New features, local currency option, new payment methods, store credit, and an updated look for GOG.com!

For almost six years now we strive to bring you not only the best in DRM-Free gaming, but also to give you the greatest experience possible. To that end we're always looking for ways to improve our site and service. Today, we're rolling out a vastly updated version of our store with an improved interface, sleek new look, and lots of handy new features. Let's take a quick tour, shall we?

Video: Welcome to the fresher, better GOG.com!

First of all we are giving you more DRM-free content: movies! We are starting with 20 documentaries about internet and gaming culture but we aim high! You can find more on this in the appropriate newspost, so let's focus on the other features we're rolling out.

We wanted to give you more choice as to how you pay for things on GOG.com. Now it's up to you if you want to pay in US Dollars, or in the currency primarily used in your country, whether it's the Euro, Pounds Sterling, Australian Dollars, or Russian Roubles. That's four new currencies supported by GOG.com for your convenience. Still - the choice is yours, so if you want to stick to US dollars, just switch to it - you find this option at the bottom of each page. To make buying things at GOG.com an even more flexible process, we're introducing some new payment methods: Sofort, Giropay, Webmoney, and Yandex.

All this also means that users for whom the local currency pricing has been enabled will have an option to select one of two different prices for each game in our catalog. Of course, we stand by the simple truth that $1 does not equal 1€, so a game with a $5.99 price tag will cost 4.49 Euro, 3.69 British Pounds, 6.49 Australian Dollars, and 219 Roubles respectively. $9.99 translates to 7.49 Euro, 5.99 Pounds Sterling, 10.89 Australian Dollars, and 359 Roubles. In a perfect world we would apply the same method of pricing to all of the games we offer. However, things are a little bit more complicated, and there are some games in our catalog that follow a different region-based pricing scheme. However, we wouldn't be GOG.com if we didn't find a way to make right by the users who end up paying relatively more for such titles. Here's where the Fair Price Package comes in!

The Fair Price Package applies to all of the titles which we couldn't include in our standard pricing scheme. If you end up paying more for a game than its standard US Dollar price, we'll refund you the difference out of our own pocket. The refunded value will be added to your account in Store Credit in the currency of your purchase. That's right, no more gift codes, you'll be getting Store Credit that you can use to purchase anything on GOG.com or partially pay for an item that's more expensive. More choice, ease of use, and less limitations!

Finally, the GOG.com store has gotten itself a substantial visual revamp. We went for a fresh, mobile-friendly design that should make it even easier to find the games you want, notice the hot promos, and see what's new. The main page, catalog view, product pages, and checkout have been updated and also lay the groundwork for even more overhaul, coming within the next few months together with many of the GOG Galaxy features. We hope you like it!

PS. Unfortunately, we need to drop some titles from our classic catalog. In such cases, we always do our best to give you an advance warning and a last chance to purchase such games - preferably with a considerable discount. Check this news post to find out which titles are being removed from our catalog, when will it happen, and what parting discounts for them do we currently offer.

Oh dear... What the hell is this?! Now even Apple Store has more colors that GOG website!!!

What is this trend in the industry that seem to favor minimalist, colorless and sterile design? Reminds me of those expensive houses that nobody would want to live in...

Ask yourself, what is more friendly?

As I said before, new image is great. But screens gallery on games' pages should look like it was before, now I can't scroll between zoomed screens. Icons for goodies look too faint and are too similiar too each other.

What's more - an icon of my avatar and login on the top of the page would be nice addition ;)
Another thing that isn't yet working are the game-specific forums. I just picked up a bunch of the expiring titles and none of the forums unlocked for me. (They're still manually accessible, of course.)

A very small bug, and I'm sure it will get fixed.
Not working properly on my blackberry Q5.

The homepage is fine but if I try checking out the interface acts funnt.
Hard to explain but basically it doesn't show the payment screen and instead of showing the shopping cart icon I get {{getCartCount()}} and instead of the currency selector I get {{CurrencyToShow()}}. Also tapping anything including the tab icon on the top right does nothing.
So basically, I can't buy anything :)

pbmacros: I dislike the new layout a bit. Although some minor improvements are welcome. The keyboard shortcuts for several pages are great.

What disturbs me:
- I cannot see that I own a game on its page, it gets visible only if I proceed trough checkout till selecting my method of payment.
If you own the game the game title text is a grey, black if you do not own it.
Should i prepare a flood of indie releases and only one old game / month ?
Oh Hey, maybe I'm missing it but where is the 'On Sale' button/link to view the games that are on sale... seems to be missing, or I'm missing it or.. they don't want people to know about it....
Some auto-editor of the site edited out my top post. So instead of cart and currency I get some sort of calling functions like curly bracket curly bracket CurrencyToShow open bracket close bracket close curly bracket close curly bracket. Same for the cart
Like the new layout, but it need some improvements:

- If we own a game you must make the price area grey, otherwise it's quite difficult to know if we already bought the game or not.
- The Account Part need to match the new layout. Uper bar appart it's the same look than before. It need some new look.
- Bring back the game genre bestsellers. I think it helped some games.

I think that's all for the layout.

Don't care about the movies but it's a new step. Next one could be DRM Free ebook or DRM Free game soundtrack.

The Disapearance of the games it's quite sad, but it's the editor/developers problem. I'll stick to the DRM Free view.

Speaking of game-specific forums, am I right in thinking movie-specific forums seem not to exist?
I... don´t like it.
Where is the old search engine for games (the foruns one continues to be terrible btw)?
Why so large top bar? Site looks a post-apoc digital store, tinted in grey... where´s the green color?
Old gamecards much more appealing, with proper attention to show bonus and free content... looks like GOG is getting away your customers, putting itself in a "cold" relationship...
Mobile friendly? For what? Are you going to sell android games? (if yes, I´m ok with it, if not, what were you thinking about?)
DRM-free movies is a nice mov(i)e! (the only novelty that I liked so far)
Why not submit the possible changes to community opinions? why just drop what you think is best and try to fix it later? Feedback from GOGers lost appeal, due to last move made by you? (regional pricing)

I´m not getting what are you trying GOG. I just hope it´s for the best for us.

"Go home, you´re drunk!"
PS.: You´re really too drunk, left poor Theodore alone holding all this bloated greyish site.
Hope GOG starts selling mobile games very soon otherwise I see no point in punishing PC/Mac gamers with this mobile design. :(

At least give us back old green/yellow logo.
Wishlisting for films is slightly odd. They show up on the personal wishlist with 'Works on: [Windows logo]', as though they were Win-only in exactly the way DRM-free films aren't.
high rated
Fresher GOG.com? Yes, in a way... fresh like a chilly freezer. Not like a place I want to frequent.
What I miss are features that are useful to us, your customers. Things like a better way to organize my game library for instance. Don't become yet another mobile UI clone when it comes to design. It looks incredibly dull as it is right now.
I do like the bigger edit screen for forum post though. It gives me a better overview over what I'm typing :-)

Perfect picture comparison! Cold and industrial (ooh so futuristic!) design, or comforting and fun. I'll take the latter any day!
