66% off Arcanum, Pharaoh + Cleopatra, Gabriel Knight, Vampire: The Masquerade, Space Quest and more....

Activision just turned 36. What a number that is. Starting in 1979, Activision changed the developer/publisher dynamic in gaming, and soon became one of the biggest forces in the biz. Today, they own some of the most classic IPs here on GOG.com. So happy (belated) birthday, Activision, we totally didn't forget - we're celebrating the occasion with the entire catalog at an all-time high 66% off!

Do you want to be a hero? Set off on your Quest for Glory, an adventure/RPG hybrid full of humor and well-designed gameplay. The quest for glory games will let you grow from just a graduate of the Famous Adventurer’s Correspondence School into a hero of unparalleled skill. And whether you're a fighter, a mage, or a thief - overcoming open-ended challenges has never been quite as fun since.

Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura is a legend. It's one of those games that were only possible in a very particular time of RPG experimentation on a massive scale. Troika's became famous for delivering exceptional vision and gameplay help back by bugs, but a massive community effort to bring titles like Arcanum to its intended glory mean that there's no better time to experience the legend that hasn't since been repeated.

Pharaoh + Cleopatra & Zeus + Poseidon are the definition of addictive. They strike the perfect balance between refined design and relatively simple gameplay that combine into a historical city-builder that you really, seriously, won't be able to put down.

There's more, of course, with Space Quest I+II+III, King's Quest IV+V+VI and over 30 Activision titles at 66% off. Happy Belated Birthday, Activision! The promo will last until Tuesday, October 6, 3:59 AM GMT.

l3l3l5l: All the games on the list are Windows only. Curious, who is responsible for adding Mac and Linux versions - GOG or Activision? To me it looks like adding wrappers for the most of the Sierra quests is a no-brainer. Sigh.
Either GOG staff didn't have the time yet to package and test it, or Activision didn't give the go.
As time passes, the former becomes less and less probable...
*buys police quest: swat and kills a granny with a flashbang* How did that happen..

There are so many things wrong about this. :p

Oh right that's the FMV one right?
That's the only mission I ever played of that one.
Such a strange series when you think about it.

Yeah, the fmv one. Moving is disorienting I don't really know where do I end up when clicking an arrow. I did save granny also but I did reload and shot her with mp5 just to see what happens. ^^

Just me encouraging Activision to bring more games, nothing special.

Legacy publisher thinking probably goes like this:

"Linux? We don't expect many sales from it. Why bother to negotiate new contracts and pay lawyers to write them if it will cost more than potential gain"?

Of course that's stupid, but I can easily happen.

Well Activision, you should treat yourself for this birthday bash like .. *winks*.. you know.. releasing a certain game here on GOG.com sometime. :)
I recommend the city builders (especially Pharaoh), Arcanum (although it's not as good as everyone says, better grab the D&D games when on sale) & Quest for Glory. The Space Quest / King's Quest games are too unforgiving (miss saving a mouse that you see for 2 seconds and think to be just decoration from a cat? Congratulations, half the game later you are in an unwinnable situation).

guppy44: Thank you for the detailed reply.

I am a fan of adventure games, and am familiar with the frustrations many of the early ones brought on. These were common in the King's Quest games. Much as your scenario, there were one-chance things that one didn't even realize was a vital "thing" until the game could no longer be progressed because of it. Ah the memories of literally making 30+ save files because it may be necessary to load a save half a game back to make a correction. :)
Yes RTZ is very much in line with the old sierra games in that there is no handholding. If you can handle the frustrations then give them a go.

Heres a list of top 100 adventure games by Adventure Gamers in 2011. I'd say its roughly accurate having played about a third of those games. Zork Nemesis is 51 and Grand Inquisitor is 12. Don't read the other other pages though, they tend to give away too much of the game.

Awesome! Thank you for this list. I'm going to have to comb through this. :)
Maybe we could celebrate by getting some more Sierra classics on GoG!

Codename: Iceman
Colonel's Bequest
Conquest of Camelot
Conquest of the Longbow
Dagger of Amon Ra
Goldrush!
Manhunter
Manhunter 2
The Black Cauldron (may be copyright problems on that one)
Eco Quest
Torin's Passage
Thexder 1 & 2

I'm sure I missed some other great games.

Torin's Passage is already here. What would be really great is to have Dynamics on board (Earthsiege, Aces of the Deep, Rise of the Dragon to name a few)
