My monitor on my older rig just died. Now I guess I have to shell out for a new one. *sigh*
Maybe not.

You might consider asking around from your friends, CRT monitors might be incredibly cheap or free since they are just so bulky anymore.

If you don't NEED the latest and greatest, check at pawn shops, surplus shops, or good will/salvation army. They undoubtedly have older tech laying around for $20 or less.

Not a bad suggestion, but I have no room on my table for a CRT. And besides, I already ordered a new one... :)

Well if you've already ordered one... can't help you there.

Although getting an extra monitor as a backup can't hurt...

The thought has crossed my mind many times, actually. Probably should act on it (and if I had sooner, I wouldn't have needed to order a new one). :)
That sucks. Had an issue with mine, but thankfully a good-hearted friend gave me their old one; coincidentally it's identical to the one I had.

Which one did you order?

Ended up going with This One.

you can hook your rig up to your tv

Nope. Well, I know it's possible but it's not an option for me, due to the fact that I'm usually on my computer when the rest of the family is watching television.

Once they get around to inventing that bloody Star Trek transporter system, I'll take you up on that!

Enjoy, and lets us know how it works for you. :-)

You mean to say you have only one TV set in your household? That's pretty rare.

Do you know what did your old monitor in?

That's probably the only technology from the whole series I wish would be invented. Sadly, it's also the one that won't.

Thanks. Should have it tomorrow or the next day.

No, we have 2, but one is upstairs, and my rig is downstairs. And the downstairs tv is where most of the viewing goes on (the upstairs one is actually in my wife and my bedroom. No room for the computer in there anyway.

No idea. It just went black tonight and would not switch back on. The computer is definitely on (all the lights and fans are on and I can access its files through the network) but the monitor is dead. No power at all to it, even testing with different outlets.

I have none. Well that's not quite true, I have a CRT TV in the attic. My home cinema set instead uses a projector and screen, I have no use for TV broadcasts. Then again, I live alone, it's likely the situation would be different if I had a SO and/or kids.

Was it a CRT?
