hot tubs, etc etc etc. Swimming and stuff, totally fine, sitting doing nothing, very horrible.

Emachine9643: It's a completely dark chamber that is sound proof. The water is body temperature so when you are in it, it doesn't feel like anything. There's a ton of epsom salt in there and that's what makes you float and I do mean float. I lost perception (i think its the term) for space/time. Like laying down in the center there is about a foot of space on each side of your body so when my body drifted to one side and touched that wall and I gently nudged away from it. Its felt like I was traveling, flying across the tub and it felt forever before I smacked into the other side. I saw things too.
I remember Rhett and link talking about going to one out of curiosity. They mention quite explicitly that once your brain acclimates to not constantly working and filtering through the normal noise we hear every second of every day (and shuts down where you can have an experience) you need something like 30-45 minutes afterwards just to get used to the world again, as you'd have trouble just walking straight after you came out of the chamber.

I'd honestly love to go to one, but not sure if i'm in an area where one's available, plus i wouldn't be surprised if it costs far more than i think it should :P

What if you have to pee or poo?

I mean, does it feel as orgasmigally good too in the sensory depravition chamber?

I'm quite sure they'd let you out, but you really should have gone beforehand... I'm sure cleaning the chamber is quite expensive so if you're expecting to have a case of the runs, you should probably pay an extra $2,000 up front just in case...
It would be cool if they could invent a system that gives you nutrients so you could potentially float for days without feeling hungry and something that gives an effect to sleep so you won't get tired..you are just being without being human.

Sounds like a very interesting experience, I'm going to check if anything like that is available where I live.

Then they could also use your body heat for energy. Wait, there was a movie about that, right?

The Matrix

Nuff said. No thanks!
Noting Tizzysawr's comment. Are you in fact stating that you have just visited the steam forums?

So that's what it's called! (Not like I have the three movies plus Animatrix or anything...)
I've had the pleasure of using one on a number of occasions, loved every minute.
Second time around i woke with....a large lump, a really large lump.
Did you see anything about a sequel to Sacrifice ?
Oh God, I never tried this! How I suck!
I'd rather have dinner at this Dunkelrestaurant:
http://www.noctivagus.com/english/dark_restaurant.html

Besides, in the worst-case scenario I would end up wanting to spend all my time in that damn chamber and that is no way to live. Whenever I need sensory deprivation I just take a nap.

If I want to hallucinate I simply watch The Shining right before I go to bed (I'm always too scared to stay up longer anyway). Nothing stirs the imagination to dizzying heights of sensory distortion quite like fear.

Would you make me a sandwich?

No unfortunately, I was to busy freaking out..... or trying to figure out how to freak out when I got out.

Yes, I should hit up the old recipe thread and post some more but you can find great sandwiches there!

Thanks but your laying down the whole time. For a while I thought I was adrift in the sea.

Those are my exact feelings right now. I'm still super mellow and still have alot of energy then I did before the float session.

Well you have your own personal room that has a bathroom, shower and a isolation chamber in it. And the chamber itself doesn't have any locks so you can step outside anytime. I heard it cost 900 bucks just to redo all of the salt if that happens.
