zeogold: When I first read the title, knowing this community, I thought somebody here on the forum had went all-out and bought him one. All I could think was "This is it. They've finally out-generoused themselves. The only way they could push it any farther is if they bought somebody a house."

I redeemed it and got a cardboard box. With a smiley face drawn in Sharpie on the east wall inside.

Those are its current residents.
One of the smart things to do with a smart phone is indeed leaving the internet off. I you turn off mobile data, wifi and bluetooth and location (your GPS) as well, you can last far longer on a single battery charge. On the Fairphone forum, people complained about battery life being less than 8 hours, but with anything but the ability to make phone calls switched off and the phone mostly on stand-by if I don't use it as an mp3-player, my Fairphone 2 lasts me 5 days on a single battery charge, just like my Nokia 1100 used to do.

Good offline app to use, but you do have to visit Google Play and afterwards download the maps from within the app using the internet, is Maps.me. Very detailed maps, when walking through the forests I noticed even smaller paths are included on the map, very handy for taking a walk, but it has highways etc. as well for when you're in a car. Has maps for all of Europe, so I expect good maps for Greece as well.
If you're not going to use Internet, you should disable "Mobile data" from the upper row of the slide up to down status menu (don't know this page original name :D) - it only wastes battery.

Tarm: This thread made me realize I have a problem. I can add GOG and its forum to my addictions.
Yes I check the forum and sometimes the store too with my smartphone if I've gone long enough from my computer. Even at work and kinda wherever I am if I have a connection to the net. :/

Hey GOG. Fix that damn second load on mobiles! It makes me missclick all the freaking time! This is the only site I've ever found that have this ridiculously annoying "feature".
Heh, me too :)

And yes that is really annoying, I always wait to make sure I click the right thing, or hold press so I see the url before going there and I can check it was the one I wanted.
Enjoy the half day battery life and ultra fragile screen BWAHAHAHAH XD

I was actually looking at the Fairphone for when my BBZ10 dies.

ashwald: Are you guys nuts, my girlfriend (the gifter) would kill me!
You do know that the next action in your to-do list is to turn-on the net and install fb messenger in order to be with her 24x7 right? :)

ashwald: So apparently I'm now a proud owner of the Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime Value Edition. Is there anything I should be doing security wise before I start using the thing?

I should note here that the device will NEVER go online, I'll be using it strictly as a dumb-phone. No internet, social media, apps and whatever. Just regular phonecalls & sms. Yes, the poor device is wasted on me lol.

Oh yeah, I forgot the most important thing: the os is android lollipop 5.1 or 5.1.1.
Congratulations! I'm still resisting, but I'm likely getting a job in the next few months that will require it.

I'm with you. I don't want the Internet following me everywhere.
So now I'm wondering, if I turn off the internet, will any apps try to activate it themselves? Anything like that ever happen to android uses here?

Never, that's not a permission available to unrooted apps. They can only ask you to enable it manually.

That's a relief.

You don't say..

The advantage of a dumb phone is great standby battery life and they are cheap so if you lose or break them, it's not a big hit on your back account. Why not sell it and buy a solid dumb phone instead?
