War Mongrels, or WM, is an isometric real-time tactics game that takes place on the eastern front of World War II. This part of the war has been receiving less attention in gaming, even though it ended or changed a considerable number of lives and brought forward many stories of courage, comradery, but also further proof of twisted societies and the darkest parts of the human character.

Mongrels builds its foundations on these two opposing mental forces. First driven by propaganda, our heroes soon find their purpose in fighting back the expanding Nazi forces that entangled them in the international conflict in the first place. From boys to men in days, they open their eyes to the atrocities of war and find their purpose in the fight to prevent further meaningless killing.

The heavily history-inspired storyline guides players through the journey of two Wehrmacht soldiers as they go from deserters to hefty guerilla fighters. Their team expands as they meet new characters who support the same cause. As each character has their own set of skills and advantages, players must learn to combine them effectively to outsmart the enemy during a variety of missions in a changing environment. Sneaking, distraction, silent kills, and using the environment are some of the main skills players will have to take to heart, but a stock of firearms will also be available and useful in completing mission objectives. And as the goal of every hero is to save others and hopefully survive, our heroes strive to prevent the deaths of innocent people instead of getting away from the war as originally intended.

Holy moly. I can't wait already! Looks like Mimimi Games got a competitor :-)

Destructive Creations is a great studio, their Ancestors Legacy is a superb game. GOG, please get War Mongrels for us here!

ancestors legacy is a great game you say? maybe if i can pass the first missions i will reconsider but... really working your way around a map with 3 vikings that i belief learns you the value of formations was a bit much

i could see myself thoughout the game working as a madman to set the right formations in the right situations all of the time clicking myself into death

this was not a fine prospect, was it well deducted or do you have another experience?

Best of luck to them! I'm looking forward to it and i hope reviewers won't be so harsh when they inevitably compare it to the Commandos series.
Given that the Commandos series as a whole took quite a bit of a dent because of Kalypso's overzealously censored/tamed Commandos 2 HD Remaster (which also doesn't bode well at all for the new entry in the series, currently in development at Kalypso's inhouse Claymore Game Studios) I'm sure something like War Mongrels or Partisans 1941 will be more than welcome as a surrogate or even replacement.

Please give it a second try. Formations are important, but more important is positioning of your squads and differentiation of your army. After the squads clash with each other, maneuvering of your other troops will make a difference, not a formation of your units within a clash.

I completed the whole game, along with DLC - tons of fun! I strongly recommend it to all RTT and RTS fans!

Comparison to Shadow Tactics and Desperados III will be more common, as these games mastered Commandos' gameplay idea to perfection. But of course Commandos is the primal reference.

I was thinking about the fact that it shares the same setting as Commandos, but the ones you mention are more recent titles which most younger folks should be more familiar with so maybe you're right.
Here's hoping for similarly vast and sprawling levels as those found in Commandos 2, but that's perhaps a bit of a tall order. Still, looks phenomenal.
low rated
good keep it on itchio

Orkhepaj: good keep it on itchio
Why? Seeing that the devs are Polish, it's a sure bet it'll come here eventually.

What is the new Commandos called? Any trailer or gameplay out yet?

itchio usually has pixel style games, if gog allows some of those here I dont see why not this game since it looks more advanced.
