66% off Arcanum, Pharaoh + Cleopatra, Gabriel Knight, Vampire: The Masquerade, Space Quest and more....

Activision just turned 36. What a number that is. Starting in 1979, Activision changed the developer/publisher dynamic in gaming, and soon became one of the biggest forces in the biz. Today, they own some of the most classic IPs here on GOG.com. So happy (belated) birthday, Activision, we totally didn't forget - we're celebrating the occasion with the entire catalog at an all-time high 66% off!

Do you want to be a hero? Set off on your Quest for Glory, an adventure/RPG hybrid full of humor and well-designed gameplay. The quest for glory games will let you grow from just a graduate of the Famous Adventurer’s Correspondence School into a hero of unparalleled skill. And whether you're a fighter, a mage, or a thief - overcoming open-ended challenges has never been quite as fun since.

Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura is a legend. It's one of those games that were only possible in a very particular time of RPG experimentation on a massive scale. Troika's became famous for delivering exceptional vision and gameplay help back by bugs, but a massive community effort to bring titles like Arcanum to its intended glory mean that there's no better time to experience the legend that hasn't since been repeated.

Pharaoh + Cleopatra & Zeus + Poseidon are the definition of addictive. They strike the perfect balance between refined design and relatively simple gameplay that combine into a historical city-builder that you really, seriously, won't be able to put down.

There's more, of course, with Space Quest I+II+III, King's Quest IV+V+VI and over 30 Activision titles at 66% off. Happy Belated Birthday, Activision! The promo will last until Tuesday, October 6, 3:59 AM GMT.

Dark Reign if you like RTS. Pharaoh + Cleopatra and/or Zeus + Poseidon if you like city builders. Arcanum if you like good, original RPGs.

guppy44: I would love to see them here. These are fantastic games and I'm particularly fond of The Dagger of Amon Ra

On another note, I own all of the games in this promo with the exception of the Zork games. I'm thinking they're worthy of a purchase? I've never played them but reviews always seem positive.
Depends whether you like adventure games or not.

Can't say much for the early Zork games as I hadn't played them.

Return to Zork was a pain, there are lots of things you might unknowingly do that'll render the game unbeatable. Once I accidentally tossed a bag or string into the furnace and had to restart when I found out later I needed it. The reviews on the page is quite accurate. There was also a section where you had to navigate through a marsh which was quite annoying.

I don't remember much of Zork Nemesis, except it had a dark setting and I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would. I suppose you could say the game was quite forgettable.

Grand Inquisitor is the stand out game for me. Its funny and has good puzzles. Not as unforgiving as Return to Zork and has a decent story. You have a companion for most of the game who is genuinely funny and not annoying. Just beware that the best version isn't on GOG. I only just found out that theres a superior DVD edition with better videos.

If you had to get one, get Grand Inquisitor. Also, it doesnt matter which order you play them as the story in all three are different.

Cool, thanks!
(of course, I already own a bunch, but still cool!
:-)
Nice promo, awesome games! Now how about celebrating your birthday with a bunch of new releases my dear Activision? :-)

yyahoo: I understand what you're saying, but it is still a bit of word games. That the question has come up suggests that it is a little too easy to misconstrue. I still stand by my comparison to a "Witcher series discount at an all-time high of 50%". It may be true, but it's still misleading...
Eh. There's always gonna be someone who will (innocently or purposely) misconstrue statements in advertising copy like this, regardless of how carefully worded it is. As long as the info's not blatantly wrong, everything's spelled/worded correctly, all the links work/are correct/exist, etc. (none of the above being a given with this site), I'm usually not too picky. =)

Hmmm... but i already got all the games from this list i'm interested in...
Is there any progress with bringing more Activision games here? Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines is severely lacking on GOG!

Here are some between 1k and 400 votes (I'm sure several here have rights issues like the Siege games, but I threw them in anyways):

Ah, I had wondered if that might the case. I was unsure from the phrasing. :)
Oh damn you I literally just bought Dark Reign 1 and 2 in the week! /shakes fist

Thank you for the detailed reply.

I am a fan of adventure games, and am familiar with the frustrations many of the early ones brought on. These were common in the King's Quest games. Much as your scenario, there were one-chance things that one didn't even realize was a vital "thing" until the game could no longer be progressed because of it. Ah the memories of literally making 30+ save files because it may be necessary to load a save half a game back to make a correction. :)

Much thanks, I missed some of those when voting awhile back, though I doubt we'll see Call of Duty on here and even if that did happen Activision still wants way too much for CoD 1 on Steam.

I don't know, I think we could see the first two Call of Duty games show up here since it's not like they're "locked into" Steam in some way; I think it's more a matter of Activision paying attention to GOG again or GOG getting an "audience" with Activ again.

As far as price goes, the $30 Warchest seems like a semi-reasonable deal to me - Call of Duty 1 + United Offensive + Call of Duty 2. Plus it would probably come here at an initial discount.

Assuming that Steam integration is a big deal (which I don't believe completely, what with other games that have been Desteamified like Darksiders and Saints Row), it wouldn't be unreasonable to expect the first Modern Warfare and World at War as well, as none of those games required Steam at retail. But like you said, it would still require Activision to become active again here.

I guess this could work over the alternative of paying $20 for each of those games. Still, I would like to see if GOG could convince Activision to drop the prices of those games (like they convinced Bethesda to drop the price of Quake 1 and Quake 2 Complete).
