almabrds: Fallout, Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, French forum, are under attack.
they're already breach to general discussion D:
I've done a good bunch of marking, but it's getting late now. Shift change.
Neverwinter Nights already have more than 5 pages, full of spam.
Hello Gog? :S
This deserves more votes: http://www.gog.com/wishlist/site/do_something_about_the_spambots_in_subforums

HypersomniacLive: Yes, seriously. Nowhere in the post you quoted did I say that they should have fixed it over the weekend.
Reading it again you did not say that. Not sure how I managed to read it into it?

HypersomniacLive: Because the community does the work for them, and with persistence and devotion; it doesn't matter that it's not as effective or efficient, it's not on their clock.
And these are the reasons I suggested that the community should perhaps stop dealing with this invasion.
Yes, I believe you are right about this. At the very least we should abandon a few of them to the spammers.

Gydion: Seriously? Any fix likely involves actual coding. I for one would like that tested before they bring it live. I hardly need my last 10 threads/replies deleted because I posted twice within a period of 90 seconds. It was the weekend and aside for some support staff everyone was off.
1. It can easily be tested in a test environment. The masses of spam coming in would provide the perfect test data.
2. A temporary fix which would be 90+% effective would take about an hour to make.
3. This started well before the weekend.

Also, forum software usually comes with built-in anti spam features and a user level system which allows restrictions of new post or thread frequency. No need for excessive coding.

Ah, well, if only GOG would use some regular forum software...
After the particular bugs we've experienced in the site and forums I suspect they suffer from Not-Invented-Here blindness.

I think they're using a home brew solution.

Yes, but the GOG "forum software" is made in-house. Unfortunately, GOG has always insisted on coding everything themselves from scratch, which eliminates the option of using standard solutions to standard problems.
quite tired of this ... yesterday BG, NWN, TW2 subforums were cleared, today again tens of pages of spam.. .
Is it really THAT difficult to block&clear automatically every subforum which contains non-english characters in the title, GOG?

No, it isn't. But for whatever reason, they have decided not to do it. My guess is that they have some sort of weird "gold plated solutions only" policy, which is ridiculous in a situation like this. Basically, it's an arms race between GOG and the spambots. Spend ages making a "perfect" solution, and the spambots will simply change their strategy shortly afterwards.
While I've given up on systematically reporting - I mean there are 4 new threads per minute in TW2 - I toyed around a bit and came up with a new bookmarklet.

This one is not to used on the "open thread" view, but rather on the outside.
It will replace the "favourite" checkboxes with "mark spam" checkboxes. The heart at the top is replaced by a button. The "spam" button will open every ticked thread in an iframe and mark it as spam. This will annoyingly create loads and loads of "Thank you" alerts, but at least they will show you that it worked.
The script could certainly be improved, but I simply don't have the time for it right now. Got some real work to do, too ;-)

looks good and works great in FF! Can somebody maybe improve it to the way checkbox is checked by default? It's easier to uncheck non-spam subforums ;)
