I'm not a make up artist, but I've seen them do some amazing stuff. I'm pretty sure they'd manage.

You seem to misunderstand the point here. I'm not saying CGI characters can't be done well. In fact, I've already said they can be done great. What I'm saying is that
a)in this case CGI is really bad
and
b)the orcs could have been done well without CG. Not that they couldn't be done well with CG.

Than lets say the problem goes back to the fact that WARCRAFT Orcs are really cartoony and stylized (The second image is from Warhammer Fantasy which Warcraft was inspired from)

I mean look at these images and tell that it can be accurately replicated in Practical Make-Up and effects?

Now if this was the Orcs from fantasy worlds that are more realistic looking like Elder Scrolls then yes it can be replicated with Make-Up

Yest, it can. I just spent about an hour giving you examples of such elaborate practical make up being done very succesfully.

Truth is, it would probably be very close, but not exact. Not even because it couldn't be done, but because it shouldn't. Not everything works well in live action. That's another good reason to make the Warcraft movie all animated or all live action. Consistency. Either have everything be stylized, or make orcs a little more realistic to interact believably with the humans.

I'm not sure why be so obsessed with recreating exactly the cartoony aesthetic of Warcraft in live action, while letting slide the fact that the story apparently took it right in the ass.

Care to explain how unfaithful this movie is to the established lore? And this is judging by the trailer.


And besides the established lore is already screwed up so this movie has the opportunity to fix it ;P

I don't remember humans getting together with some orcs to fight other orcs in Warcraft. Or that orc lady, whoever she is. I seem to remember all the orcs kicking the shit out of the humans. And then humans and the rest of the alliance kicking the shit out of the orcs in Warcraft 2, all the way to keeping what's left of the horde in reservations. I don't think there was any talking between humans and orcs and joining forces until late in warcraft 3. On a whole different continent.

I'm no expert on Warcraft lore, especially now after years of whatever-the-fuck happens in WoW, but I'm pretty sure I've got that right.

Finally had a few looks at the trailer. Looks promising. Is the plot based around the start of the whole Warcraft thing from the start? .I dont understand why people are so picky about CGI (beyond the obviously bad ones which even blind freddy could tell).

There was a splinter group of orcs working with humans at least in the expansion of Warcraft 2. The half orc lady is bullshit though. Blizzard planned to use the lore of Warcraft 1 before the alliances with elfs, dwarfes and trolls and certainly before the burning legion, the independend necromancers, kung-fu pandas and whatever. Let's just hope the pandas will never happen in this trilogy. At least I guess it will be a trilogy as always.

I don't remember that at all. Still, it was many years since I played that, so no wonder it might have slipped my mind. Was it like the trailer shows though? With Durotan and Lothar?

Which Orc Lady because I am going to assume you are talking about the Orc that seems to be romantically involved with the Human and that Garona Half-Orcen. The woman that betrayed and killed King Llane Wrynn and left Stormwind to be destroyed by the Orcish Horde.

And so far Durotan (the one that held the baby orc in his hand) is one of those Orcs that was against the Orcs doing this because it came at the cost of their freedom since they were enslaved by Demon magic.

(Remember that the original Orcish Horde were pretty much pawns to their Demon Overlords.)

So him siding with humans is at least somewhat consistant to his character.
The thing is all that lore was added after Wacraft 1 and 2. In the build up to Wacraft 3 they made alot of expanded lore for the events of Warcraft 1 and 2. Espercially setting up characters like Thrall.

The trailer pretty much showed the entire storyline, from beginning to end. So I expect a simplistic and predictable storyline but with great effects and cool action, it should be entertaining enough to warrant a look.
