Up to 80% off Spelunky, Super Hexagon, Odallus: The Dark Call, and more!

We've all got a story to tell about a grandpa who, every time we failed in a supposedly important undertaking, would tell us to just man up and Git Gud. The luckiest among us still have our grandma around, so that she can heal our bruised ego with a hot batch of strudels after each Game Over. But for everyone else, getting better is our only option. So hit these smug hardcore games with everything you got, and let's see who'll have the last laugh! After all, going down is just practice for picking yourself back up.

Spelunky's triumphant run may have begun underground but since this sparkling indie gem hit the surface, there was no containing it. Randomly-generated levels, gazillions of treasures, fantastic monsters, and addictive platforming made this an unmissable classic.

Geometry can often be frustrating but Super Hexagon's fast, rhythmic gameplay proves that it can also be used to generate some pure, addictive fun. As long as your reflexes are up to the task, that is.

Granted, the name sounds a bit weird, but there's nothing weird about La-mulana's allure: it's all about the fine-tuned adventure/platforming, the vast levels, and the unforgiving challenges that await players inside this mystical temple.

Sometimes gaming can be hard, but you know what they say, son: no pain, no gain. So press continue and keep practicing until you Git Gud, in the awesome training grounds of Odallus: The Dark Call, TIS-100, or VVVVVV, now that they are up to 80% off! The promo will last until March 18, 10:59 AM GMT.

NuffCatnip: Why was the fifth a disaster? I really have forgotten everything about the older games. `:)

Fenixp: I think he's referring to this abomination
Oh, they did change the genre, from a round-based strategy squad game to a third person shooter, huh. I´m not against that kind of change, but in this case it just does not fit. :)

Why don´t I recall that game though ?

Dzsono: I have TIS-100 on my wishlist, but I've been concerned about its difficulty. Has anyone played it?
I'm tempted to say "Just me". I probably wouldn't be far off ;P...
I beat "the main campaign" without looking anything up (the solutions on the web, I mean. I've read the manual from start to finish before starting the game AND SO SHOULD YOU), but it took me a while, even though I had a decent idea of how things worked from the very start.
Here's my take on the matter: this is the game that separates the nerds from the geeks. If you are one of the few who get excited at the idea of playing it - GET IT. Most reactions I've seen in the release thread were either "I have no idea what this is all about. I'm not getting it" or "I know exactly what this is all about. I'm not getting it". If you happen to be in the Goldilocks group, then consider yourself lucky. Not many people will enjoy this game, I think, but those who will, will enjoy it quite a bit.

I love Spelunky but I'm pretty sure I'll never be as "gud" as this guy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNqe7lYC_oM

Good promo. I'll probably pick up Odallus.

There actually is a genre shift for XCOM which works reasonably well. Sadly, Enforcer is not it :-P As for why you forgot about it - preserving your sanity most likely.

Ghorpm: My favorite is Terror from the Deep even though I admit it has some issues that the first one didn’t have (like way too big, empty maps in TftD).

Third one has a lot of cool ideas but it also penalize you if you are too good: if you are very effective early you will face too strong enemy very fast and it’s virtually impossible to fight with them because you are not technologically advanced yet. So your only option is to be deliberately average if you want to win the game. This feature take a lot of fun.

The fourth… well it doesn’t play like XCOM anymore but it is somewhat enjoyable. The fifth… well, that was and still is a disaster.
Which one is the third? Apocalypse? I played it many times and never noticed it scales with my effectiveness (that doesn't mean it doesn't do it, of course). But then I always went for the toxin guns as fast as I could. After getting those, the tactical battles are mostly just about having enough ammo, and some luck with spotting the enemy first, even on superhuman difficulty. Most I had problem with was that in midgame aerial battles tend to raze large parts of the city, while I don't have enough money yet to bribe organisations to forget about it. Sometimes to the point that a company broke their relations with me. And in case of public transportation company, that really hurts - everything I hire or buy will just stay at the supplier, instead of for example new agents and scientists being able to walk on their own feet, or at least letting me send pickup flier for them. That doesn't prevent them from asking for wages, of course.

Ahh, good times. I think I liked apocalypse the best of the three. Hope we will get it here someday. Wouldn't mind to look at the remakes either, should they decide to drop their DRM nonsense.

I have that game! :D
Completely forgot about it. xD
Tried it on my older PC that couldn´t run the game (paid 60 bucks for the game :/), well, after a year or two I bought a new PC but I forgot about the game. :)

Thanks for reminding me of Declassified. ;)

The preserving my sanity part could be true. :`)

Heh, don't thank me until you actually give it a shot, you might end up cursing my nickname :-P I found it reasonably fun if approached without expectations (and it had some truly amazing moments), but it's too apparent that the game went trough development hell and some people hate it.

We´ll see, you´ll be the first to know if I curse your name. :)
As for the expectations, I forgot I own the game for quite a few years now, I think my expectations are as low as they get. :D
Yes! An Odallus sale!

Also, how is that TIS-100 game? Does it run in a window?

NuffCatnip: Wonder when we´ll see the Bombshell patch come to gog that has :D
Wait seriously? Did 3DR send it and GOG's just dragging their feet or what?
Yes! I've been waiting for Spelunky and Odallus to go on sale. Now I have them. (/^▽^)/
I recommend Volgarr the Viking if you want a challenge. It is just like the old arcade platform games. Once you learn the levels, it is easy, but it will require effort. Look for Rastan's dead body in the first level. Σ(・口・)
I wish Shovel Knight was on this promo. Maybe in the upcoming weeks.
Hm, nothing interesting for me this week.

My category is "It seems interesting, but I'll probably get stuck at level 2" XD

No, there is a beta patch over at Steam, they have yet to state when the patch gets out of beta. Should have said so from the beginning, sorry. :)
I hope we´ll get it at the same time as the owners of the game over at Steam get it.

For example Alien Tech levels are related to your score so the better you are the earlier they have better weapons. And it's not just that - if you play super effective very early they may attack your HQ in the first week. Armed to the teeth. New Alien Tech levels are unlocked based on your score, not your own technological advances so you can get to fight fully equipped aliens while still using mediocre guns yourself... The general idea was nice but IMHO it wasn’t very well implemented
