LeonardoCornejo: Yeah. GOG is neglecting some awesome games and bringing some subpar ones. I mean, compare any Japanese game to for example Firewatch and, well, the Japanese game will always be superior. And compared to the GOT games, any JRPG is better. I don't know what is their quality control lately, but they are neglecting pretty good games.
Are you saying that Takeshi's Challenge is better than Firewatch?

How about Hoshi wo Miru Hito? Is that game better than Firewatch?

One game is old and poorly programed. Pinning both for comparison in an attempt at supporting firewatch is like comparing the bones of an animal to a deformed specimen and saying the deformed specimen is healthier than the skeleton. The other is a bad joke, it is almost an April's fools joke. You really can't compare the Kusoge genre with crappy indie games because Kusoge are made to suck while bad indie games just, well, suck. It's like comparing Machete, Planet Terror, and Sharknado to the pretentious Begotten, Battlefield Earth, or the horrible Pasolini films. The first one were meant to suck, the last ones just suck.

Don't try to defend Firewatch. And let's be honest, every single game made by IF, Compile (Or Compile Heart), Nihon Falcom, or Nigoro deserves to be here more than Firewatch, and don't make me get started on other bad hipster games that have been released here and get shunned by the audience.

WBGhiro: Gog is really slacking off on the animu games market. Senran Kagura was confirmed for release here by Xseed but somehow isn't here yet, and steam gets both older and newer VNs released every other week.
I'm still curious as to what the "technical issues" were with the DRM-free release of Senran Kagura. Of course, they haven't released Akiba's Trip either.

The lack of some of the higher profile VNs is definitely odd. I'd love to get the Higurashi series here.

I am not defending Firewatch (a game which I know nothing about); I am instead challenging your claim that all Japanese games are better by pointing out a couple likely counterexamples.

(Of course, Japan doesn't have a monopoly on bad games; there's Action 52 and Big Rigs, though the latter is actually funny.)
I remember something on twitter with a guy saying hey what about the others and they said it did not do as good on gog :/ wish I can find that tweet again

I am angry cause I want to get the others here...
If I knew the others wont come here I would have not got the first one and get them all on steam to complete the stories of each one and not just one.

Well, I have bought the first Neptunia game + DLC on GOG, if that matters. If that wasn't enough to get rest of the games here, oh well. Can't win them all I guess.

Errr, apple and orange? You're trying to compare narrative games to RPGs, and those have diferent audience.
Comparing the GOT games with visual novels would be more adequate, since technically, the Telltales narrative games are western VNs.

And I don't think spitting on a game to get support to another one is a good way to defend your cause. It will only polarize the debate between people who loved Firewatch and people who dislike it, rather than generating attention for the JRPGs.

As for the rest of the HN series here (as well as other titles like Fairy Fencers). Yeah, I enjoyed HNR (in a "oh god, the grind! But it's pretty and funny!" kind of way), so I'd probably buy the sequels. Although when I think about JRPGs, I'm more a "Trails in the skies" fan. Now, THOSE are damn fine games :)

I really hope the 3rd chapter will come to gog too when Xseed finishes porting it. Really excited for Trails of cold steel too.

Good point. It was just my pained rear end talking. You see, some people argue these games should not be on GOG because they are "too nice" or "weeaboo shit", but in my opinion games such as the GOT game, which is made for fans of the series, and Firewatch, which I have heard is not fun to play, are even more "niche", and that, well, angers me.

snowkatt: so this source about nihon falcom and pc gaming being the leading force in japan while square is a dwarf ?

cant help but notice you ignored two requests about that
avatar
LeonardoCornejo: Oh, sorry. Well, my source, well, some friends who were very interested in Nihon Falcom before the company even became relevant in the West, and the reception of series such as The Legend of Heroes in Japan. On the PC gaming being the leading part, I once read a few articles which mentioned PG gaming was slightly more popular than console gaming in Japan because Japanese people had at least one decent computer per household, which made PC gaming a more efficient option. In fact that is why La Mulana makes many allusions to old PC systems (I think it was the Amiga) because that is what Japanese gamers see as very retro.

Edit: Correction, it w
as the MSX, not the Amiga, and in fact Nihon Falcom is like Square-Enix' grandfather. They were the first to make an actual JRPG.
so just personal anecdotes and hearsay then

also just because dragon slayer was one of the first doesnt mean it is actually good

most jrpgs are sadly stil modeled on dragon quest with endless grinding

Is that going to divert the focus from what we should care? To see good games on GOG. Dude, this is not a court or a research paper.
We do need to see the rest of them here. Gambling on the thought that the later games might show up here on GOG, I decided to buy the first one here during the summer sale, and have been enjoying it thus far, much better than I expected!

I'm interested in seeing more of the games here, DRM-free. Especially the games with Plutia.

I've tweeted this thread to their Twitter account.

Thank you. I think this is what we should focus on. Getting these games, as well as other awesome Japanese games such as the third game in the Trails In the Skies series, the upcoming Zero Escape game to be released this week, and in general all those other awesome Japanese games which deserve more attention in the Western market.

Don't forget Peashy *_*

We DO need the rest of them! I had my doubts about HDN games as well, until a former roomate started showing up here and played the games alongside me: from what I catched, seemed funny as hell, and I'd say it's the best purchase I've made during the sale!.

I'd be interested in playing these games from GOG as well! I've always wanted to but haven't picked them up yet. i might if they get more of them on GOG though.
