New features, local currency option, new payment methods, store credit, and an updated look for GOG.com!

For almost six years now we strive to bring you not only the best in DRM-Free gaming, but also to give you the greatest experience possible. To that end we're always looking for ways to improve our site and service. Today, we're rolling out a vastly updated version of our store with an improved interface, sleek new look, and lots of handy new features. Let's take a quick tour, shall we?

Video: Welcome to the fresher, better GOG.com!

First of all we are giving you more DRM-free content: movies! We are starting with 20 documentaries about internet and gaming culture but we aim high! You can find more on this in the appropriate newspost, so let's focus on the other features we're rolling out.

We wanted to give you more choice as to how you pay for things on GOG.com. Now it's up to you if you want to pay in US Dollars, or in the currency primarily used in your country, whether it's the Euro, Pounds Sterling, Australian Dollars, or Russian Roubles. That's four new currencies supported by GOG.com for your convenience. Still - the choice is yours, so if you want to stick to US dollars, just switch to it - you find this option at the bottom of each page. To make buying things at GOG.com an even more flexible process, we're introducing some new payment methods: Sofort, Giropay, Webmoney, and Yandex.

All this also means that users for whom the local currency pricing has been enabled will have an option to select one of two different prices for each game in our catalog. Of course, we stand by the simple truth that $1 does not equal 1€, so a game with a $5.99 price tag will cost 4.49 Euro, 3.69 British Pounds, 6.49 Australian Dollars, and 219 Roubles respectively. $9.99 translates to 7.49 Euro, 5.99 Pounds Sterling, 10.89 Australian Dollars, and 359 Roubles. In a perfect world we would apply the same method of pricing to all of the games we offer. However, things are a little bit more complicated, and there are some games in our catalog that follow a different region-based pricing scheme. However, we wouldn't be GOG.com if we didn't find a way to make right by the users who end up paying relatively more for such titles. Here's where the Fair Price Package comes in!

The Fair Price Package applies to all of the titles which we couldn't include in our standard pricing scheme. If you end up paying more for a game than its standard US Dollar price, we'll refund you the difference out of our own pocket. The refunded value will be added to your account in Store Credit in the currency of your purchase. That's right, no more gift codes, you'll be getting Store Credit that you can use to purchase anything on GOG.com or partially pay for an item that's more expensive. More choice, ease of use, and less limitations!

Finally, the GOG.com store has gotten itself a substantial visual revamp. We went for a fresh, mobile-friendly design that should make it even easier to find the games you want, notice the hot promos, and see what's new. The main page, catalog view, product pages, and checkout have been updated and also lay the groundwork for even more overhaul, coming within the next few months together with many of the GOG Galaxy features. We hope you like it!

PS. Unfortunately, we need to drop some titles from our classic catalog. In such cases, we always do our best to give you an advance warning and a last chance to purchase such games - preferably with a considerable discount. Check this news post to find out which titles are being removed from our catalog, when will it happen, and what parting discounts for them do we currently offer.

The main page doesn't show which games you own and which you do not. I don't really give a crap about the design, but this was a practical feature! Please do bring it back!
Buh? Movies? A new look? I hope it works out for you guys, but i think this movies stuff is kind of silly, and pointless for GOG..com. Also I dont really like the new look, but if you still keep bringing Good Old Games, I'll have no problems, but personally Im a bit worried you guys are letting success goto your heads with all these extravagant and pointless things your doing.

First things first, I hate when they change a site/OS/program interface layout, so I'm hating the new look of GOG. But that's just my problem, I'm a kind of an ugly reactionary when it comes to this sort of things - to the point that, when I can, I stick to the command line environment. I just feel like people coming to my kitchen and rearranging the location of all the tools, spices and ingedients I have there. I hate it. But I will get used to it. And then you'll change it again. DAMN SITES AND INTERFACE DESIGNERS! I HATE CHANGES!

