New features, local currency option, new payment methods, store credit, and an updated look for GOG.com!

For almost six years now we strive to bring you not only the best in DRM-Free gaming, but also to give you the greatest experience possible. To that end we're always looking for ways to improve our site and service. Today, we're rolling out a vastly updated version of our store with an improved interface, sleek new look, and lots of handy new features. Let's take a quick tour, shall we?

Video: Welcome to the fresher, better GOG.com!

First of all we are giving you more DRM-free content: movies! We are starting with 20 documentaries about internet and gaming culture but we aim high! You can find more on this in the appropriate newspost, so let's focus on the other features we're rolling out.

We wanted to give you more choice as to how you pay for things on GOG.com. Now it's up to you if you want to pay in US Dollars, or in the currency primarily used in your country, whether it's the Euro, Pounds Sterling, Australian Dollars, or Russian Roubles. That's four new currencies supported by GOG.com for your convenience. Still - the choice is yours, so if you want to stick to US dollars, just switch to it - you find this option at the bottom of each page. To make buying things at GOG.com an even more flexible process, we're introducing some new payment methods: Sofort, Giropay, Webmoney, and Yandex.

All this also means that users for whom the local currency pricing has been enabled will have an option to select one of two different prices for each game in our catalog. Of course, we stand by the simple truth that $1 does not equal 1€, so a game with a $5.99 price tag will cost 4.49 Euro, 3.69 British Pounds, 6.49 Australian Dollars, and 219 Roubles respectively. $9.99 translates to 7.49 Euro, 5.99 Pounds Sterling, 10.89 Australian Dollars, and 359 Roubles. In a perfect world we would apply the same method of pricing to all of the games we offer. However, things are a little bit more complicated, and there are some games in our catalog that follow a different region-based pricing scheme. However, we wouldn't be GOG.com if we didn't find a way to make right by the users who end up paying relatively more for such titles. Here's where the Fair Price Package comes in!

The Fair Price Package applies to all of the titles which we couldn't include in our standard pricing scheme. If you end up paying more for a game than its standard US Dollar price, we'll refund you the difference out of our own pocket. The refunded value will be added to your account in Store Credit in the currency of your purchase. That's right, no more gift codes, you'll be getting Store Credit that you can use to purchase anything on GOG.com or partially pay for an item that's more expensive. More choice, ease of use, and less limitations!

Finally, the GOG.com store has gotten itself a substantial visual revamp. We went for a fresh, mobile-friendly design that should make it even easier to find the games you want, notice the hot promos, and see what's new. The main page, catalog view, product pages, and checkout have been updated and also lay the groundwork for even more overhaul, coming within the next few months together with many of the GOG Galaxy features. We hope you like it!

PS. Unfortunately, we need to drop some titles from our classic catalog. In such cases, we always do our best to give you an advance warning and a last chance to purchase such games - preferably with a considerable discount. Check this news post to find out which titles are being removed from our catalog, when will it happen, and what parting discounts for them do we currently offer.

The design is not too bad. Too much gray maybe. And I miss full gift history Also I'm not so interested in the Movies.

Hmm, does buying a game no longer automatically add the game's forum to your profile? I purchased MIND: Path to Thalamus, but the associated game forum did not get added to my list. Before the site change it did.

I'm not too bothered if this is the case, as usually I would remove the subforum anyway (I only track the subforums for certain titles). Just curious if this is a new aspect of the site now.
Hey guys,

I like the new look but can you add a lightbox or something for the images. It's super annoying clicking on a screenshot to see it larger and it opens the image in a new tab. It's very unpractical.

peace.
I might not be a rocket scientist, but uglier + slower + reduced readability does not seem to equal with "better".

Huge downgrade from the old design (which was really good, fast and usable, by the way).

Also, removing old titles from the catalog? Will the site be renamed to "A Couple of Good Old Games" ?
Another major issue. With newly released games, supported platforms are not specified in the announcement and no icons are shown in the release image on the front page. One has to actually open the game card to figure out which OSes the game is released on. That's pretty annoying. Before you used to indicate supported OS right on the front page.

