IMO Sony will try to relaunch the game as free-to-play, because Sony has sunken too much time and money into the game, (i.e., 8 years of development + $200 million for the development + millions more to buy the studio just for that game,) BUT unless Sony completely re-designs the UGLY characters, drop their gender pronounces and all the woke nonsense, the relaunch will still be a big FAIL.
Concord is probably a good game, BUT consumers did NOT care because gamers refused to give it a chance... due to ONE particular reason, ONE particular way of how it was marketed and promoted. Unfortunately, Sony and the media have not gotten the message, or maybe they are still in denial.
Given the recent string of of high-profile flops, i.e., Acolyte, Concord, Dustbin, Outlaws, there is clear backlash and trend going on. All those products are quite different EXCEPT in one way. All those products have ONE common theme, and consumers have simply REFUSED to buy or even look at those products for ONE and ONE particular reason. Those failed products have ONE common denominator, and it is CLEAR, but some people just do not want to see it.
Now excuse me because I need to get back to playing the game that oozes and unabashedly CELEBRATES TOXIC MASCULINITY, (i.e., Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2.) Now that is a game I would spend pay money to pay the full price.
For da Emperor!
Review: Space Marine 2 is the ANTIDOTE to... "Modern Games" (like Concord, Dustborn and Outlaws):

I think that at this point, simply the name will be enough. Concord will go down in history as one of the biggest flops in gaming, the modern E.T. if you like. It was already way too late to the scene, and if they take a couple more years to try and squeeze something from the udder on a decade old dead cow, it's going to be a subject of extreme ridicule.
If that is the case, it just shows they have absolutely no business sense at all. Instead of counting their losses and learning their lesson, spending who knows how much more money on it behind the scenes (to implement a large scale MTX shop no doubt) is like using duct tape to try and keep the two halves of the Titanic together.

Sony has NOT yet learned its lesson. Here is the next big-budget AAA game in the pipeline of Playstation:
Fairgame$: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1Jp4K02L1I
I am not sure if you can see the user likes vs. dislikes ratio for the video. YouTube removed it to create a safe space for certain kind of people. My browser has an add-on/plug-in called "Restore YouTube Dislikes" so I can see them... let's say this one mirrors the Concord per-launch trailer in terms of the ratio.
This one is gonna FLOP and FLOP so hard.

Ughs...ly... this hurts my taste.
I guess Sony rather may have improved the PS5 Pro using this money they was blasting with games obviously not in any demand. It would be something truly creative because no one is offering something equal...

I don't think DEI is what killed Concord though. I think both sides of the aisle just genuinely felt the character models were ass.
Nobody wants to play as a woman wearing something you wouldn't even put on in the 80's, who identifies as they/them and weighs 300 pounds. The they/them was probably the least of it.

Yeah, this isn't about "woke". This is about characters failing the silhouette test, a basic character design ethos.
("Woke" may as well be a red flag word at this point, just discard any discussion involving it as junk data.)
Indistinct. Zero Personality. Too realistic. No exaggeration. Overcompensating by decoration.
Let's see, you have a walking water heater tank: No, this won't do. It looks like a water heater.
Fashion disaster, who compensates for having no identifiable personality traits with loud clothing.
Has Matt Suit, the character who most reminds me of the Activia yogurt spokeslady.
Large & in charge? Their design says literally nothing other than "overweight". That's not a character trait, that's a glandular problem at best.
Decrepit old lady who nearly reaches a design motif but doesn't commit to any bit; looks like she made her sleeping bag into a cape.
A Space Marine by any other name, Doomguy. The armor is a bit hard to take seriously with it's soft rounded edges though.
La Croix: Is only spicy because it's different from plain tap water. Audible static.
Your token underage space elf.
Jabroni who looks like they tumbled out of a Fallout cosplay contest.
It's that one guy from Cloud City in Star Wars, but as an actual robot.
Realistic Toad from Mario Bros.
Groot, as imagined in the form of a role to be played by Tim Allen before he was made a social outcast.
Leather Fetish Party.
A more boring Hank McCoy/Beast.
Ted The Generic Guy/Alibaba &/or Temu Scout from TF2.
Someone wearing the wrong frock for the job.
So not only do you have counts 16 characters, of whom maybe only two are even distinct, but I can't even imagine a game where you can fill that many roles in a PvP/PVE situation!
So I'd cull back the team, make exaggerations on the art style (this one is important) and significantly focus on a core stable of 6 or 7 characters. Sniper, Medic, Engineer, Walking Tank, Scout, Bomber, and Free Space.

I have played games where I played a genderless android, women, fantasy races...you name it...and yet I never once felt this horrible/uncomfortable disconnect that major segments of 'modern audiences' supposedly feel. As you say, I want to witness and play through a story involving interesting characters more than anything else.

I think the characters look genuinely unremarkable which never helped things.
Look at "Overwatch". Though a number of us may have played it there may have been people who just bought figures after seeing the great character designs. Though they really flubbed the roll out and came out far too late for it imo.
