darthspudius: I'm a bit confused at what people are so scared of people seeing. What games you on? Which ones you have played? Your friends? Can they get your postal address, credit card details and bank info from your profile page?

From all I've seen on this subject, you're all a bunch of paranoid sods.
Why should it make a difference? Privacy is privacy. If you don't want somebody to see it, you should be able to hide it, simple as that.
You could make the same argument with nearly anything else. "How does it hurt to know somebody's first name? There's a bunch of people out there with your name, you can't find out anything from that."
"What do I care if people see my address? It's not like any of you here is going to travel across the world to find me. You don't even know what I look like."
"Picture of me? Who cares? None of you know me anyways."

If you want to share info, then go right ahead, but you shouldn't be forced to share anything regardless of what it is. Steam already does this quite well, letting you select a "private" option that hides literally everything about a user. Why can't GOG do the same?

While I agree with having an option to hide everything about your activity on GOG, should you chose so, I don't think this should be in any way tied to what other digital distribution services are offering.

It's common sense after all, so we don't need to get into any "Your friend John got an A+ on the test, so why couldn't you study as hard as him and get the same grade instead of a C?" type of situations :).

In which case you might want to try being a paranoid sod for a day... it can make your life more exciting! :P

You misunderstand the issue; It's not about anyone having anything to hide. It's about others not having the right to know/see.

But at least you took the opportunity to call others "paranoid sods". Well done.
Agree with this as this should be the default

Yep, totally.

It may come as a tad of a surprise, if not shock, to you, but what you're doing there is called wish and attempt to muzzle our voices.

You've posted the same arguments over and over in every thread even mildly related to this issue, so by the same token, we should be asking for your posts to be deleted, eh?

Why does it bother you? You don't have to partake in every related thread, you don't even have to read them, if they bother you.

Oh, and I'm still waiting for you to explain how profiles are completely optional.

If you want to ground HOG... I mean GOG, for getting a C, that's fine with me, just don't bring Ste... John into this :). We've been getting a lot of John-mongering in recent years anyway: "John has a client. John has achievements. John gets all the revenue. Be like John." which lead to a lot of unfortunate developments if you ask me.

Cambridge Analytica has used utterly harmless data that facebook was giving aplenty for large scale psychological voter manipulation in the style of targeted marketing.

GOG is obviously attempting some targeted marketing here.
And, whooops, is that a facebook login button I see?

There's paranoid sods, and there's those who wake up and smell the coffee. GOG is pulling off some, at best, dangerously naive bullshit right now. Dangerously naive bullshit that stands in direct contradiction to their professed values and comes at exactly the time that some people have thankfully started smelling said coffee.

Goddamn, is there a single thing in the whole universe which you have a correct view on? You're always, 100% of the time, wrong, about everything, no exceptions. Too much Fallout 3 has fried your brain bro.

Yes, let's spam the whole forum with profile page threads because GOG surely hasn't noticed you don't like them yet.

Well, who knows, really. They're usually giving a shit about what's happening in their forum. They call it a "hands off" policy. So we can't really know whether they actually noticed / got the message until we have an official reaction, a statement of the path they'll be taking in the future and an assurance of or at least a brutal clarification of the values that they'll still intend to stand by.

Well, they did get the message. Not necessarily via forum, but via support tickets from several people. But their only reply was "Nah, nah! Not talking to you!" (slightly rephrased)