Example: https://www.gog.com/news/release_mind_path_of_thalamus (nothing is said about supported OS in the detailed announcement and not on the front page short announcement either).

Take for example Humble Store. They show OS icons when you hover over game images on the front page which shows new releases.

I might be in the minority here but I liked the previous design more. It was easier to navigate in and better to look at. Now everything just blends in a grey color.

Edit: On second look, it appears I'm in the majority here.

I don't like the new design...

I liked the thumbnails (especially that you could scroll with arrow keys), i liked to see my avatar at any time.

I'm specially confused with the games/movies mixed all together. It's not clear enough (for me) and if i'm not sure of what i'm buying, it seems like a scam.

So... i guess i won't buy anything here until some fixes. That's a shame cause i love DRM free mentality.

It was already reported by others that its one more broken thing. Sadly can't recall by whom or in what thread.

Thanks for the confirmation. Hopefully it's made it to the "bugs wiki" page.

As long as people are aware of it, that's good.

Now I'm having trouble with the New Post window. :/

HI all,
I've been with GOG since the very beginning, since it was a digital toddler (in its beta phase, I think. Got the link to a new service from some gaming website).
Anyway, I have bought a lot of games here, so many, that I don't even want to think how much money I have blown here. I admit I haven't played all of them yet, some of them I don't even recall owning (that's why I keep a logbook of all the games I own - digital and physical versions), but the thing is... even I if didn't want to buy anything, I used to come here just to read stuff, game descriptions and user reviews (more often than not they stopped me righteously from buying a game I might not like), browse through the catalogue, watch screenshots etc...
Today I have clicked the tab in my browser with the friendly, well-known green-yellow logo of GoG, only to find myself in front of...grey piece of faecal matter, I hate to admit...

Seriously, GoG owners/designers - this new site is just plain FUGLY. Also navigating through it is a tiring exercise. I know, I know - one might say "You'll get use to it" and I probably will, only that... I kinda don't want to... I seriously don't like the new website design and I'm still wondering what forced so significant changes to be implemented here. The old version of GoG.com worked perfectly fine, the UI was clear and intuitive, navigation - quick and easy.

What is more, this is my first post here on GoG, first post EVER, I'm not shitting you. And I really hate that it had to be one bitching about the site, rather than praising it.

So, what I would like to ask of you users, who share my feelings about the new version of GoG website, please vote for bringing its old looks back. I wanted to repost a link from some other forum user, which I regret not being able to mention now. Unfortunately, my post wouldn't have gone through If I had included the link in it, so I'll just explain, that in order to do so, you have to go to the Community>Community wishlist>Requested features and find the thread " Bring back the old gog.com website for desktop users". I know this voting thing is a long shot but maybe it's worth someting. Thanks for taking your time to do that.

GoG, you used to be so cool and nice website to use and look through, with the new looks of the website - it's all gone to me.

I like the new look - bigger pictures (we like our eye candy after all !:) ), modern look.

I do not like the "not green and yellow" GOG logo.

*brandishes torch and Pitchfork*:)

Change ? how dare you ! :D

xxxIndyxxx: hmm does the new site work slower for you guys too?
avatar
mrkgnao: I feel it too.

Doesn't come as a surprise. The new "look" HTML is big compared to the old one, so every page load for everybody takes longer. Couple this with the larger images and it all adds up.
It's painfully slower on my smartphone too. I thought the whole point of this redesign was to improve support on mobile. I won't even access GOG on my smartphone anymore.

I've been here as long as you, and I hate the new site also. And it's not just because it's different, it really is ugly, slower and harder to use.

BTW, welcome to the forums. :)

IMHO, the "fresher, better" update is because the corporate overlords are intoxicated by the number of mobile users they might gain access to by making the site more mobile friendly. I'm sure the spreadsheet minions have done several "What if" analyses that justify alienating some in order to greatly increase site traffic. Definitely a change in focus for the site me thinks.

I don't think anything will change the direction that GOG has taken. I also find the changes less than helpful but I will give it a few months to see how things go... =)

I for one don't mind the site redesign (insomnia sale from my phone will be so much easier). The currency bit sort of sucks, but when you're trying to compete with steam you have to make your store attractive to publishers.
