Make some time for timeless classics: 60% off gems like the Ultima series, Dungeon Keeper Gold, and Jade Empire, or 85% off the whole package!

If you've been a gamer for more than one month, chances are you've already crossed paths with Electronic Arts by now. It's no coincidence, since their catalog is choke-full of (still unsurpassed) classics from any genre imaginable: Looking for a deep strategic experience? A point'n'click adventure that fans still hold dear to this day? Epic RPGs revered by enthusiasts for their groundbreaking mechanics and impeccable execution? They're all here - pick the ones you missed for -60% or grab the entire selection for an unbeatable -85%!

Trailblazing, ambitious, hardcore: there are plenty of reasons why the Ultima games are still considered to be among the few landmark RPGs that withstood the test of time, thanks to their staggering attention to detail, innovative mechanics, and immersive world.

Can one of the best asian-themed action/RPGs of all time come from a western developer? Sure can, if it's Bioware we're talking about. Their Jade Empire won everyone over with its exotic locales, enchanting mysticism, intriguing character development, and fast-paced combat.

Now, how many fairytales let you play as the villain? And that's only one of the reasons why the often whimsical, occasionally twisted, and consistently magical Kyrandia series is still remembered fondly by point'n'click lovers everywhere.

Take a glance at the Electronic Arts collection and you'll immediately spot at least four classics. Take another and they're now a dozen! So go ahead and pick the ones you prefer for 60% off: Syndicate Plus, Theme Hospital, Crusader: No Remorse, Nox, or any of the others. Grab them all at once and it's 85% off!
The promo will last until October 11, 3:59 AM UTC.
I don't like this promo. 59% on games that were already on sale for less more than once is not appealing, and this whole "buy all to get a reasonable discount" scheme stinks.

No love for Simcity 3000? And, God, those local prices for EA games are insanely high! T_T
This promo lies!
It's 59% off, not 60%!

I give you permission to peek at my library and/or wishlist with the knowledge that I'll collect anything on GOG if it's cheap enough.

My rules are:
1. If it's good, it has to be at least 50% off and $5 US or less. (Otherwise, I couldn't afford everything I want)
2. If the reviewers generally agree that it's buggy or frustratingly flawed, I tend to wait for 75% off and $3 US or less.
3. If it's got DLC, I tend to require that the cost of the game AND the DLC add up to $5 or less, but I'll make the occasional exception.

Hell, everyone can look at my wishlist if they want to. (It feeds into IsThereAnyDeal.com so I get notified automatically by e-mail if the terms I stated above are met.)

NOTE: Because the publishers took so damn long to come to the GOG table, I tracked down the CD-ROM versions of Battlezone, Day of the Tentacle, Homeworld (1,2, and Cataclysm), Rage of Mages, TrickStyle, Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, and Worms: Armageddon, so I'm free to play them while I wait for a sale here.

(Well, technically, I own two copies of Worms: Armageddon that I bought new (one as part of a classics bundle) and TrickStyle just found its way into my posession when friends were cleaning out stuff they didn't use anymore.)

When you remove one game from the massive list and the price jumps for everything else, I'm automatically not interested, no matter the games. Can't stand promos like this.

Besides, I already have a handful of them, so there are slim pickings of what I might potentially be interested in.

Here are some ideas, some serious, some humorous, some both. I'll let others decide which is which! :oP

1) The Weekend Tex Mex Jamboree Promo!
- All of the Tex Murphy games
- Any games that take place in or have any other references to Mexico or New Mexico, or Mexican characters in them, as well as any other Mexican cultural references.
- It's too bad there isn't a "Machete" game starring Danny Trejo! Can you imagine how awesome that would be!!?!?!?!

2) The Weekend Abduction sale!
- Games that have "alien" in the title and/or deal with aliens in some way (ie: XCOM games)

3) The Dark Weekend Promo!
- Games that contain "Dark" somewhere in the title, there are like a million of them, some subset (or all) of them.

4) The King's Majestic Weekend Promo!
- Games that have King or Kingdom in the name and/or games that have characters that are kings within them. (zillions)

5) Star Light, Star Bright Weekend Promo!
- Games that have "Star" in the title somewhere, there are 10 billion to choose from, pick a reasonable handful.

6) The Please Don't Faint Weekend Promo!
- Arx Fatalis for 75% off. That's it, just that one game, you know, for the first time ever on sale.

