Hello one and all

Y2K obviously didn't bring the apocalypse, but was anything affected at all?

Yes. It completely changed the way humans regarded "end-of-the-world" threats from that point on, ie. we now don't give a shit.

If you worked in IT - and specifically as either a programmer or database dork - in the late 90s (and it sounds like you didn't) then yes, Y2K was a pain in the ass. For the rest of the world, nope. It was no problem, but it was no problem because we knew ahead of time that it could be a huge problem. Stitch in time, and all that.

The show is My Name is Earl. I found the first 2 seasons hilarious, but it kinda started going a little bit downhill somewhere in the 3d or 4th season.
It fucked up the Gift Cards at Barnes & Noble.

And you used to work there and they'd leave you alone for hours.

Man, I'd talk about something interesting I've done in forty years, but there isn't anything! :P

What about the time when you got banned from GOG?
It affected the delay of some forum posts, like this one.
It took over 15 years for it to start to show up ;)
Yes; but most devices that would be affected by Y2K were decrepit, but somewhat able to be accounted for. There was a Dilbert episode on it too.

Only if you were outside of IT.

If you were in IT, it was partially a mad scramble to fix the sins of those who'd gone before, and partially a monumental triumph over human stupidity (after everything was fixed).

It didn't cause problems was because the warnings were motivating enough to get managers to authorize expending the effort to fix it.

It tried and failed to break down the walls of Jericho.

I read that one subway displayed the date as 1/1/100.

By the way, a similar issue will occur in January of 2038, where 32-bit Unix time_t rolls around, and it will probably have a similar impact (except the date would be in 1970).
