Well, I'll jump in with the obvious suggestion of Firefly. Unfortunately it lasted only one season (and later on a movie), but it was damned fine entertainment.
Oh, and older fare that was campy as hell, but I still enjoyed, was Space 1999 and Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. But that's getting back to mid-late '70s and early '80s. Perhaps too old for what you're wanting?

Oh, and there's also Battlestar Galactica (the new one is great, the old one is campy as all getout, but still holds a spot in my heart).

Firefly and Dark Matter. Firefly is an absolute must. Dark Matter I wasn't expecting much of but pleasantly surprised me.

Well, if you didn't like DS9 you probably won't like Babylon 5. But I wonder how far you got with DS9- the first three seasons are definately way weaker than the later ones, and there is no shortage of both great stories and action there (it's the biggest war Trek universe ever had after all). Babylon 5 is even better, it's quite possibly the best tv show ever for me. The first season might also fall into the "too much talking" category, but it's well written, and provides very necessary background for future events. It has to be seen in full to appreciate just how good it is.

Voyager and Enterprise are very divisive, but I like them both, even though they are weaker than other Treks. Voyager gets really good with the season 3 finale, and Enterprise really picks up in seasons 3 and even more in 4.

I think you should enjoy some stuff from the classic Doctor Who, especially the fourth and seventh Doctors.

Also, I highly recommend the classic series The Prisoner. It's not exactly sci-fi, at least not in "in spaaaace", but it's a phenomenal show very inteligent, very unique. It was ahead of it's time.

There is also Blake's 7, a British "anti-Trek" if you will, about a group of rebels fighting agains a oppressive, totalitarian Federation. Terrible special effects, great writing and great acting from the two leaders of the rebels, idealistic Blake and cynical but highly intelligent Kerr Avon.

There was also a very short british sci-fi show "Space Cops", it only got some 6 episodes, but it's very good. No aliens, no time travel, it's much more realistic. Good, intelligent sci-fi.

Total Recall 2070, which is actually sort of a blend between themes from Total Recall and Blade Runner only got one season, but it's definately worth watching. Stylish, with some unique ambitions.

And finally Highlander the Tv Series. Of all the various sequals and spin-off of the original great movie this is the only really good one, at least for the most part. While many of the additions to the Highlander mythos would definately not work good for the movie, here they mostly make good use of them. It had a lot of really good stories and interesting characters, and explored a lot of what immortality could mean for different people, good, bad, or neither.

Dunno if McGoohan's "The Prisoner" would look too old and cheesy for you, but I still consider it an absolutely brilliant must-see.

Interesting little known British one for you:

The Last Train

Showed some promise but never got a second series sadly. Worth a watch though. "Young Erin Grey in spandex!!"

You might be interested in this then, even though it's still quite some way off. Add Killjoys to the list as well. Was right before or after Dark Matter, and it did seem quite interesting as well. Now to see if it's renewed or not.

If it had single player, I'd be all over it. Not into on-line MMO-style games though. Indeed!

Forget to include Firefly in my list, watched both the series and the movie, good rememberance. And I saw lots of those campy series from 60's and 70's too, including these 2 you cited, good shows. And never saw the newer Galactica, only the original (including the awfull Galactica 80...) Firefly is nice, the othe rone don't know. Isn't much dark? Only saw the first season, which was the one they exhibited at the open TV in the time here and I was interested in Babylon 5 especially because of the creator (he wrote very good comics). Regarding the Treks, I always heared about Voyager being the weakest one and was curious with Enterprise because the captain is the same actor who works in Quantum Leap.

Highlander: The Series I saw the beginning and didn't like much, prefered the movies (except the last one...)

The other series are unknown to me, need to do a check-up (the problem sometimes with more obscure stuff is finding in my idiom, my parents doesn't understand english enough to watch movies with non-translated subtitles. Will do a check-up Isn't too much terror? Will check this one too

Sorry, I'm something of a Red Dwarf fanatic ;-)

I must confess I don't understand your complete rejection of that series. You say you want humor, and that snarker characters are a must. Those two things pretty much define Red Dwarf. Admittedly, it only really hit its stride in season 3, when Robert Llewellyn joined the cast, and personally I think it got rather weak from the middle of season 7 and onwards, but season 3-6 is some of the best stuff that has ever been on TV.

I would recommend giving DS9 another try. I know the start is slow, but it really pays off in spades later on. In fact, it's a common thing for the Star Trek shows, they're of to a rocky start, and get really good after a season or two. Voyager and Enterprise are much the same.

Voyager I think is mostly disliked because it does not offer the story arcs and character arcs people were expecting after DS9. It very much takes things one episode at a time. And if you're fine with that approach, it's really good, especially from season 4 onwards. It does some things wrong, there's no denying that, but it's still well worth a watch.

Much like the Treks, it gets way better past the first season, and further on. It really gets good once you get more supporting characters, like Methos, a mysterious immortal, possibly the oldest one alive. And the actor playing Duncan got much better in futher seasons.

If you want something that does not take time to improve, and starts of strong, go with Blake's 7. The first two seasons are by far the best.
