I'm just back from the premiere, and as a casual SW fan (who marathon'd the entire saga, including that god-awful "holiday special") I am relieved to say with no spoilers that the movie was a great nostalgia ride that didn't shy from establishing its own ground (and having brass space balls to do that). The main cast is just that great, and can't wait for VIII and IX.

Oh, and by the by, you should watch Star Wars Rebels too.

Han Solo is killed by his own jedi son who went dark side. That was the only shocking scene in the movie.

On topic: the movie is pretty good, but not great. Definitely overstuffed. It does manage to create compelling characters but, between the size of the cast and not allowing itself the time to breathe, some of them come off as glorified extras.

Also, not a serious problem, but it bothered me that it felt a little too reminiscent of a New Hope, and I suspect that I will feel the same about Episode VIII and Empire Strikes Back, although that is pure speculation on my part. "It's like poetry, it rhymes."

I can do away with 1 and just stick with 2 and 3 and the 2003 Clone Wars mini series.
