Wayforward - developer / publisher of the Shantae games and River City Girls among others - used to put all their games on GOG. I've noticed they stopped doing so in the last years or so.

We've missed out on the new Contra Galuga and River City Girls 2. Most disappointingly, they also failed to release DLC for Dawn of the Monsters - a game that is being sold on GOG.

I've mentioned this several times on discord / twitter to people and even asked the company, but nobody knows or is unwilling to explain what happened.

So...anybody know or have any ideas why they would abandon GOG?

They haven't abandoned us, they're just being more selective. There's talk of bringing their Clock Tower remaster over.

BurlyHeart: Contra Galuga
Here I'm almost certain that's not down to Wayforward but Konami not having given the green light for a DRM-free version yet.

Could be the same for River City Girls 2 and, in that case, Arc System Works.

In general, it's often the owner of the IP that has the last word on what platforms the title using the respective IP or license is sold on.

The first River City Girls is on here though. And it doesn't explain why Dawn of the Monsters' DLC never appeared.

The IP holder may not have been staisfied with sales of River City Girls here on GOG. You would need to contact the publisher and/or get more people to buy the game here. Money is what publishers listen to the most.
Not enough money being made here for them to care? RIP us :)
"What happened?" --- They consistently treated GOG customers like second-class citizens by removing features for the gimped, second-class citizen GOG versions of their games, and then after doing that, they had the outrageous gall & audacity to whine & cry about the low sales of the inferior versions of their games that they put on GOG --- which of course, is entirely their own fault for gimping their GOG games, which happened due to sheer laziness and not caring on their parts, and for no other reason.

Hopefully they will never release any more of their gimped games on GOG ever again. If they don't, then that will be a great thing. :)
I imagine that GOG's headless chicken style of management didn't jive with them.
Seems the Dawn of the Monsters DLC finally got released on GOG:

Fingers crossed we'll see more Wayfoward game like River City Girls 2.

It is almost always about money.
