Me? I DL mostly when I buy, and if it's a ton of files I game while it does it's thing(for the larger files)....pausing every so often to DL another batch and make note of what I DL'd.

Also that's why I don't fully "get" the ones who say they're "wasting time" with DLs.....as one can usually do other things on the PC or IRL while they wait

That is just plain wrong and never was the case (not 6 months ago and not 1 year ago or 5 years ago ...) . Not a single one of my archived installers which I used GOG downloader for has Galaxy integrated.

Still possible until the 17th of March. Try it and see if it has Gaalxy integrated.

When I bought a disk for backup purposes, I inquired around here about the best way to download installers & I did mention GOG Downloader because I was using it at the time.

Someone said the installers it downloaded came bundled with Galaxy, and I'm 90% sure I checked it. Of course, there is the 10% possibility that I didn't, and I just took the user at his word.

If that was the case, then it's possible no one told me about it being the case in GOG Downloader, and I just figured it wasn't worth taking a chance.

At one time GOG had the (not very good) idea to bundle online installers with Galaxy. During install you would have to opt out installing Galaxy. IIRC they listed a few games for which they wanted to do such integrations. They scratched that idea after the ... not very nice feedback they got.

Still they wanted new users to have it easy and since they expected them to not understand that they could only get Galaxy features after having installed and launched the game through Galaxy they designed this gigantic blue button on the library page. This button would install Galaxy if it has not been installed yet, start it and download the game from within Galaxy.

Since people wanted to have their offline installers without any Galaxy as well they added regular offline installers which are a bit more hidden and which links are much smaller.

The GOG Downloader links they kept for legacy reasons however were - as I said - never touched by this abd always pointed to the regular offline installers without any additional Gaalxy addition (which is logical since GOG Downloader has been invented prior Galaxy with the idea to just download offline installers and install your games client free).

If people have an opinion, why not argue in good faith, instead of just clicking buttons?

Well ... technically they never realized this idea. It was a plan and they never executed it (luckily). Of course this blue button can be considered as being a bundle as well ... but technically it does not even download the offline installer. But yes, you did not imagine things completely :)

I am glad that those who downrated you for this at least had the decency to stop doing it after your correction. I am not a fan of downvotes at all. I might disagree to some thimngs, I might have other information n some cases but simply clicking a button would not show WHY I disagree or WHICH information I might have.

Like I said, I am on your side and only use the downrate button if people are hateful and truly offensive in posts ... or if they are spammers. Unfortunately clicking a button is much easier and of course not everybody is willing or have the to write lengthy posts at all. If it would be up to me I would erase the downrate button completely. If something is against forum rules people could still report and if people disagree they can either post or just say nothing. If I want to tell people that a certain post is wrong or if I have arguments for my side of the story it should be worth the time to write a few sentences. Anyway, I don't think this will change anytime soon.

I am not sure what you mean by "they never realized this idea". For several months in 2017, the default offline installers were bundled with galaxy. You had the option to download galaxy-free installers if you wanted to (by unchecking some checkbox), but the default installers were galaxy-laden.

Oh, you are correct. I completely forgot that we had those "Galaxy Installers" vs. "Classic Installers". I only remembered that they announced this for 100 games and the backlash that came with it. But still the GOG Downloader afair always downloaded classic installers (feel free to correct me here as well in case I am wrong).
