AMC's Humans. Nothing groundbreaking, but good robot sci-fi.

Sorry, I'm something of a Red Dwarf fanatic ;-)

Yes - exactly like I said!

(there are also comic and fiction references - as well as the Robert Llwellyn page on it).
Tried X-files?
You could also check Torchwood. It's like... dr who done wrong, that is with added sex and violence to try to look more mature, and ending up looking less mature*. It's still watchable, and increasingly so as the series progresses.

And yes, it's Torchwood as in : Torchwood (the doctor who anagram). It's the institute lead by Jack Harness in parallel to the Doctor's adventures (before and after the "utopia" episode). So, it's the same universe. Somehow. Supposedly.

If anything it has a great soundtrack.

____
* It's no game of thones level, though, it's still the BBC. It's all very relative.

immi101: Continuum
Saw the first episodes and found it being a little slow in pace

Wishbone:
Never saw Red Dwarf, but the appearance of the characters are a bit too caricate to me and reading about the series the humor doesn't sounds the type I normally like

Breja:
The problem in seeing series with my parents is if they don't like the series from the beginning, forget. But maybe one day I give HIghlander a new try, even if I decide to see alone. And will check Blake 7

Saw the first 2 or 3 episodes, my parents didn't liked because is more serious than Dr. Who

gandalfnho: Isn't too much terror?
No, watch the first two episodes and you'll see. Those are actually the pilot, and then the regular episodes start. It's basically crime detective/mystery TV series but with a twist, and they're very fun.

Actually, if you're scared by very old vampire movies, you might find the second episode a bit scary (esp. towards the end), however ultimately after that, from ep. 3 onwards, they aren't really scary and if you or your parents like 90s and earlier TV series like Monk and others you'll really enjoy the feeling of this one. Except unlike Monk it's not really that much focused on the humour, although it's very funny at times.

gandalfnho: Hercules and Xena
Want more Sam Raimi? He also produced Legend of the Seeker, which is based on Terry Goodkind's The Sword of Truth novels. It's more serious than Hercules or Xena, but there's still a bit of humor here and there.

Check out Star Trek Enterprise. Great show. Just as good as The Original Series and The Next Generation. But you have to be kind of patient with the characters. Captain Archer is a noob compared to Picard and Kirk. I'd stay away from Babylon 5. Too much talking and really annoying characters.

How about Millennium?

Also, kind of science fiction, but more of a parody of the educational science films decades ago. Look Around You was a very amusing show.

huN73R: The Lost Room
Nice one! It's shame they never continued the series, but at least there was a conclusion.

It's too bad it never achieved as much success as it deserved. Firefly's name pops up almost immediately in this sort of threads but Lost Room's name doesn't. Not that Firefly was bad, I just consider that it deserves to be as popular as Firefly.

Stargate (both SG-1 and Atlantis)I never was into the SG series except the last one. I found the concept interesting with derelict ship.
Star Trek (Original Series and Next Generation)Classic for me. I enjoyed both. Both had good and bad episodes. But every TV show has there cheese. :P
AndromedaI liked it early on but somewhere I lost interest. Don't recall why.
FarscapeI really enjoyed this. Found it great. Good watch.
Dr. WhoI couldn't get into this show old or new. Dunno why it just doesn't appeal to my taste.
Eureka never heard of it.
Warehouse 13 No clue what this is.
Quantum Leap Interesting concept. I just couldn't get into it.
Seven Days No clue what this show is.
Early Edition ??
Primeval Not interested personally.
Grimm I like this show. Started to pickup with the cool story but found last season ending abit off and didn't like the outcome. But I do like the lore.
Fringe Didn't like it much.
Hercules and XenaI had mix feelings sometimes I enjoyed it and other times I hated it. I felt they made hercules too passive compared to Xena. She could hurt and beat the shit out someone and hercules had to be the good boy. To politically correct for my taste in the end.
Merlin (the BBC one) I enjoyed this. Fun to watch.
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine I'll have to agree but later on it was more interesting with the dominion wars. Not as good as Shadow wars like in B5.
Primeval New World never heard of it
Once Upon a Time I think my wife watches this..
Lexx I too not interested in this.
Red Dwarf I found this to be entertaining. Its a cheesy comedy space scify show.
Star Trek (Voyager and Enterprise)I didn't like ether of these. In my opinion Star trek has strayed so far off Gene's vision of that universe I lost hope for the show. However Enterprise Mirror episodes where cool. They should have done that instead would have kicked ass.
Babylon 5First season is slow and builds on characters and its universe. But after that it gets good. Must watch.

You may want to consider Firefly, Only one season but well done.
A classic is Space Above and Beyond Damn good. both of these shows had promise but was cut after the first season.
There is also Battlestar galactica. I prefer the original series. I didn't like the newer one. Maybe I'm just old school. :P

I like shows to have good story with awesome characters. I don't care if they use models or puppets or CGI as long as its feels believable to the universe. First seasons tend to be the worst because of character development. So I try to keep and open mind. I prefer dark and mature stories but on occasion cheese is good. ;)