7) The Offensive Weekend Promo!
- A nice collection of - or all of - the games on GOG.com that are known unquestionably to be considered offensive games.
- Postal, Postal 2, etc.

8) Your Sister's Underwear Drawer Exploded Weekend Promo!
- All of the Japanese dating simulators and anime games that are marketed using girly child-like characters that are sexually exploited.

9) Your Weekend Trip to the Slammer Promo!
- Theme: Games involving prisons.
- Prison Architect, Chronicles of Riddick Dark Athena/Escape From Butcher Bay, 1954 Alcatrazz,

10) Weekend Promo Origins!
- All of the games that have ever been given away for free on Origin.
- Oh wait, no... that wont work, that's the current sale. :oP

11) The Weekend Private Eye Promo!
- A multitude of detective games.
- Sherlock Holmes series
- Tex Murphy series
- Blackwell series
- etc.

This next one you need to talk about publicly how awesome it is going to be for several days, weeks or even months in advance to get everyone all super excited about it and hyped up in advance. Don't tell them the name of the sale in advance though, just how awesome it is going to be and really pump it up. Make promises of things that will be included in the sale, sale specific features like "all games are one world price despite the normal regional pricing" and stuff like that, really lay it on thick. Then...

12) The No Man's Sale Weekend Promo!
- The only game on sale in the promo is No Man's Sky for a 5-10% discount.
- If/when anyone gets upset because the sale did not deliver upon all of the promises that were made, get Marcin Iwinski to do a new video reprising his role as the French Monk to apologize. C'mon it'll be hilarious and draw great publicity from the gaming media that will fuel new growth and uptake of customers!

Ok, I really need to go to bed now I'm super tired and starting to see things. Hope my sale promo ideas help!
choke full!

Yeah, like Fairfox said, perhaps a little more variety on the games.
Could be done with a Genre (like an Rpg, Sim, Action or anything else Genre) or perhaps
something like the years from which the games are.

A 1999 or 2006 or something like this mix could be fun (IF there are enough games from said year^^).

Or how about a "new to GoG"-Weekend Sale from games that are listed on GoG just for 6-9 Months.
Of course, the Sale-% would be much less then 50%, but perhaps a 10-25% Sale from "new" Games would bring a little more variety to the Weekend-Sales.

Thats just my thoughts, of course there are more things you could do, but that would be a start for more variety. ;)

Didn't we have a Weekly Staff Pick like this two months ago (without CoR and 1954)?
All of these are going in the IDEA BOX(tm)!

Will shake it hard, and see what falls out :)
decent promo, thanks

Smannesman: This promo lies!
It's 59% off, not 60%!
It's GOGmath! :) On a serious note though, those odd looking "off by one" discount percentages only appear above the promo and seem to indicate what the discount is on the USD prices that the games are based upon. By my calculations they then take the discounted USD price which is actually 60% off, convert it to your local currency and then they are rounded up to the nearest 0.09 so it looks pretty for marketing purposes. As a result however the few pennies that the price increases due to this rounding causes the actual discount to drop below 60% to something like 59.99% or whatever (depending on the actual price of the given game), and they display all discount percentages as integers rather than to multiple decimal places. They probably can not legally round discount percentages upwards, so they simply truncate the discount to an integer, so 59.99% or 59.97% or whatever it is becomes 59% instead of 60% in one's local currency. The "60%" or whatever it is showing at the top is just for whatever reason not also adapted to the local currency.

This is all conjecture on my part that I've mucked around with a calculator in the past to try to decode but the math all works out every time so it is probably a reasonably accurate depiction of the deep dark secret GOGmath(TM) formula. It remains a mystery to me why they do not correct the incorrect "60%" showing at the top (or whatever it is) when this happens though. In either case the actual per-game discounts shown are correct as is the final totals on the bill, excluding programming bugs and glitches and other human errors that happen approximately every time. :oP

It certainly would look more professional if they either fixed that broken percentage calculation, or they applied the discount of 60% straight up and did NOT round it up to 0.09 for silly marketing purposes. Another idea is to just not display a master discount at all if the math is that hard. Still another idea is to buy a math textbook. Ooooooo, that's a low blow... Just kidding fellas! :oP

I'm not sure... I usually stay away from the staph picks as I don't want to get an infection! :oP

(Do you see what I did there?)
