75% off King's Bounty: Dark Side, Men of War: Assault Squad, Master of Orion 1+2 and more.

War can be a cruel thing but also a minefield of buried opportunities. If you can navigate and survive it, brave the surrealism and inhumanity of it all, the spoils you will unearth might just seem worth the trouble. Especially if they are of the magical variety. But you need to be bold, ambitious, and occasionally desperate. You also need to keep your eyes on the prize, whether it is that Enchanted Tiara of Painful Headbutts, glorious immortality, or the promise of a better tomorrow. And no matter your prefered reward for going to war, you will definitely find it in our Weekend Promo: <span class="bold">The Bold and the Bountiful</span>.

If it is strategic glory and historical participation that you seek, you will find yourself in good company among the Men of War, swapping stories with your fellow Soldiers: Heroes of World War II or raining death from above on your IL-2 Sturmovik. But warfare can also be whimsical and exhilarating when you are out seeking the King's Bounty, either by jumping between Crossworlds or by role-playing your Dark Side fantasies. It can also be more subtle than just causing Total Annihilation on the enemy forces by launching a Massive Assault, as wars are often decided by stealthily bringing Death to Spies. So try on your many Faces of War and be sure to claim your just rewards as a veteran of the virtual battlefields.

Boldly fight your way towards plentiful loot and long-lasting fame with our Weekend Promo: <span class="bold">The Bold and the Bountiful</span> of 35+ titles going for 75% off, including Space Rangers HD, Galactic Assault: Prisoner of Power, Master of Orion 1+2, Perimeter and more. The promo will last until January 26, 4:59 AM GMT.
A big thank you to Impaler26 for the Fantasy Wars game! That was a nice surprise! :)

CarrionCrow: If they put 'em out, odds are they'll be purchased. Still waiting for the sequels to Star Wolves to show up.

markrichardb: The second game was apparently borked, so GoG may have their work cut out for them.
I played the third one and had a ton of fun. No glaring issues / bugs that I remember. I'm pretty sure I even picked it up before I used GoG and know for a fact it was DRM free.

I never finished it (it was a "decently" difficult game - satisfying and fair but not easy) but I did put quite a bit of time into it.
Oh come on, 36 items on sale and only one being linux compatible?

Time to work on my backlog..

Matruchus: So how is Kings Bounty: The Legend gameplay wise? Is it similar to HOMM 3? Been looking at this series for sometime.
Yes and no. It's similar in the way battles are conducted. Turn based combat on a grid based map. As far as differences go, you cross the map in real time, talk to quest givers and solve their problems. Map is also populated by wandering groups of monsters and AI heroes with their armies in tow. You don't own any cities, instead recruiting creatures from various neutrally owned castles and dwellings. Trick is that these dwellings have finite amount of units, which occasionally replenish - usually after you've done some quest. Also, you need to have leadership to recruit units, and based on how much you have, and what class of hero you are, number of units you can have in your army varies.

You get three types of heroes: fighter (has a lot of leadership, can recruit the most units, concentrates on might skill tree), mage (has the least leadership, smallest army, but the most potent magic, so you can buff your army, nerf the opponent and deal most damage with damage dealing spells and paladin, who is the sort of middle ground and heals his army, improves their morale etc.

This game is all about devising the best strategy and army composition to deal with various AI armies and wandering creatures with least amount of losses.

I'd definitely recommend Legend or Armored Princess if you're into HoMM3. Later iterations of King's Bounty aren't anything special.

BrokenBull: 454? Σ(゜ロ゜;)
How many did you finish?

groze: Oddly enough, I did finish around 95% of them, my backlog is kind of small. It helps that I tend to prefer action and adventure games that don't take me years to finish. *o*
When you finish the games, do you finish it 100% by getting all of the extras, secrets, multiple endings, etc.? As for me, I don't do it unless I really like the game. I have no time to try to get a 100% for all games.
S2: SILENT STORM GOLD EDITION would have fit nicely into this sale. I really want to buy that one.

Enebias: By the way, if you play DtS definitely check this out: http://www.developwith.me/aho/dts/index.html
Hmm.. is there a problem with the download? I was able to download the VFS Unpacker, but not the addon and English texts. The page just displayed a lot of strange symbols and pretty much froze up Firefox :P

That sounds like a header problem, with Firefox trying to parse the .7z file as a webpage instead of a binary to download. Right click and "Save as" should take care of that.

Thank you! That solved it :)
Would anyone recommend the UFO or Men of War games? If so, which ones? Also, what about Space Rangers HD?

Nirth: I'm thinking of getting Perimeter, it looks unique and different. What about Faces of War? I remember enjoying Company of Heroes of the little I played, only that I didn't feel too motivated to finish the campaign due to the theme. I've read it's more tactical which should suit me better though.
I really like Perimeter. The game play isn't the most unique (sadly - the terraform aspect had a lot more potential), but atmosphere, art direction, and story are, in my opinion, really good. That said - the story is quite abstract and you have to work at following it, a bit. It isn't literary fiction, quality wise, but veers into that direction in how it's structured and presented.

I am wondering about Space Rangers: HD. Have the Space Rangers 2: Reboot version that used to be on sale here - how much more are the changes to the mechanics worth, especially in relationship to the new pirate faction. Also: Anyone have any experience running it on Linux via Wine [Space Rangers 2 works with a few work arounds and some limits - but it still crashes now and then on my system)].

Random_Coffee: Nice! Playing completely "iron man" in the long, difficult missions in Hitman definitely wasn't easy. I'll buy DtS, and let me know if the sequel is any good if you get to play it this weekend :)
So far I have played only the first two missions, but I'd say it's totally worth it. It is basically the same game, but a bit more refined and with more complex objectives; if you like the first, you will like the second.
It is also fiendishly hard, as per tradition! :P
Quick save is your best friend.

I don't really recall it being that much of an "upgrade". Had my disc still been intact and I bought it, I may not have been overjoyed. That said, its years since I played the disc version.

Nice! I'll buy the second game too then :) I played the first one this morning. It's pretty good so far, I like the mechanics of it. I'm kinda stuck though :/ Will you check out my thread in the DtS subforum, and see if you've had the same problem?

Edit: Nevermind, figured it out.

I'm only in the beginning but it's shaping up to be a good game, if a tad hard but not unfair (I need to get used to the mechanics). As for the story, that it's abstract and requires some thinking to follow is a plus in my opinion considering how dull most stories usually turn out to be (unoriginal and eays to follow). Have you played Emperor's Testament and New Earth?

Here's a post on Steam regarding the difference to Reboot: Linky

About the pirate faction, apparently it's sort of unbalanced, some people seem to recommend to turn down the pirate difficulty. I've yet to play enough to really face them, I was mostly trading, doing a couple of text quests and planetary battles.
