70% off Jagged Alliance 2, Sacred: Gold, Leisure Suit Larry, Race Driver: GRID and more.

To be considered a legit player by all the cool kids, one first needs to work on their street cred. Maybe sport a backwards baseball cap "borrowed" from the grisly, retired pitcher next door. But why risk having your pants munched by Mr. V's trusty pitbull when you can Play the Field from the comfort of your own home? All you need is a sweet ride, some strategic thinking, and a love expert (with plenty of erotic misadventures under his cheap-looking belt) at your side. Coincidentally, that's exactly what you will find inside our Weekend Promo: Play the Field.

You don't want to come off too strong, so spend some time laying out your strategy first. Refine your tactics with Disciples 2: Gold or go for an exercise in patience and deliberate movement as you slowly form your Jagged Alliance 2. Then you can observe the target from your Off-World Resource Base, making sure you don't become Cannon Fodder when the real action starts. And once it does, don't be cruising in your Pinto, pick out a new ride in Race Driver: GRID or Flatout 2, with the regrettably experienced love-guru Leisure Suit Larry as your co-driver. Next, you should get your ink done in Port Royale 2, and finally reap the rewards of this undoubtedly challenging endeavor. It'll almost feel like winning a round of Combat Chess.

Show everyone that you've got game(s) and Play the Field with our Weekend Promo of 30 titles going for 70% off, including Sacred Gold, Sensible World of Soccer 96/97, 1nsane, Patrician 3 and more. The promo will last until January 11, 4:59 AM GMT.

darkwark: Should I buy Flatout 1 or 2?
Aye, go for Flatout 2. Better music, better graphics and more awesome crashes :).
Thanks guys! Bought the second one.
So small amount of sports titles... :(

fan3l: So small amount of sports titles... :(
maybe its because all the shooters, platform, rpg, adventures, and action games cover a very large part of all game types.

With sports it all looks kind of same compared to other games.
Famous sport games: FIFA games (19?? till 2016 and they just keep on releasing new ones)

My game collection including retail games (cd/dvd) are mostly adventure, rpg, strategy, and some action games
since the last 8 or 9 years i started to buy casual games cause there are no good retail games (cd/dvd) beiing released that i like. Most of them are FPP, football/soccer and other usually 3d games, or 2d games with too much motions and flashing effects.

In the past you had a number of wellknown racing games and they just released version ?? every year or sometimes released some extra racing tracks, other then that it was always more of the same racing game, football/soccer game.

Same goes for The Sims till sims V 100000? who knows how long these games will be released, its more of the same but with better 3d graphics (usually the system req. also rise like crazy) and prices from 30 up to 50 or more euros for a sims game.

Anyways basically game has a name like FIFA and a number , they add more stuff more eyecnady better animations but it is still the same plus you need the latets fastest chipsets and gpu, and most of the time the classics wont be playable on the latest windows and latets GPU.

fan3l: So small amount of sports titles... :(
Because these things are license bounded.

You won't see any FIFAs, NHLs etc. here.

Maybe we will get some fantasy sport games here on GOG in the future, like the following:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJPwXvQd5RU

Also, sport games are not actual for long run (at least for most people/players). The same goes for F1 (Formula 1) and other racing games. They are being played only for a season or two and that's it.

Emulation and such (WINE) can mostly help in this case. At least for 80-90% older titles.

vicklemos: GRID and Flatout are different experiencies. But they're among the best "oldies" on the pc, imho.
Actually, you should try these with butt in couch, controller, big screen and superb sound setup. Otherwise it would be just, uh, anti natural :P
avatar
Random_Coffee: The way I play most of my racing-games are in couch, big screen, decent TV-speakers, a cup of coffee.. and "The Duke" :D
That's the way it goes for us, normal human beings... for those superior gods, there are those almost in-home arcade cabinets, shaky and all ;P
And oh, for those gorilla-handed like us, there NOTHING like this beat of a controller! :D

To fans of FIFA , Forza and what-not, who buy and play every release, there's enough new things in those games to warrant a purchase. From their perspective a new Dark Souls game might look exactly the same as the last one, and so on. I mean you do the exact same things in every Souls game, the only thing that varies is the look of the settings.

It depends on how embedded you are in a certain genre. To me all space sims look and play the same. Someone who plays a lot of these games would argue differently, that there's a significant difference between them.

I can assure you that people who mainly play racing games would be very quick to point out the differences.
In the same way a Dota player or Hearts Of Iron fan can recognize the differences in new versions of their games.

I disagree. I think most people who buy F1 are long-term fans of these games and this motorsport.
The people who quite are causal gamers who want the next pretty game that comes along.
They are people who buy games like Project Cars because it looks pretty, not because they like racing games.
It could also be a regional matter. F1 racing games are very popular in countries like the UK and Brazil.

Hot tips for Mac-heads:
GOG's JA2 Mac version works IF you manually update the Wine engine Wineskin uses for it. Apparently, The rather old version GOG uses just results in a crash on startup. See here.

FlatOut 2 may not be officially sold for Macs here, but the Windows version runs very well with Wineskin with Directx9 Winetrick installed. I just installed it on my Mini for testing purposes, and I ended up playing it for another 2-3 hours instead. Still one of the best arcade racers ever made. :)

When was the last time that you downloaded the Mac version? It was updated 2 months ago to fix compatibility issues with El Capitan.

I don't even use El Capitan. That was just for the 'security' crap, anyway. No, the issue really is GOG using an outdated version of Wine. That crash issue seems to be quite common, too.

Hmm, wasn't the El Capitan issue dealt with by updating the wineskin wrapper to the version 2.6.1.? Or that's not how GOG did it? Or maybe, the 2.6.1 update didn't update Wine's version itself?

Yup, the wrapper itself was updated, but the Wine engine it actually uses is at a low 1.2-something, while Wine is past the 1.7 mark now.

Depands a lot if you like the genre.
The sport sims cant be very varied because the rules of the sport they are simulating are the same all the time.
Some tryed to add some rpg elements (Soccer Superstar) or to add a little story (Real Madrid: The Game).
I am sure we will never see AAA sports here, but there are some others that can be added and still have fun.
But time will fix everything and some sports will come for the people who love dribble like Messi, shoot like LeBron or pass like T. Romo. :))

Well, maybe you are right, but only partial.

I've got a friend who still plays EA's F1 Challenge '99-'02, because he says, it is one of the best games ever made. And there are tons of mods for it. Or there is a guy in my neiborhood, who is a big RBR (Richard Burns Rally) fanatic and plays it almost every night for hours. He buyed a used racing chair from an older rally car, just so he got a feeling for driving a real rally car.

On the other side I know some people, who buy consoles only for playing the actual FIFAs, PES and some other sport and racing games. But only for the actual season. Then, they are selling those games and buy than the actual version.

They don't call themselfs casuals, since they can play tens of hours with these games. They play trough them, some of the got eventually bored pretty fast ... and as I already wrote: they sell the game.
Is 1nsane the better Screamer 4x4? Or how does it compare to Screamer?
