I'm guessing because settings where the governmental authority is weak and nonexistent, lend themselves very strongly to RPGs, which rely on having uncontrolled "wilderness" zones that are occupied by roaming monsters.

But space operas settings would qualify easily.

Also one could argue that most space sims are RPGs, where you select various quests for various parties and keep levelling your spaceship...

By coincidence, playing the scii-fi heavy https://www.gog.com/en/game/starcomnexus atm (also in the sale). I find it well-received here and elsewhere. Give it a try if you're into the mood of running a stranded space ship into a mostly hostile galaxy with lots to explore and upgrade upon.

Is Star Trek 25th Anniversary and Judgement Rites a decent pick up for someone who's not into Star Trek? I heard some good things about JR and my brother was interested in getting himself a copy, but I'm worried this will be one of those things where my lack of familiarity will be detrimental, and apparently they're also buggy?
