Quick question, do you know of any walkthrough sites that focus on just the really essential tips so you don't get stuck in a game?

I'm mostly thinking about those old graphic adventures with terrible designs, especially the ones where you can do something wrong that messes up your progress later. They let you make that mistake, don't warn you, and sometimes you don't even realize you're stuck, you could be locked in a dead end and not even know it.

Do you know of any site that focuses on that kind of thing? Not full walkthroughs, just some warnings to be aware about key moments to watch out before moving on.

Have you tried Gameboomers, they are rather good with adventure game walkthroughs.

Universal Hint System is great, as it provides you with your chosen "level" of hints without spoiling anything more than you're comfortable with. But I'm not sure if it's going to be exactly what you're looking for, since it's more about giving incremental hints to particular puzzles then listing the game's possible dead ends up front.

Gaming mags of old were usually a good source for such hints.

But when it comes to modern online help...I guess, the normal walkthroughs are your best bet, since they (the good ones, at least) will deliver you such hints in a separate chapter ("general hints", etc), before the actual WT, so you don't have to slavishly follow along the WT to the point(s) in a game, where such snares occur, to be warned of them.

It sounds like a great idea, but I wonder if there would really be a lot of people contributing to that. I mean, pick a classic adventure game at random, and a simple google search will find you more walkthrough than there are cringeworthy jokes in the average Disney Marvel movie. People might feel like it's pointless to write another one. As for recommendations... well, we used to have GOGmixes, but GOG decided it's too useful and well liked a feature to just keep it around :P

So... like Steam Community guides but for GOG?
