Now that Blizzard has announced it's bringing out an "enhanced" edition of the game.
Absolutely. And even before that, they were still selling it on Battle.net so the chances of it ever appearing here were minimal. Diablo 1 and Warcrafts got here only because they weren't being sold anywhere in the first place.

That being said, Diablo 2 Resurrected will not be replacing the original (it will still be available unlike Warcraft 3) so there's that at least.

They really need to undo whatever they did for WC3 Retarded Edition. At least separate the old version from the train wreck they made.

Not only that but we also may forget about The Lost Vikings and Blackthorne since they re-released them. I know base versions along with Rock'n'Roll Racing are available for free from their website even if they removed the links from the download page for some reason (The Lost Vikings run in old DOSBox, there is a sync problem and last level have a little issue with artifact instead of the lever).

But technically GOG might receive Wacraft 3 classic. Well not much bur still a hope, someone might want it even without proper online functions from the time before the Reforged overhaul.

I'm curious if Blizzard is going to repeat after Nintendo with Mario 3D All Stars bundle and remove Arcade Collection on September 16 - that would be legendary!
If they're making a remastered version, there's no reason not to sell the original here. I'd still buy it.

This remaster craze is exactly why when I see a disc based version of a game that's had its DRM removed (Age of Empires 1-2 Collectors Edition, Age of Mythology Gold, Diablo 2 patch v1.12, Prey (2006) patch v1.4, Rise Of Nations Gold, etc), I just grab it off Ebay when I can and back the ISO up. So many great classics will never be here in original form due to remasters, and yet the remasters aren't always better vs the originals + unofficial modding community patches.
If I were Blizzard/Activision, I'd publish on GOG all the original versions of games I remaster. The originals still have a target audience, and extra revenue streams never hurt a company. My 2 cents.

That is exactly why I went out and bought a retail copy of Z. The "remastered" version currently sold on GOG is a far cry from the original DOS experience. Which will probably never be available on digital retail. A real bloody shame.

Original Diablo 2 is not being replaced.

"After announcing Diablo 2: Resurrected during BlizzCon, over the weekend Blizzard revealed more titbits about the remaster of their 21-year-old excellent action-RPG. Such as: unlike the recent Warcraft 3 remaster, this will be a separate game and won't update or replace the original Diablo 2."

I already have it on CD and a soulstone flashdrive from the Diablo III Collector's Edition. I want it to be here. :)

I get it, but it's impossible for Blizzard to just sell it here with commission and DRM-free while they have their own store front client full of exclusives. You said yourself "If they're making a remastered version, there's no reason not to sell the original here", I gave you just that, a reason.

So true. The remastered version of Stubbs the Zombie is the last sad example.

Was Stubbs even advertised as a remaster? I thought it was just supposed to be a re-release in the first place.
