New features, local currency option, new payment methods, store credit, and an updated look for GOG.com!

For almost six years now we strive to bring you not only the best in DRM-Free gaming, but also to give you the greatest experience possible. To that end we're always looking for ways to improve our site and service. Today, we're rolling out a vastly updated version of our store with an improved interface, sleek new look, and lots of handy new features. Let's take a quick tour, shall we?

Video: Welcome to the fresher, better GOG.com!

First of all we are giving you more DRM-free content: movies! We are starting with 20 documentaries about internet and gaming culture but we aim high! You can find more on this in the appropriate newspost, so let's focus on the other features we're rolling out.

We wanted to give you more choice as to how you pay for things on GOG.com. Now it's up to you if you want to pay in US Dollars, or in the currency primarily used in your country, whether it's the Euro, Pounds Sterling, Australian Dollars, or Russian Roubles. That's four new currencies supported by GOG.com for your convenience. Still - the choice is yours, so if you want to stick to US dollars, just switch to it - you find this option at the bottom of each page. To make buying things at GOG.com an even more flexible process, we're introducing some new payment methods: Sofort, Giropay, Webmoney, and Yandex.

All this also means that users for whom the local currency pricing has been enabled will have an option to select one of two different prices for each game in our catalog. Of course, we stand by the simple truth that $1 does not equal 1€, so a game with a $5.99 price tag will cost 4.49 Euro, 3.69 British Pounds, 6.49 Australian Dollars, and 219 Roubles respectively. $9.99 translates to 7.49 Euro, 5.99 Pounds Sterling, 10.89 Australian Dollars, and 359 Roubles. In a perfect world we would apply the same method of pricing to all of the games we offer. However, things are a little bit more complicated, and there are some games in our catalog that follow a different region-based pricing scheme. However, we wouldn't be GOG.com if we didn't find a way to make right by the users who end up paying relatively more for such titles. Here's where the Fair Price Package comes in!

The Fair Price Package applies to all of the titles which we couldn't include in our standard pricing scheme. If you end up paying more for a game than its standard US Dollar price, we'll refund you the difference out of our own pocket. The refunded value will be added to your account in Store Credit in the currency of your purchase. That's right, no more gift codes, you'll be getting Store Credit that you can use to purchase anything on GOG.com or partially pay for an item that's more expensive. More choice, ease of use, and less limitations!

Finally, the GOG.com store has gotten itself a substantial visual revamp. We went for a fresh, mobile-friendly design that should make it even easier to find the games you want, notice the hot promos, and see what's new. The main page, catalog view, product pages, and checkout have been updated and also lay the groundwork for even more overhaul, coming within the next few months together with many of the GOG Galaxy features. We hope you like it!

PS. Unfortunately, we need to drop some titles from our classic catalog. In such cases, we always do our best to give you an advance warning and a last chance to purchase such games - preferably with a considerable discount. Check this news post to find out which titles are being removed from our catalog, when will it happen, and what parting discounts for them do we currently offer.

^ But hey, at least it's totally Apple'd now!

Those buttons can be easily pressed with large greasy fingers on an iPad or something. Which is.. of course crucial on a PC GAMING site :D

KittyKay: I really like the fact that they have a place for devs/pubs to submit their games (or movies) to GOG. i don't know if that was on the old layout before but I don't remember seeing it.
I think that form was actually hidden away under the support area before (could be wrong)..

Hey at least for now if you select the light grey forum theme instead of the dark grey it matches the fugly grey bar at the top :P

Well, just take a looky at that, it sure does. But argh, it almost literally hurts my eyes. Dark schemes are always more soothing. Can we get a dark theme to the overall website, gog?
Hi.

For the better search and recognition of new games - please make the platform / system more visible with an icon and better text or layout.

What did you do!? You shit all over the polar bears!!

Seriously though, I leave for a few weeks of summer vacation and THIS is what happens. Movies really? Does anyone really still pay the price of a monthly NETFLIX subscription for a single flick.

Aren't you supposed to cater to good ol' fashioned PC gamers? Stop pandering to the casual tablet and mobile crowd. This is starting to look the way of Skyrim pandering to the console gamers. Gah.

And the grey? Life is depressing enough without the site that used to give me happiness turning into some emo colourless teenager. I'm so sad right now...

Fire the guy who made everything grey. And then add some color. I'll be in the corner crying.

