66% off Arcanum, Pharaoh + Cleopatra, Gabriel Knight, Vampire: The Masquerade, Space Quest and more....

Activision just turned 36. What a number that is. Starting in 1979, Activision changed the developer/publisher dynamic in gaming, and soon became one of the biggest forces in the biz. Today, they own some of the most classic IPs here on GOG.com. So happy (belated) birthday, Activision, we totally didn't forget - we're celebrating the occasion with the entire catalog at an all-time high 66% off!

Do you want to be a hero? Set off on your Quest for Glory, an adventure/RPG hybrid full of humor and well-designed gameplay. The quest for glory games will let you grow from just a graduate of the Famous Adventurer’s Correspondence School into a hero of unparalleled skill. And whether you're a fighter, a mage, or a thief - overcoming open-ended challenges has never been quite as fun since.

Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura is a legend. It's one of those games that were only possible in a very particular time of RPG experimentation on a massive scale. Troika's became famous for delivering exceptional vision and gameplay help back by bugs, but a massive community effort to bring titles like Arcanum to its intended glory mean that there's no better time to experience the legend that hasn't since been repeated.

Pharaoh + Cleopatra & Zeus + Poseidon are the definition of addictive. They strike the perfect balance between refined design and relatively simple gameplay that combine into a historical city-builder that you really, seriously, won't be able to put down.

There's more, of course, with Space Quest I+II+III, King's Quest IV+V+VI and over 30 Activision titles at 66% off. Happy Belated Birthday, Activision! The promo will last until Tuesday, October 6, 3:59 AM GMT.

It would be nice though if at least a few of these games could get Linux support until the next birthday. Sadly not a single game in this promo comes with official Linux support (if I haven't overlooked anything).

blotunga: Is this indeed the highest discount these games had?
avatar
yyahoo: To reiterate what Impaler said, I can say with certainty, looking at my order history, that I got Caesar 3, Zeus+Poseidon, and Pharaoh+Cleopatra for 75% off and Zork Anthology for 70% off. So there's at least those, maybe more...
Several of the games were available with 70 or 75% discount before. The city builder games, the kings quest games and the phantasmagoria games have even been 80% off in bundles.

tfishell: I don't know, I think we could see the first two Call of Duty games show up here since it's not like they're "locked into" Steam in some way; I think it's more a matter of Activision paying attention to GOG again or GOG getting an "audience" with Activ again.

Grargar: Assuming that Steam integration is a big deal (which I don't believe completely, what with other games that have been Desteamified like Darksiders and Saints Row)
Hopefully not. Perhaps that's what I've been lead to believe. :-P

haydenaurion: Much thanks, I missed some of those when voting awhile back, though I doubt we'll see Call of Duty on here and even if that did happen Activision still wants way too much for CoD 1 on Steam.

As far as price goes, the $30 Warchest seems like a semi-reasonable deal to me - Call of Duty 1 + United Offensive + Call of Duty 2. Plus it would probably come here at an initial discount.
That would be acceptable.
Picked up Zork: Grand Inquisitor, Call to Power 2 and Quest for Glory. Already had Arcanum. On the fence about Police Quest and Dark Reign. Are they any good?

Will most certainly buy Pharaoh and Zeus before the promo ends. Who knows when will I get the time to play all this, though. :)

dick1982: that'll be nice. but how compatibility is bloodlines with modern windows OS's or any OS ?it's suppose to be one of the most buggy games ever made?
It works great on Win 7 x64 and unofficial patch, now at version 9.4, if I'm not mistaken, courtesy of Wesp5, has squashed pretty much all the bugs and restored a lot of the cut content.

All the games on the list are Windows only. Curious, who is responsible for adding Mac and Linux versions - GOG or Activision? To me it looks like adding wrappers for the most of the Sierra quests is a no-brainer. Sigh.
Activision's birthday huh? Excuse me while I go leave them a present, right on their birthday cake.

What? No I'm not bitter about them having a stack of games I want while completely ignoring us for years or anything.

Why Sin Gold is not in the sale ? It was published by Activision during its first retail release in 1998.
I'm waiting for an other sale to grab it....

blotunga: Can anyone recommend me anything else from:
Quest for Glory
King's Quest Games
Krondor
Spycraft
and from Zork I've only picked up Grand Inquisitor as it looks the most recent one and I'm not sure if I want to be frustrated by the earlier ones :P.
If you've never played Quest for Glory, do give it a shot. :) There a five games in the series, and they're actually five chapters of one whole story - as a result, you can import your Hero from game to game. The gameplay is a mix of point'n'click mechanics and RPG progression - a hybrid that works really well, and is fun to play as you have several approaches available to each problem, based on the class you play and on your stats (you can, for example, play a magic-using thief and solve problems either way, or play a pure warrior/mage/thief and focus on your class' path). To me, the main appeal of those games are their humour and charm, as well as their use of various cultures and mythologies as inspiration for each game (QfG1 is based on germanic folklore, QfG2 has an arabian nights setting, QfG3 has elements of both Ancient Egypt and tribal Africa, QfG4 is based on slavic folklore, and QfG5 has an Ancient Greece setting).

Although they're better played as one whole story, each game can be enjoyed as a stand-alone - and if you only play one, play Quest for Glory 4. The creepy setting and eerie story, the AMAZING narration by John Rhys Davies (and stellar voice acting over all), the lushest of VGA graphics and a killer soundtrack make this the best of the series in my book (not to mention that I'm very partial to slavic folklore and mythology :D). It was crippled by game-breaking bugs back in the day, and the installation was a nightmare, but the GOG version applies all the fixes and patches that were developed over the years, and is close to godliness.

TLDR: Do yourself a favour and play Quest for Glory IV - and all of them if you can. :)

PS: Quest for Glory 2 never had an official VGA remake like the first, but there is an unofficial one by AGD Interactive, and it is amazing. :) Get if for free here.

Yeah, it's long overdue to be released on GOG.
