That is part of the problem, I think.....people should be willing to take ANY honest answer, no matter how it is said or delivered.

And that is likely part of why GOG doesn't want to reply back.....if people want a certain answer in a certain way and that alone(or nearly that alone).

Many things in life are better enjoyed if a bit of work goes into getting them, and nothing in life(unless you're rich) is easy.

Also it's downloading a game, not writing a master's thesis on particle physics.

I think the only way for GOG to have a new version of the downloader is to recreate it by making the downloader that Galaxy has a standalone version of that. Will GOG be willing to that probably not but who knows.

You want something that is easy and with a one click download... well that's Galaxy, plus Galaxy also installs the program which makes things even easier then the downloader. So wanting ease of use isn't really a good argument to use in this case as Galaxy is easier than the downloader.

You had a better case when you pushing having options and choice in how you got the program.

You have shown your obsession with the downloader and your attempts to force the downloader into other topics that I can't take this seriously, I have never had an issue with Galaxy so you having so many issues is rather hard to fathom and must be exagerations considering the way you act in other posts and topics.

In fact Galaxy actually managed to get a game from Origin running due to Origin having an error as it couldn't call home and would not allow me to access to my games, wouldn't even let me run them from there directories, thankfully I linked my Origin account to Galaxy and Galaxy was able to get the game running.

Cloud, give Xtreme Download Manager (https://sourceforge.net/projects/xdman/) a try. It can hook into a browser or not via addons and can break up a download into chunks and download each one seperate giving a overall speed boost. I can't use that feature as I don't have enough bandwidth to make it worth while, but it might work for you.

I get horrible speeds downloading through Galaxy (not so much bandwidth as it just seems to be slow at doing everything). But through the XMD, much much better and I can pause/resume as needed. And dial back the speed when required as well. There might be something better, but so far it is the best I have found that is free, open source, and not a huge bloated malware mess (or at least raises a bunch of red flags).

Being more efficient is to be praised, imo, but being lazy is not.

Your life is likely already very easy.....maybe a bit of hard work would do you some good? :|

Those who don't like it have a few worthwhile/workable choices:

Try to change the system via efficient means more likely to succeed(via social media, getting support from YTer and such who can "champion the cause" for the rest who want such, etc).

Stop buying and let GOG know, then stay to post on the forums or leave(if one chooses)

Continue to buy and use the browser or other alternatives.

(Anything else, like mentioning it on the forums a few times, isn't likely going to change anything)

It's some checking and a few extra clicks.....what, is everyone's fingers broken? Must be.

As someone who has over 1200 games from gog, and likes to keep a backup copy without having to install the games via Galaxy, this actually sucks.

I will have to reference the web site to see what's updated, then search for the game in Galaxy, and trigger the download (edit) for batching multiple downloads.

I also understand I'm in the monitory, and still support GOG for bringing DRM games.
It just kinda sucks.

Edit 2 - It's not as smart like downloader was, I trigger Game A to download, then Game B, if I re-trigger A, it re downloads despite having the files already there.

Edit 3 - Did find by changing in Settings - "Other download folder" this does create the old folder structure and saves the extras and core game.

Basically, I have the added step of using the site to tell me which games are updated, then triggering the download via Galaxy.

Now this is a good post.....well written, you seem to have had a need for the downloader, and you expressed what you wanted to in a civil manner.

A lot of this is debatable depending on experience, myself I have never had an issue with Galaxy but had a number of issues with the Downloader.

I just did a double check and you can download offline installers with Galaxy (under Extras, never looked there my bad)

So you can get offline installers with Galaxy then quit (or even remove Galaxy) and still have the offline installers.

I will agree though that it would be nice to enable/disable features of Galaxy people do not need to trim down resource usage.

Yep, that is true, this is my experience with gogs store app, absolutely horrid, well horrid is my experience with store apps in general, very much locked down and do absolutely nothing to "improve my experince" as is the go to answer with these store fronts.

Being forced to update games (unable to play until said update is installed) (don´t know if gog does that), constants updates of the store app itself, lack of control over where games are installed, constantly shutting down useless functions that get turned on by itself after updates, etc etc, everything wasting time, I personally have very little interest after getting home from a long day of work to wait for upto 30 mins while the store app forces and update on itself and potentially the game i wan´t to play, that is time I don´t like to waste.

This is my opinion, I dislike being forced into using something that wastes my time.

I still have a considerable amount of games that I need to download and update and using the website will take forever and the sluggish store app probably even longer.
So given that I think I am going to see if I have time to finish making my own downloader (with blackjack and hookers), plenty of learning possibilities in there.

I feel bad for someone that was using this, but I think that GOG needs to focus on what is used the most with their limited resources.

I have been using GOG Downloader only to download my DRM-Free games and just found out that I cannot download the games which I have bought a couple of days ago with it. Not a good decision in my opinion, having to download each file separately in a web browser is a huge step back - will check how it is possible to download the game backup via GOG Galaxy though...

EDIT: I do not see such option in GOG Galaxy, what a shame.
I guess that this would be mainly to force users to use GOG Galaxy more, but this is not the correct way how to do it. If I do not want to use another game client like STEAM / Battle.net / Origin / Uplay / EPIC / ... than I will simply not use it. The main reason why I have bought over 800 games on GOG till today is the reason that they are DRM-Free and I can download and backup their installers easily. And the big part of the DRM-Free functionality just took a hit now since you just made the option to download the files much more inconvenient. If at least the functionality to download all the goodies and game installer files would be available in GOG Galaxy...

I am not a fan of the Galaxy client, but you CAN do downloads/backups. If you go to your library, click on a game, then under "backups and goodies" that is how you can backup/download the installers. Personally though, I would rather use something like Xtreme Download Manager, it is open source (link a couple of posts up), hooks into browsers if you want via addons, and is faster than the Galaxy client. At least for me (not to mention I have the ability to pause/resume if needed too). You might want to give that a try. Yes it does require a couple of more clicks in the library to get all the extra goodies, but I seem to get all the functionality otherwise I had with GOG downloader (and a few additional perks).

If they dump the stand alone DRM-FREE installers, then I will go somewhere else. Otherwise, with XMD this is do-able. While I wish they would have been better at communicating this with us, and giving us options. We CAN still download the stand alone installers so the core of GOG is still here thankfully. The biggest problems I had is the the Galaxy client is a lot slower at downloading, and I need the ability to slow down download speeds since I don't have a ton of bandwidth to throw at large games and pause/restart downloads if needed. The GOG Downloader was perfect for this, and light weight. It is missed.
