New features, local currency option, new payment methods, store credit, and an updated look for GOG.com!

For almost six years now we strive to bring you not only the best in DRM-Free gaming, but also to give you the greatest experience possible. To that end we're always looking for ways to improve our site and service. Today, we're rolling out a vastly updated version of our store with an improved interface, sleek new look, and lots of handy new features. Let's take a quick tour, shall we?

Video: Welcome to the fresher, better GOG.com!

First of all we are giving you more DRM-free content: movies! We are starting with 20 documentaries about internet and gaming culture but we aim high! You can find more on this in the appropriate newspost, so let's focus on the other features we're rolling out.

We wanted to give you more choice as to how you pay for things on GOG.com. Now it's up to you if you want to pay in US Dollars, or in the currency primarily used in your country, whether it's the Euro, Pounds Sterling, Australian Dollars, or Russian Roubles. That's four new currencies supported by GOG.com for your convenience. Still - the choice is yours, so if you want to stick to US dollars, just switch to it - you find this option at the bottom of each page. To make buying things at GOG.com an even more flexible process, we're introducing some new payment methods: Sofort, Giropay, Webmoney, and Yandex.

All this also means that users for whom the local currency pricing has been enabled will have an option to select one of two different prices for each game in our catalog. Of course, we stand by the simple truth that $1 does not equal 1€, so a game with a $5.99 price tag will cost 4.49 Euro, 3.69 British Pounds, 6.49 Australian Dollars, and 219 Roubles respectively. $9.99 translates to 7.49 Euro, 5.99 Pounds Sterling, 10.89 Australian Dollars, and 359 Roubles. In a perfect world we would apply the same method of pricing to all of the games we offer. However, things are a little bit more complicated, and there are some games in our catalog that follow a different region-based pricing scheme. However, we wouldn't be GOG.com if we didn't find a way to make right by the users who end up paying relatively more for such titles. Here's where the Fair Price Package comes in!

The Fair Price Package applies to all of the titles which we couldn't include in our standard pricing scheme. If you end up paying more for a game than its standard US Dollar price, we'll refund you the difference out of our own pocket. The refunded value will be added to your account in Store Credit in the currency of your purchase. That's right, no more gift codes, you'll be getting Store Credit that you can use to purchase anything on GOG.com or partially pay for an item that's more expensive. More choice, ease of use, and less limitations!

Finally, the GOG.com store has gotten itself a substantial visual revamp. We went for a fresh, mobile-friendly design that should make it even easier to find the games you want, notice the hot promos, and see what's new. The main page, catalog view, product pages, and checkout have been updated and also lay the groundwork for even more overhaul, coming within the next few months together with many of the GOG Galaxy features. We hope you like it!

PS. Unfortunately, we need to drop some titles from our classic catalog. In such cases, we always do our best to give you an advance warning and a last chance to purchase such games - preferably with a considerable discount. Check this news post to find out which titles are being removed from our catalog, when will it happen, and what parting discounts for them do we currently offer.

Freejack82: Seriously, this new design looks way to cold and boring. As if half of the stylesheets and images are not loading. Its not so much of a design, but rather the absent of any design. To me it looks as interesting and distinctive as hospital room...

Sorry guys!
I've been recently hospitalised, and I assure you that that hospital room had more colour and character than GOG's current site design. ;-P

moonshineshadow: Strange thing is, when I go to the main page the notifications show correctly. As soon as I go to the forums I can't see what the notification is for anymore.
Alas, I can confirm this on Pale Moon - it appears that it's working properly exclusively on the front page and nowhere else.

And to add to my initial post in this thread - my main issue with the new design is that it causes extreme strain on the eyes; these fifty shades of bright grey, along with the terrible and blurry font, made my eyes ache and itch after being on here for a few hours.
Not fun at all. :(
Ok, I spent a bit of time checking stuff out and trying to inform myself on what the fuck is going on here. But it seems really confusing to me.

For starters, con somebody tell me one good thing (just one, people) that came out of implementing this whole regional pricing thingy? And if the answer is Age of Wonders III, consider yourselves punched in the eye. It's been months since the original announcement, and to my knowledge there's been 0 positive consquences of ditching the flat pricing policy. The choice of currency, while appreciated, has nothing to do with the regional pricing itself.

Also, "mobile-friendly design".... why does a PC gaming site need to change to be mobile-friendly? Why not have a mobile friendly version of the site and keep (or improve) the PC friendly version? And I'll admit I don't know much about mobiles, but I thought current smartphones handled more color than shades of gray?

As for the movies, I was excited when I first read about it. Then I checked, all documentaries that probably couldn't even afford DRM in the first place! ...Well, that's not fair on my part, but seriously, I as a plot oriented person was really disappointed. Is it even correct to call a documentary a 'movie'? And I don't even like movies in general, but I thought GOG was breaking new ice and got all guns-ho about it. Doesn't seem to be the case.
Hang on, it seems to no longer be emptying out my cart whenever I switch pages, but it's still a pain. And yes, I too am getting a serious headache from the color scheme.

I hate to bitch but I'm starting to see stars here.

Change to the black background at least in forums I did the same since I had the mother of all headaches from this website yesterday and its grayness :)

Then try switching to the gray one. Then, when switch back while doing your best not to look at the screen, you'll feel a lot better. It works, just did so myself and the relief of blackness was impressive.
I look on GOG every few days/once a week to see if anything new is out or anything that looks cool is on special. But now it just looks weird. The new/coming doesn't even seem to be in order of any kind. Where it used to be the newest ontop.. now it appears to be flat out random.

I didn't care how "simple" it looked before hand. I could search up everything I wanted to. If anything it was better on my eyes, where now there is so much on the front page, it's overkill. I suppose I will get used to it.

I'm also confused how updating all this means some games had to go.

What color? ^^
There are only shades of grey.
Honestly I liked the old colors better, the new ones are just so bland and grey. The green and yellow logo was a bit of a trademark to me :(

This was maybe a bug but checkout page feels REALLY unprofessional. The text and images were crammed as left as possible (literally using the last pixels on the screen) and the checkout options looked like they were made by someone just starting to learn HTML.
I am extremely disappointed with the new look, my heart sank when I saw it. Please change it back. Game trailers and screenshots show up as blank grey boxes now. There is no on sale tab and I don't want to see a big giant DRM Free Movie announcement. The tiled look of everything is terrible on the eyes. Grey and industrial looking. I have over 350 games I've purchased here and am now worried everything is going to change. I don't understand why 35 games will no longer be available. This is a terrible change. Such a letdown..
WAIT WAIT WAIT!
Accentuate the positive!

I just bought some stuff and while minor, I have to say the credit card screen IS an improvement. The colors are still a bitch but it seems to be much more user friendly, and the info boxes are bigger, AND it offers the name of the month next to the number for the stupid people like myself who can't equate '3' with 'March'.

Got that GOG!? I bitch, but I love, and the credit card screen is very nice. :D
Aside from minor bugs such as not being able to click on anything from the main page including Sales, I have to side with the people who say the new design looks bland and depressing. An idea could be to allow several color schemes for the GoG site. But yes, please put some color on the site and your logo!

Yeah you are right did not really notice it before but the black colour on gog is really just a darker shade of grey. Some gog employ saw to much of Sin City perhaps ?

*cough* this *cough*
Y-you're not kidding, then?
I honestly thought this was some sort of elaborate, very late April Fool's joke. ...or is it really and I'm not getting it?
(For now I am more confused than opposed - "Staring at the screen going 'What? No.' a lot" confused. Though I dislike change in general.)
