SirPrimalform: Needs a third-party patch for widescreen, doesn't it?

Chakyash: The newest patch that came out few days ago added a widescreen support for 16:9 resolutions
Ah, with correct horizontal field of view? I think I remember being able to set custom resolutions but they just stretched.

It had widescreen resolution support before this patch, it's just I think it wasn't scaled horizonally properly or something, the recent patch does this I believe.
More interested in Warcraft II but I guess it'd be like SC, which was a bit disappointing.

Crosmando: A remaster of WC3 makes no sense, the game runs perfectly fine on modern systems, has widescreen support, anti-aliasing and all that nice stuff. Starcraft remaster made sense because SC was fixed to 640x480 256 colors and looked like ass on widescreen resolutions.
This. Warcraft 3 doesn't need a remaster.
Wouldn't mind a WC3 remaster at all. Hell I'd be extatic. Some higher res textures, properly scaled widescreen support and some new unit portraits would be aces. Though next to the pretty low quality models it might look weird, and perhaps re-doing all the ingame models is beyond the scope of a remaster :P

Like Crosmando said, it had widescreen support that wasn't scaled properly. The newest patch does the scaling properly on 16:9 resolutions.
I just noticed WC3 is available on battle.net. :P Jesus, I gotta pay more attention to this stuff.

Ah, that's good!

I just read that on their website that it was still stretched.

Maybe it was an older post.

And....YES it was an old post, and an old patch.

DreamedArtist: Blizzard games will never see the light of day here
avatar
ZFR: This was said about many games. A good portion of which did appear on GOG.
Warcraft 3 and Diablo 2 are both planned to get remasters, which means they'll probably both be updated to the new Battle.net system, which means they'll never, ever come here or Steam.

I wouldn't be surprised if WC 1 & 2 and Diablo 1 & 2 (original) are released as freeware soon to promote said remasters.

Personally, I really enjoyed the SC Remaster. I'd welcome a WC3 remaster, so what if it doesn't need it? Some slightly nicer looking models would be appreciated by me. Doesn't have to be anything super fancy, just up the detail a little bit more.

Dude, now the compulsive gambler in me wants to make a friendly bet. A 5.99$ game says that either of these 2 games will appear on GOG or Steam before the end of 2019.

THAT is why I ddn't buy WC 3 today when I found out about the new patch. :P

I did buy D2 last week but I really needed a D2 fix and didn't feel like messing with my CDs.
Did the latest WC3 patch infest the game with their client junk yet? Last I remember when the original SC became free, in one of the patches they DRM'ed the game with their client.

I'll hold tight onto my patches from years ago where I can safely enjoy them without shackles.
I know it's heresy, but I don't really care about a WC3 remaster. I want a Diablo rerelease and remaster, and a D2 remaster first. D3 is an abomination that looks and plays better on console than pc, imho.

Just look at the past evidence of their games and business decisions. When Starcraft Remaster came out, it migrated to Battle.net 2.0, they released the original version for free, which also migrated to Battle.net 2.0 for easy upgrade and promotion of both the game and the service. They have their own entire system built around all their games, and haven't needed a 3rd party ever in any of the lifecycles of these games.

It's not hard to see they are extremely protective of their brands. Their particular fanbase has no problem not using Steam or much less GOG. They already roll in money from WoW alone.

But, if you really want to bet, I'm more than confident. Warcraft 3 or Diablo 2 before the end of 2019.
