Games force gog galaxy client to open whenever i launch the executable from desktop even though i downloaded without galaxy as offline backup option i shouldn't need to go to my installation folder and change the exe or whatever this is worrying, is GoG slowly becoming drm? I also know there is a list of games that 100% require the galaxy client for multiplayer, now i'm not saying it is a bad client at all but as a customer with my soul and purchases tied to the drm free feature, should GoG turn into drm i think i will give up on gaming. I also believe in lan network which is dying because kids want everything easy (Steam invite to lobby) for exemple...someone enlighten me about Gog's direction..

well technically Galaxy isn't DRM...
but if you have it installed and use it to install games Galaxy autostarts.

GOG is just as DRM-free as it's ever been. Nothing has changed; they don't force Galaxy, that's something on your end.

Most installers, including offline backup installers, now contain parts of galaxy.

If you have galaxy installed they can link up with that and open it for “your convineience”.
If you don’t like that, why on earth have galaxy installed at all, by having it installed your not just doing this to yourself, but actively telling GOG you want more galaxy and giving them the go ahead to push it more.

Multiplayer in modern games may be DRM'd, as in you may need to use Galaxy to play; single-player isn't.

You could also ask for help on the Galaxy 2 forum about starting games without having Galaxy start up too.

Games installed through galaxy create a shortcut that runs galaxy when you open it. Simply edit the shortcut and link it directly to the game executable to avoid that.

^ What Lone_Scout said. You need to be more aware of what your shortcuts are actually pointing to. Either edit the shortcut on your desktop, or even easier pop into the installation folder, right-click on the game's executable, select "Create Shortcut" on the context menu, then drag the new shortcut to your desktop. Done and dusted.

I've been on GOG for ages now and never used Galaxy. Ok, I tried it out once, just out of curiosity, but I'm really not a fan of clients of any sort (which is also why I never could get myself to jump on the Steam train).

Stick to the offline installers and you'll be fine. The shortcuts are somewhat of a mess, but not all games will point to Galaxy on launch. I've had several cases where shortcuts placed by the installer did nothing (since I had no Galaxy to begin with) and had to create proper shortcuts myself. More of an annoyance than a problem.

The only thing I see as somewhat of a problem is that some games require Galaxy for the multiplayer part, but that's mostly on the developers really and has nothing to do with GOG. If the developers wanted to implement a LAN multiplayer component in their game, they could.

As Lord Kane says galaxy will auto start if you have installed.....you can(afaik) run games without galaxy auto starting by running the exe files in the game directory(or their equivalents on linux or mac versions), or by doing what posts 7 or 8 say.

I second the advice of the users who already suggested to just use the "offline installers" (can't blame anyone for having trouble finding them, they are basically hidden out of sight).

Also want to point out the following:
GOG has had the equivalent of multiplayer DRM for years both with Galaxy and with other games requiring things like third-party online accounts verified with dev/publisher in order to play multiplayer. CD Projekt Red's own game, GWENT, is the posterchild for GOG inviting DRM into this store forever. In previous topics where the Galaxy requirement (i.e. DRM) came up, a lot of users have excused it by saying it's only for multiplayer games but singleplayer games are DRM-free. I find this not only pathetic, but also very confusing to GOG's brand that they put forth to the public. GOG has a "sister site", FCKDRM.com, which features "100% DRM-free" sources of media. I don't know about everyone else, but that is the simple request I have of GOG: provide "100% DRM-free". Not "well, um, at least singleplayer is DRM-free". Not "ok we're not patching out active Securom within F.E.A.R. 1 mulitplayer and expansions". 100% DRM-free.