But, besides that, your new pricing policy is --just-- AWESOME. I was one of the many complaining when you announced "fair local pricing". You responded in a way that only a company like GOG could pull off: give us customers freedom of choice. You actually listened to us. I think that by doing this you are being both fair AND smart. And, paying for the difference when you are forced to charge more to users using a different currency! That's treating your customers wonderfully.

I'm kind of broke right now, but if I can scoop up some e-cash, I'll surely do my best to buy as much as I can.

YOU ARE GREAT, WAY TO GO!

EDIT: Had a swift look at the other comments. Yes, the new desing is spartan and unexciting, I still think YOU ARE GREAT, but the new desing really lets me down. The older design was good, so why ditch it? It's mobile friendly? Why not make two versions, like at Wikipedia? I liked the old site *much, much* more. Still, the new flexible pricing mechanism is something I find extremely praiseworthy.

Sorry guys but the old site was way better now i need to figure again where is what:) At least gave us options to change it in settings to prev site.
I really liked the old green gog.com style.
This new one is so... generic high-tech...
Three things I would like to see.

Please put my name back by the account button so it's easier to see when I'm logged in. It's nice to see at a glance if I'm still logged in. It's also probably important for those who have to share computers.

Next. I don't know what those 5 games under the What's New and Latest Deals windows are. They don't match the Bestsellers or New & Coming lists. Get rid of them so you can move up the Bestsellers and Headlines. As a long time user, it's important for me to be able to see the latest news, bestsellers or new games at a glance. Don't make me scroll.

Lastly, either slow down the rate What's New and Latest Deals windows change views or combine them back the way they used to be. I prefer having them combined. Having them separate and changing quickly is too much motion which I find very distracting and grating. If they stay as they are, I'll probably just have to AdBlock them.

Thanks for listening.

Yeah, the title is light gray instead of dark gray.

Right. Well okay, it does, but it's really unnoticeable. Please do change the colors for this.
It's no big deal actually, but aesthetically the old aspect was far more stilish and better organized. It looks like a poor version of Steam, now. If the reason of the change was to gain new customers, it won't work and will only piss off people that liked the classic aspect. You should at least give people a switch to select their favourite aspect.
This is a classic case of changing things just for the sake of changing, and to no real gain.
About the regional pricing, i simply won't buy anything that has a different price in Europe, so i don't care about it.

Okay, I've given the new site a decent chance over the past couple of days and it is actually annoying me more and more. The huge banner at the top of all the pages is very distracting when scrolling through forum posts. Also, the front page is just a headache of images and truncated text with no real focus for the eye. The poorly thought out account button (with no indication of login status) is just a ridiculous oversight.

Sorry GOG, but I really think this has been a failed endeavour.

Dream_Merchant: Not working properly on my blackberry Q5.
:snip:
So basically, I can't buy anything :)
Haha, good one, gog. Your "more mobile friendly" design can't be used properly on a mobile device... lol.
I don't mind that you put more pictures and huge buttons on the website. But I do mind the need to scroll down to see text and actual information. And I also miss the previous colorful and warm design of GOG.com, less generic.

Kank: To me the site just looks generic. All the GOG style is gone as if they fired their talented artists.
Well they *are* looking for the following :

Sr Web Developer,
UI / UX DesignerLead UI / UX Designer
Lead Software Engineer
Senior Software Engineer - Desktop
Senior Software Engineer - Online
Junior Software Engineer

;)
I honestly do not mind the new layout. My only issue is with regards to reviews: there are no dates listed for the reviews and from what I can tell, there is no way to organize reviews by most helpful or most recent. I do acknowledge that this could be an issue with my specific browser, but does anyone else notice this?
I really think there should be a means of adding an item to your wishlist from the search results other than opening the item and adding it or adding it to your cart then moving it to your wishlist. It would be a very useful feature.

I also think there should be an indication that a given item is on your wishlist, another useful feature.

Perhaps there could be a little heart-shaped checkbox near the price, and it could be filled if an item is on the wishlist, empty if not, and clicking on it could add or remove an item.
Hmmm... :-/
