Themken: Was not this part of history thoroughly wiped from the history books?

Anyway, a link to wikipedia's article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warsaw_Uprising
The museum in Warsaw dedicated to the uprising is very much worth visiting, if you have the chance. It is very well realized.
Reading the headline I thought the Warsow shooter is back.

Hmm, why not. Travelling is extremely cheap right now but then I risk the flight company going bankrupt between buying my ticket and boarding the plane.

BreOl72: Edit: oh, one thing: they mentioned that you need luck with getting "the right" recruits or supplies.
Thanks for the info! That almost completely kills my interest, which already hasn't been that high as the game has no Linux support.

If you go, you cannot miss the life-size model of a B-25 within the premises of the museum. The experience is really inmersive and full of details that add up. A full morning or afternoon are easily spent there. Afterwards, a stroll around some of the less-destroyed neighbouhoods that were relevant in the uprising might provide an even more complete vision.

It is a tough experience, though.

fisk0: Hope it'll come to GOG Connect at some point.
avatar
Zoidberg: I wouldn't get my hopes up if I were you: been waiting ages for
Dead Cells to get on Connect.

My bet is it won't ever be available there.

Just refrain from buying games.
You're probably right, I guess I'll buy a second copy whenever it goes on sale next. Still, a little bit of a bummer when these games initially get rejected because GOG thinks they won't sell well, and then by the point they change their mind, their prospective audience has already picked it up elsewhere and may seem to prove the original reason for rejection right.

Where are the games about playing as Nazi and kill some jews ?

If we make/play games like this, the other way around should be fine as well.

We're talking history here, there's no such thing as forbidden history. History is history!

igrok: Seems like the time when WW2 was taken seriously in PC games is over. This and the other one, Through the Darkest of Times it was.
Was there ever a time when WW2 had been taken seriously in PC games though? I can't think of anything which would qualify for taking the subject serious.

And I mean serious as in being able to provide a similarly profound and poignant experience as if you would watch something like Stalingrad, The Pianist, Das Boot, Schindler's List, Come and See or Der Hauptmann.

The Wolfenstein series is and always has been pure, over-the-top pulp, the Call of Duties/Medal of Honors/Battlefields/Brothers in Arms/etc are notoriously one-sided, positively dripping with dull patriotism, not to mention fond of a bit of revisionism here and there and the turn-based/grand strategy games set in the era are obviously more focused on the big picture and usually don't have a narrative of some sorts to go along with it.

Through the Darkest of Times is certainly not perfect and is let down by a few questionable design choices but you could argue that it is something which attempts and for the most part succeeds in a serious take on the subject.
Warsaw, at least by the looks of it, probably too.

I don't mind punishing, bordering-on-unfair difficulty at all and do hope it's as or at least close to as unforgiving as Darkest Dungeon is. There's already enough Darkest Dungeon-likes which play it safe and dial back on the challenge to cater to a larger audience.

Yeshu: During the Communist regime in Poland most contributions of polish soldiers or paramilitary groups where ether downplayed or outright denied. Heck, to this day Putin still claims Poland was "saved" from the Nazis by Russia.
avatar
igrok: So who liberated Poland in 1945 according to you? Or would you rather exist in the 3rd Reich today (assuming the Germans would let you)?
If by "liberated" you mean, wait on the side of the Vistula river and provide NO help during the Uprising, then after both sides basically kill themselves off, roll in and establish a tyrannical occupation that would last for over 50 years, during which they would try to russify the local population and erase all accomplishments from history.. then yes the Red Pig Army has "liberated" Poland.

If im not mistaken a large part of eastern Poland was bassicly anexed by soviet russia.
I think that part of Poland is now a part of white Russia and also some parts of Ukraina.
Il also add that while its true the Soviets contributed to the Liberation of Poland from the Nazis
the Soviets werent the good guys either, Heck Stalin and Hitler did split Poland between themself in a Secret deal.
Also , People often tend to forget the red army occupied alot of Eastern European contrys back in the days
With the result that countless People lost their homes and Propertys.

I'm sorry to say this, but Warhammer already got all the attention I'm willing to allocate this week. Warsaw was on my wishlist on STEAM, but now I'll definitely get it here. Hopefully it also gets discounted during the Spring sale. This release deserved to be rewarded, but you can't release a TBT and RTT in the Warhammer universe, and expect me not to jump at the opportunity.

ShadowWulfe: Nice. I always thought it was weird that a game about Poland would not appear on gaming's penultimate Polish distributor.
There's a better Polish games distributor than GOG?
avatar
i_ni: top 3 Polish movies will do
I'm no expert, but you'd probably struggle to get any consensus about a "top 3". Poland has a very rich film history!

True, after the war the Soviets basically said "mine!" and took most of Poland's territory. there are many cities in Ukraine and Belarus that still have symbols of Polish citizen occupation. One of the more well known ones is Lwów where the people basically speak both Polish and Ukrainian.

Maxvorstadt: DX 11? For those graphics?

Mr.Mumbles: You realize DX11 is over a decade old already. Developers need to move on eventually, you know.
To Vulkan.

None! My vague attempt at understating.

It's just odd to me the limited love GOG gets from Polish developers.
