Not even a month after release - the up to 150 million USD, 8 years in development wannabe clone of Overwatch from Sony shuts down. The failure so complete that they are even refunding everyone who spent money on it. That means every single cent that went towards its development has been completely wasted with exactly 0 return value. Well, even worse actually - negative value.

But worry not, they are looking into other options on how to "reach players". So expect it back in a year or two as a free to play game with aggressive MTX or something.

This is like watching a car crash in slow motion, maybe even better. Hopefully, the industry keeps providing :P

I have never even heard of this before. I clicked on this thread thinking "What is he talking about? Didn't they retire those planes years ago?" :D

Game named after a plane that commercially flopped, commercialy flops.

Concord was a very predictable flop. Just look at all those weird ugly characters. Who is supposed to play those, let alone buy skin for them? At some point someone involved should have stood up and said: "guys this is commercial suicide."

There are failures and then there's colossal failures.

And then there's Concord.
In another time (+150 years ago) and place (Japan) blunders this staggering and shameful would have resulted in the ones directly responsible to be each presented with one of these:

That definitely did not help. Haven't seen something so actively hideous in a long time. Even R34 was afraid to touch it :D

Hopefully if they keep going full "Disney hold my Bud Light" we'll actually see some
more good(tm) games coming out from the bigger studios at some point in our lifetimes.

Or convince developers/publishers that have games still in development right now to pull around and go back to the drawing board on some questionable decisions, in regards to (re)designs of female character models in general or the removal of a certain kind of trophy card collectibles for the remake of the first installment in a series instrumental to this very site and distribution service's existence. To just name a few.
Again, it's not too late for a change in course.

Another woke game bites the dust.

In the past two weeks:

Bud Lite laid off 200+ employees and shut down two facilities.

Disney cancelled Star Wars: Acolyte.

Dustborn flopped.

Concord flopped and shut down in record time. This is history.

On the opposite end, Black Myth: Wukong becomes the most successful single-player game launch of all time on Steam: "... woke journalists cried out in anguish and were suddenly silenced."

.... feels like the tide is turning.

Although short of seppuku, it was not so long ago that a CEO of a Japanese corporation -- faced with a staggering blunder like Concord -- would have stepped down. Does this still happen? Will it happen? Guess we'll see. This is certainly a staggering blunder.

I feel similar with the new Dragon Age. It's like the Mass Effect Andromeda character designers infected the whole industry with strange, doughy faces and odd bodies.

listening to 2010 Bombcasts makes me miss those times, and going to my modern mall makes me miss the 90s and early to mid 2000s

I'm glad things are starting to get back to normal. You can only advertise to the "modern audience" so much before you realize in some cases appealing to them gets you less than 1% of the sales you would have gotten otherwise. Also I knew it was in trouble when it capped out at 697 concurrent players. It dies faster than expected, but I always expected it to die.

Literally all they needed to do was make the characters sexy, drop the pronouns, and introduce a MTX shop instead of charging $40 + MTX and it would have been great.

I expect Sony to relaunch this within two years as such, but I don't expect it to do well if they keep all the weird ugly character designs.

Most people like playing sexy characters. Who knew? Oh yeah that's right, gamers knew.

Another giant live service-style piece of worthless digital crap bites the dust.

I'm genuinely happy about that.
Star Wars: Outlaws is also estimated to come short by a couple million copies and if the first three episodes of the Power Rings' second season are of any indication for the rest the viewer retention is going to crater even harder this time around.
