IronArcturus: So how does the game work in just singleplayer mode? Does it have some kind of Skirmish or Deathmatch mode?
avatar
AlienMind: Well, if you wanna DM you'd be better off playing http://www.unrealtournament.com/ . Apart from that, it's like playing Trine solo, which means... it's not so cool, obviously.
I already have the UT series and it's a lot of fun. But I have to disagree with you on Trine singleplayer mode, I thought it was really fun in the first two games. I haven't tried the third one because of all the bad reviews. I've read that it was the addition of the forward/backward movement that seemed to ruin the game. Have you tried it before?

skeletonbow: I've previously commented about the price that I am shown for some games fluctuating from one page load to the next from the US price shown to Americans to the US price shown to Canadians. GOG support has suggested it is because my IP address at my ISP might be misidentified in the Maxmind geoip database (but it isn't, it is correctly identifying me as being in Canada), but the funny thing is when I get the wrong price and immediately hit reload - my IP address doesn't change each time. In fact my IP address never changes, it's been the same for a couple yearsish.

Well, I finally figured out what the problem is in case anyone else is having the problem. The problem is GOG's website code is broken. I currently have the GOG homepage showing in Firefox and it shows The Witcher 3 Hearts of Stone expansion on the screen twice, but it is showing the American price of $8.99 on one of the instances, and the Canadian price of $7.19 on the other one. The problem is entirely on GOG's website and not on the end user's computer, ISP, IP address, geoiplookup problems etc.

Just thought I'd pass that along for anyone else having the problem. Unfortunately it doesn't appear to be a problem in client side Javascript or anything end user visible, but rather it is likely on their backend server code that is invisible to the end user so it does not appear to be diagnosable from outside of GOG.

I've attached 2 screen crops below which are both taken from a single load of the GOG homepage. The Witcher 3 expansion appears twice on the page, with two different prices as mentioned above. Likewise The Witcher 3 base game also shows up with two completely different prices however since I own the game the price is hidden by default and shows "owned", so I had to hover the mouse over it and take a screenshot for each instance it appears on the page in order for the prices to show.

This isn't just a bug in this promo however, these prices change for me all the time at random and it has nothing to do with my IP address changing as it never changes.

I should also note that while I normally look for and notice this with The Witcher 3 and its expansion, it also happens with other titles which appear to have different prices depending on what country someone is in. When I notice other games specifically I'll make note of it, but I don't memorize the prices of everything so it's hard to notice, which is also why it is very annoying.

UPDATE:
Immediately after I submitted the above comment, I clicked on the GOG logo and went to the homepage and the price changed again and now both of the instances of The Witcher 3 Hearts of Stone show up with the wrong (American) pricing for me at $8.99, when as you can see in the other screenshots the bottom one showed a lower price. Attached a 3rd screenshot for this below.

GOG please fix this!
Does the same issue crop up when you try IE/Chrome or another browser?

CarrionCrow: Well, that's the end of the sale.

More good bundles, really good prices, even some really nice artwork on the front page. (Though I still hope to see the revenge of the stump creature at some point.)

The pacing's been off, but at least the lower levels of energy were sustained by not doing a mid-point repeat day.

Spread things out more, don't show all your non-bundle items day one, maybe make the last chance icons larger while explaining in 20 foot high letters that no, last chance items aren't being removed from GOG, honest, and the next sale should be better. =)
They never learn do they?. Bet they show all the bundles for the Xmas sale on a single day again before the evil empire store has theirs again this year. Bit disappointing they showed all the dailies at the start of this sale on the first day too.

You could just as well say that the people who keep complaining about it never learn... These big sales aren't structured to be entertaining to people like us who compulsively check the sale every 12 hours (or even more often), they're designed to get heaps of money from the other 95% of GOG's customers. And I'm pretty sure they do that, or GOG wouldn't keep doing it this way.
Looks like I bought around 40 or 50 games on this sale. The reason that is interesting is, this happened 1 week after I decided not to buy any game anymore. I am turning into a woman :)

real.geizterfahr: Because you don't own this "edition". You own the old Fallouts with more extras ;)
avatar
Glamdring7: OMG! It's true! The old versions of the Fallout games offered here had heaps of extras compared to the resurrected versions offered now. Thanks for the info. :)
Yep - when Bethesda took over the rights to the original games from Interplay, the rights to the included extras did not naturally carry over, so it may be a long time until we see any of the original goodies return for these titles. Such a shame for people just getting around to playing these games now/in the near future.
Was a great sale! Thanks GoG! Waiting for the Christmas sale now :D
Lol. Gog just sent me the email in my inbox about the finale and there's... 2 hours left?
Anybody know what game that is in the background, if it is?

me2. Anyway, I can't make GoG accept my paypal these days (never had problems in the past), so I missed Pillars of Eternity. After leaving the Paypal website it gets redirected to GoG site for verifcation, where it waits forever. Had a few other games besides Pillars in my basket that are still discounted but I guess I won't buy anything.

Hurm, the thread seems to be rather inactive. And I wanted to ask for advice.

I've narrowed it to these 4 deals.
The Fall
Age of Wonders 2
Gemini Rue
Revolver 360

If you could only pick ONE of those, which one and why?

I have all 4, but haven't played them yet. If I were to go with my gut, I would probably choose Gemini Rue. Aside from being priced less than the others, it also seems to have the best rating. (Not only by number of stars, but by number of ratings.)

I'm also a fan of the point and click adventures.

It's a good argument.

The Fall has a very flashback-esque feel to it. Which I kind of like.

I own three of the four games you mentioned (not a big fan of strategy stuff, so no Age of Wonders for me), but if I had to choose one, I'd probably go with Gemini Rue or The Fall. Revolver 360 is a very nice game, as well, but it's a bit short, even for a shmup, even though the world rotating mechanic adds quite a bit.

As for Gemini Rue and The Fall, both are great point & click adventures; Gemini Rue is more "traditional", even though it has those awful action fights that seem out of place at times -- oddly enough, The Fall has action fights in real time as well, but it kind of works better since the game is seen from a side-scrolling perspective.

If you *really* need to chose between Gemini Rue and The Fall, take into consideration that Gemini Rue is a "finished" game, whereas The Fall is supposedly the first episode of an episodic series (even though you get a sense of closure when finishing the game, to be honest). Both of them have great stories, you may prefer one to the other in that regard, depending on your own preferences.
