Been sick and so decided to get my 007 James Bond DVD collection out and just watch from Dr.No to The World is Not Enough. Die Another Day is in the box set but I think the series should of stopped at The World is Not Enough.

I am not really into the new bond films "The Criag Bond" and more an old head, so I like my originals. Plus they rebooted the series with the Craig Bond so kind of weird to follow as you still get the Judy M and she was supposed to be the first female M, but somehow this is a reboot. She is the M that started in Goldeneye if anyone doesn't know.

After watching through all the films, I always found it really funny that all the Bosses and henchmen bosses always had to talk and or leave bond to give him time to escape. And every time I see any of these scenes I always think of Tuco. "When you have to shoot, shoot. Don't talk."

All Bosses that had the chance to shoot and kill Bond, but chose to talk

Ernest Blofeld had his chance in You Only Live Twice, OHMSS, Diamonds are Forever and For Your Eyes Only.

Goldfinger
Auric Goldfinger, Didn't just let the laser kill him.
OddJob, Could of killed Bond at the factory when he killed Jenny at the same time

Live and Let Die
Dr. Kananga / Mr. Big, Had chance when questioning Bond if touched Solitaire and had chance at end of film but decided to try to feed bond to the sharks
TeeHee, Had chance at the farm but left bond alone with the gators thinking they will take care of it.
Baron Samedi, Had chance at the end of film but decided to sing and try to come at bond with a sword

The Man with the Goldengun
Francisco Scaramanga, Had chance at his island but decided to eat and talk
Nick Nack, He could have killed bond in HiFat's garden but was told not to, So Nick Nack would of did the job

The Spy Who Loved me
Karl Stromberg, Had his chance when on oil tanker and had his chance at end of film but talked to much
Jaws, He tried doing his job

MoonRanker
Hugo Drax, Had chances when bird shooting and before launches of shuttles and at end of film before getting shot, talked to much.
Jaws, He did his job

For Your Eyes Only
Hector Gonzales, Had chance at pool but decided to let his guys do it and talk to much
Aris Kristatos, Had chance on the boat but decided to pull bond and Melina in water instead

View To A Kill
Max Zorin, Had chance when scanning bond in his office, had chance during horse race with bond, had chance instead of drowning bond in car, had chance in SF city hall, talked to much

Octopussy
Kamal Khan, Had dinner with him and locked him in his room, had many chances to take out Bond instead of talking

Goldeneye
006 / Alec Trevelyan / Janus, Had chance at statue but left to be killed in helicopter, hand chance in control center
General Ourumov, Had chance in holding room in archive
Xenia Onatopp Had chance in pool area and had chance in jungle area instead of talking

Tomorrow Never Dies
Elliot Carver, Had chance at the China tower facility instead of talking, Had chance on stealth boat instead of talking
Dr. Kaufman, instead of talking should of just shot

The World Is Not Enough
Renard, Had chance in missile silo
Elektra King, Had chance during torcher chair scene but instead chose torcher chair over gun. And talking.

Just a small thing I decided to talk about and shows take out bond if you really want him out instead of talking.

your post brings a quote which I find very fitting:

"So hope like hell your captor is an evil man. A good man will kill you with hardly a word.”

I love how Austin Powers addresses this trope by having Scott say "I have a gun in my room. If you give me 5 seconds, I'll blow their brains out"

In Kim Possible, one of my favorite animated shows, there's a great villain named Señor Senior, Senior (and his son Señor Senior, Junior) who basically became a villain just because he is rich and was bored so he intentionally follows all the silly cliches like that.

Lol, I always thought this scene from the Simpsons was funny.

That's why I love The Last Action Hero as it makes everything in such "serious" movies into a parody. That movie is just so underrated and underappreciated.

Personally, I like the Craig era as his movies are more on the gritty action than smooth talk but the formula still sticks even with a more modern touch.
I see your point with "The Craig Bond". I think the novelty was lost in making the character appeal to a wider audience.

Patrickb2007 probably knows best as to what defies the character, if the decision to make him more of an "International Man of Mystery" didn't sit well with a longtime fan-just an observation.
It is hard to tell if Bond is suppose to be a code name you get when you get the 007 title. Like you can see that they were keeping the same Bond but had to use a different actor from Connery to Moore and Dalton to Brosnan. From the Making of the films they don't want a young bond and don't want Bond old as well. They want an in-between age. Witch made sense to change the bond but still kept the same M and Q / Money Penny. That is why now this theory came in. But they kept the timeline the same with all these Bonds.

In the Criag bond they still kept the female M and made Q younger than bond, but bond is supposedly the same age. They also follow the real life time events such as bringing up 9/11 in Casino Royal. Where as the past bond films took place during the cold war era. But this is suppose to be a reboot before he gets his 007 status. This why I didn't get the Craig series of Bond and think they should of stopped at The World Is Not Enough.

If they would made it a normal continued After Die Another Day into Casino Royal and so on without the reboot. Then the female M and new Q replacement and timeline would of made sense. Just say the young Q was old Q replacement and got the code name Q. And the New specter got the organization back up and running.

I never got into Bond. I just never really got the tone it's going for. Mostly it just annoys me. The only two Bond movies I genuinely like are Casino Royale and License to Kill. Quantum of Solace was ok-ish. From what I've seen of the rest, it's all just not for me.

Guess I'm just more of a Mission: Impossible guy.

That movie is fantastic, one of my absolute favorites in Arnold's filmography. And "I just left one chamber empty" might be one of my favorite villain moments of all time. And when Ian McKellen shows up as Death from the Seventh Seal the movie just flippin' transcends. I think it was all just too clever by half to enjoy a mainstream success.

The Jason Bourne series is good.

I thought the series WAS an anthology or, as you mentioned, a title.

I'll be sure to look into it, but spy thrillers seemed to be the trend with mission impossible, the avengers, the man from uncle.

So I can't weed out any particular reason how its any different despite its popularity.

It is.
Overall, I found James Bond a bit of an idiot, how he used 007 as his pin code for his secret briefcase and all.

No wonder the baddies always managed to kill him and won!

Sachys: It is.
At least in Craig's rebooted timeline it's definitely not.

But really, is there any indication of that in the previous movies other than the actor being replaced? Which happened in other franchises too, but I've never seen anyone claim Jack Ryan is a codename.
