Oh, you'll want in on that Con!

It's PDXCON time again and for three days Paradox fans will be converging to Stockholm, Sweden to celebrate the epic games in the publisher's expansive catalog! Even if you're not attending, doesn't mean you can't participate in the fun: our PDXCON Sale is now on, with a wide array of modern classics going for up to 80% off.

Pillars of Eternity and Tyranny are two prime examples of why the isometric, party-based RPGs of yore needed to come back and stay. Age of Wonders, Europa Universalis, Majesty, and Hearts of Iron will more than scratch your tactical itch while sucking you in their respective worlds.

The PDXCON Sale ends May 21, 10pm UTC.

todda: They are simply losing more business. I, and many others like me won't buy on steam, but would on Gog, and would probably even re-buy something we already had.
They know they are losing business. In their own words, gog customers are "only a 5%" of their sales, so they also seem to know exactly what are they losing. No comments.

tfishell: I'm surprised at the negativity. Some good discounts, -75-80%. Sucks that Cities Skylines isn't here because that has thousands of votes, but the holdup is probably Galaxy integration.

Besides Cities Skylines, does anyone know what other highly-desired Paradox games aren't here yet? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Paradox_Interactive_games

Kakarot96: It depends on what you call "highly desired".
Generally I mean the context of the wishlist, like wishes with over 200-300 votes (kind of an arbitrary number admittedly). Of course the wishlist isn't always or only a big indicator of how well a game will sell.
Teleglitch would be cool to have on gog too...

I'm still kicking myself over getting the basic Pillars of Eternity instead of waiting for the eventual Definitive version.

It speaks volumes that they'd rather just give away Crusader Kings II on Steam rather than sell it here.

They didn't give away the eleventy billion pieces of DLC for that particular game yet, so maybe they'll still add it to gog.
Maybe I'll get Tryanny and the expansions. I already have Age of Wonders 3 and Pillars of Eternity, and there's really not anything else on sale I want. I liked the Europa Univeralis games when I was little, but they're all bland to me today.

I love me some Obsidian! I like how they make olde school games. One game they should put on GOG is Alpha Protocol. I'm sure they probably can't cause it's own by Sega I think. That would be awesome though, IMO that game is a great game that was overlooked. I'd actually love to see an Alpha Protocol 2, but with more options and choices. I know it'll never happen, but still, a spy CRPG full of choices, how many CRPG's would we ever get where you're a spy?

I haven't bought a thing from Paradox since they slashed their sales discounts in half, combined with the DLC spam. Not going to, either. But the older stuff they have here is good value.

Vythonaut: Sadly enough, the DRM-Free Tax seems to be pretty big on this one.
For me the prices are exactly the same. Also, on GOG I get the fair price package, so it is actually cheaper here. Why?

Edit: nevermind, I didn't notice that the complete package gets further discount! Then yes, it is really unfair!

As much as I'd love to get Age of Wonders 3 (and *maybe* even Tyranny, but I'm not sure about its quality) there is no way in the Nine Circles of Hell I'm going to buy them.
Paradox, call me again when the whole package is 15€, please!

In GOG the weekend Sale of Paradox has more offers of games than Steam. Is a pity that now I m short of money :(

Crusader Kings 2 and EU IV are probably the most desired.

Negativity doesn't come from discounts but from Paradox policy which is basically EA tier of treating customers like a garbage. Every single of their games (not to be mistaken with games they're publishing!) contains between shitton and fuckton of DLC; you can play without them, but base versions are something close to being a beta. Up until recently, they were even pushing shit like "portrait packs" and "unit packs" for EACH DLC. Not to mention they quite often lies selling "complete packs" which usually turns out to contain only 1/3 of DLCs; an easy way to make money off unsuspecting new buyers.
^
Ultimate editions are not DEFINITIVE ultimate editions. Which in turn are not UBER ARCHON GOD-EMPEROR definitive ultimate editions. That do not include portrait packs.
Some companies are on my personal black list because of them selling tons of dlc or so many different versions of a game (Legend, Game of the Year, Ultimate....)...hey look Paradox is one of them ;-)
Paradox are saints compared to Dove Tail. :D
The crapton of DLCs are bad enough, but this:

...is the most egregious. A 'complete' pack should be bloody complete.

Back in EUII - EUIII days, Paradox used to be a no-brainer to buy from. Excellent games, good post-release support... and they weren't the usual AAA publishers with their shitty treatment of customers.

Then Paradox discovered that they had enough loyal fanbase to try... maximize profits. Games started to get chopped up into tiny pieces to be sold separately (not sure what other games genuinely had you buy graphics and music packs as additional "DLC"). Now, they bundle forced telemetry into every one of their games (went so far as to patch that shit into my CK2 purchase long after I bought it, and fuck customer rights, you'll be feeding us information whether you like or not plebe).

Well, their games went from a "must have" on my list of priorities to "yeah, maybe in a couple of years when the actual complete edition (not just a scammy half-content release with "Complete" in its title) comes out, and I can still launch it while blocking the everloving crap out of any network connection attempts."

GG, Paradox, and thanks for saving me quite a lot of money by now.
