Up to 80% off Quest for Infamy, Gone Home, Never Alone, Lumino City, and more!

Videogame storytelling is in a way similar to flirting techniques: others believe in chatting their audience up and others prefer driving the message across with meaningful visual cues and creative use of sound. Are you an advocate of the "show, don't tell" approach or do you enjoy the mental imagery invoked by carefully arranged words? Whichever your predilection, here you will find games that cater to both appetites, standing Words Apart from each other but converging at the same destination: a captivating narrative.

An exercise in subtle expressiveness and emotional storytelling, Never Alone is a puzzle/platformer centered around the unusual friendship between a Native alaskan girl and a fox, as they struggle to survive a fierce, never-ending snowstorm.

Gone Home's protagonist may not say much but the game's story is told using other people's words. Either through newspaper clippings, confidential correspondence, or diary entries, you gradually uncover a bittersweet tale of forbidden love and dark family secrets.

The astonishing paper-craft visuals and melodic soundtrack of Lumino City are the perfect complements to its limited text. After all, one doesn't need too many distractions when experimenting with smart, tactile puzzles.

Whether you like your games chatty like Quest for Infamy and The Curious Expedition, or laconic like Samorost 2 and Among the Sleep, you will find something that speaks to you inside Words Apart. And if you are one of those people who only talk in numbers, there are even some pretty nice discount tags here, going up to 80% off. Now that's a story worth telling!
The promo will last until April 1, 10:59 AM GMT.
I ragequitted Gone Home because I had expected a pure walking sim experience, and I felt that the voiceover spoiled this. Now that I have accepted that the game is something slightly different, I'm ready to reinstall and give it another go.

Definitely don't play Dear Esther if you expect a "pure" walking sim. :P

It's on the short side length-wise but what it does it does pretty well I thought. Liked it much.

Niggles: Never Alone looks good. Unsure about the rest.
Are the reviews about Gone Home right? (seems be pretty negative judging gog reviews...)
Curious expedition looks interesting...
It's one of my favourite games of all time, but I do understand it's not for everyone.
The game is focused on environmental storytelling, so if you do decide to get it it's important to know that the main story isn't the only story. I know this is reply is usually used simply to dismiss criticism but in this case I honestly believe it to be true, most of those negative reviews missed the point of the game.

Looks like I'm getting samrost2 and Order Of The Throne: The King's Challenge. That second one as I feel guilty for forgetting to back it. Even forgot to slacker back it. Had it sitting in one of my browser tabs to do and never go around to it.

My time management skills are seriously crippled by my constant buying of stuff. Here I go again.
Hehe, I just bought Samorost 2 couple days ago.

gamesfreak64: OOTT already part of a sale? thats fast
it was released on jan 26 (9.19 euros)
i got it , 2 months ago

nice sales though , and if you own some of the games or you'd buy the bundle , OOTT it will only cost you 1.79 euros, thats a steal.

items you dont own:

Gone Home
Curious Expedition, The (w.i.p)
Lumino City
Never Alone Arctic Collection
Among the Sleep

But if you dont have any of these games yet , then buying them would give you some good games at a very good price.

park_84: I think I don't get what you mean, it isn't a stacking sale, is it?
no it isnt, i wanted to say that if you already owned 1 or more you would still have a benefit , and if you have none of these , buying all games would still be a very good deal cause they are all good games.

i will try to explain:

i also buy retail casual games on cd/dvd (drm free ofcourse)

A dutch online retailstore bol dot com (dutch/belgium only)
often has sales, that means buy 3 games get cheapest free...
what i will do : suppose each game is normally 15 euros that would be 45 euros
i would buy the expensive games lets say 2 of 15 euros, and another game thats 9 euros, i will be gettin the 9 euro one for free :D

I can repeat that as much as i want, so last time i got 18 games cause: 18/3= 6 so i got 6 games (9 euros) for free
Another example:

suppose i see many cheap retail games:

lets say 9 games: if the sales would be 6 euro for each single game (sales) or 3 games at 12 euros , i would get the 2 games i like and add one crappy game so i can make it 3, doing so i would pay 12 euros instead of 18 euros saving me 6 euros.

Thats how i always count when i see sales .
It might sem complicated but it works a charm, saves me lots of cash, i get the games i like, cheap and maybe the crap game might be also good, so its a win win situation for me.

It sound silly perhaps, but i am dutch, and they always claim we dutch are greedy and we invented the copperwire .

i can, i am old fashioned i guess, i also have a nice dvd movie collection (retail)
plus of retail movies is: you can always at any time watch that old movie again, not depend on the servers to be online.
Suppose you have a few weeks off, and at 03 am you get the urge to wacth that old terminator movie again, when having the dvd you can watch it.
But, chances are very big the online on demand video server might have a ddos attack, maintenance, corrupt database, etc etc etc, the things that can happen (and will happen) are too high, so i dont like to depend too much on any digital online media i either bought or have to rent it over and over again.
And what if for some reason certain titles arent available anylonger on the favorite online video service?
With retail i can buy anything that is available in holland in the stores.

Anyway i am lucky i am a very picky at games and movies, i dont buy or watch just all movies, so in my case i can go on buying retail movies til i am old and gone.
And if i should live to see that all retail will be abandoned, too bad, then they wont get any cash anylonger, i wont buy digital videos , or create online video accounts, i'd rather watch a blank screen or rerun my old dvd over and over again.

I mostly can't be bothered with physical games as everything seems to be tied to Steam nowadays.
Might as well just buy it digitally.

ah, steam, yes i hate steam aswell, i stick to games at 10 cents to 2 euros, thats it
well i made a small exception for shadows on the vatican, i liked part one (sales) and i wanted part 2 and its drm free after you have it downloaded and installed ( win xp )
so all garbage lands on winxp and i run it on my win7, if win xp supports stops on steam, i might be getting windows E.T, i mean windows 10 later, so win10 can phone home with buddy Steam.

I personally loved Gone Home but I realize it's not for everyone. It's very atmospheric with a good story.
Grabbed Samorost 2 as it looks very original, not sure when I can play it though, with the Enhanced Editions of the first Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale from the Insomnia sale waiting at the top of my "to play" list.
