50-75% off Ultimate General: Gettysburg, Panzer General, Pacific General, Fantasy General… and Rollercoaster Tycoon

Generally speaking, it's good to be General. The pay might not be great (in this case you'll actually kind of have to pay to do it) but the perks, the perks are many. You get a cool hat, and you get to determine the outcome of mankind's greatest wars. How's that for a strong resume? Our weekly staff picks this week is , and all-around awesome - with five fantastic strategy titles... and [url=http://www.gog.com/promo/rollercoaster_promo_280915]Roller Coaster Tycoon up to 75% off.

Panzer General 2 & 3D are classics. No doubt about that. They sit among the greatest and most memorable strategy titles of all time. It's the grand stage and turn-based, hex-based combat that combine into the true treason for the series' success, the perfect strike: depth and accessibility.
Pacific General is a grand strategy as well, a spiritual sequel to the classic Panzer General series. In it, you'll return to the overhead battlefields of World War II in full-blown historical missions, and what-if scenarios. And if you're a fan of large-scale-hex-based battlefields - that same kind of game and feel also found a surprisingly comfy place in the unique steampunk-infused fantasy setting of Fantasy General.
For a different kind of historical aura, Ultimate General: Gettysburg is a beautiful looking, tactically detailed and deceptively simple title. If you're even remotely interested in war and world history, it's hard not to recommend this authentic strategy.
Finally, when you tire of waging war and its many pressures, take a break with Rollercoaster Tycoon - design your own FUNderland, pick your business strategy, and relax to the beautiful sound of children's laughter, and their desperate corkscrew screams.

Generally... it's five strategy titles ( and Roller Coaster Tycoon) at 50-75% off! The weekly staff picks promo will last until Thursday, October 1, 9:59 AM GMT.

Vythonaut: The question isn't whether you have enough money to buy these games but whether you have enough time to play them.. ;-)
Time is money.

Hence, I bought the games I was missing from this promo, namely Fantasy General, Pacific General and Ultimate General. I recall trying to play Fantasy General before, but I didn't get that far. Nice music in that game, though, very LOTRish.

It's on sale for 5 bucks. Just let that sink in for a second. A highly recommended strategy title on sale for 5 dollars. It's not like someone is asking you to repay the national debt.

True, I would listen to a regular like you recommendation of it, certainly looks pretty great for $5. I guess it's just the complete polarity of some reviews to what it says in the summary that is odd.

Regarding the developers webpage there was an upate this month mainly to improve the AI. I'm kind of interested in the game, but watching some videos on youtube I'm asking myself how troops can so easily pass a river. I'm really interested to hear some feedback from someone who played the updated version and can say how well they improved the AI. No problem btw if it's still a little bit faster and more casual, but at the moment I'm not sure how well the basic mechanics work.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. The people who don't like Ultimate General just happen to be wrong.
Another sale on Roller Coaster Tycoon?

I'm honestly surprised there are still people out there who DON'T own all the Roller Coaster Tycoon games already.

Seriously, guys. Buy them. They are so great.

I don't really mind that much, I havn't got any money anyway. But opinion is a bit different to mechanics not working well or correctly. That is what is bothering people I think.

If people started to say Total War's units were pointed in the wrong direction or ran away from inferior units all by themselves I might be a bit more worried than if someone just said they just didn't like it.

Buy any one of them you want. Roller Coaster Tycoon is one of the most influential and beloved strategy simulations of all time.

Everyone should have a least one copy of one of those games in their library.

Niggles: Anyone actually bought and played Ultimate General: Gettysburg ?. Reviews mostly seem to be positive and AI supposed to be good but there is one bad review....
Someone will always complain about something. I for myself will try it out before making my judgement.