Plus darker theme helps save on mobile battery power - just saying :D
First hour I didn't like the changes. Too many changes simultaneously and I always thought the old site looked awesome.

The new look has a lot of gray. I like the color in your logo but now the top bar has the logo in gray. I would change that.

That said, in most ways, the new theme quickly grew on me. About an hour later, I was mostly fine with it. I am appreciative of the constant efforts on improvement.

What you guys do it's awesome and thank you for bringing in movies to the site.

Probably the best rant I read today.
10/10, would shit polar bears again.

u2jedi: What audio format is embedded in the file?
WAV or FLAC?

avatar
hash.junker: Thanks, GOG; I love the DRM-free movies and I also really enjoy the re-design.

u2jedi:
Not sure if anyone has gotten back to you - I haven't read all the followups.
But I had a look at one 576p ep of Once Upon An Atari and it showed the audio stream as:
ACC-MP4a

I haven't had a chance to look at the others, eps or docos, as I have been streaming the vids from my account via the browser as I am 'studying' at uni. Overall, I am quite happy with GOG's current implementation. I just wish the pricing was better here in Aus.
i beg the modders of gog forum to create a plugin for the chrome browser that either a)restore the joyful gog logo instead of this sad pathetic "I SOLD OUT" grey one or b) a plugin that removes the top ugly grey window 8 suckage style menu.

call the plugin as good old theme plugin

Recommendations for the game search improvement.

Some standard search stuff still missing like:

search games by:

- highest price
- lovest price
- highest discount, etc.

The website is a lot more responsive now. Had to switch to black theme now on forums since it was unberable to watch otherweise.

Also the search by date added does not work properly since it throws the games all around without looking at the date of addition and just shows them randomly.

The bottom links for games and movies don't work properly. If I press on top rated movies and the wan't to go from top rated movies to top rated games it does not work at all it just loads the top movies page again.

The old webpage looked a lot similar to this one but the tiles here are extremely oversized and there is just to much gray and empty space around and everything is just to bright. Probably ok on mobiles but why didn't you do a separate webstore for mobiles like every other digital store did. Just give me an option to colour the background darker and I'll be fine with everything else. And also make the menu bar buttons smaller and rounder this is just like saying I wan't to shoot you if you don't buy all my games.

Why is on the classic forum colour the top of the forum darker gray and when you scroll down everything is basically very lite gray almoust white.

First: The new look is a bit irretating at the moment, especially that the news are not on the right side anymore, but let's see how it feels after a few days when getting used to the new design. In general I think it is a good thing to freshen things a bit up with a new design. Only thing I am sad about is that my avatar is not shown anymore next to the button "Account", I liked that before, now it feels more unpersonal.

I don't care for the movies but if you feel it is good strategy to add them I am fine with that, someone will probably be happy about it.

And you could put an option for the currency to the account settings since the actual one at the bottom of the website is not very prominent to notice. I started to get seriously pissed of at all the euro prices and it took me quite some time to see this button^^

[edit] and could we get back some color like for the logo please? Too much gray here now^^

This!

You did NOT become famous because you sold movies. Your customers are NOT from tablet/mobile crowd. Your site is NOT about cold, hard business or about "modern" design.

You became famous by selling good old games. Your customers are from PC crowd. Since it's about games there should be color involved in your design.

Some people can see this as alienating people that made you successful and I have to agree.

Nice to see you go forward, new site has much improvements that I like, but there are also some points I like to point out that can be better or i like to see come back.

- Color your logo! It's boring now
- Show better that I own a game. This was wonderful when looking for that buy I missed, but now I can't see it clearly anymore. Games you own are a bit dulled out, but I only noticed after looking at the html\css and then I saw that there is some slight variation. But it also looks like a clicked link. When I looked at the RPG genre list, I could immediately see what I didn't own. Now... I really can't see. This is the worst and needs to change. Otherwise I'll ask the guy from Steam Enhanced to build a GOG Enhanced :P Just show a clear 'owned' sign please.
- Changing color scheme's. Unify it, sometimes it's dark, sometimes it's light. Not so friendly for the eyes.
- Imlement continuous scrolling! Or an option to show all games. Mobile friendly is fine with me, but also don't forget the desktop users.
- Implement a list with when I purchased stuff. Just a 'nice to have' but I would really like it.
- I miss my picture in the top bar... bring me back!

thank you!

All the many technical issues aside:
Is it supposed to look like that on an HD screen?
(See pic below)

So many big pictures and fonts and so few information. oO
