It also means we won't get a fixed offline version for Saints Row 3 Remaster.
The writing was on the wall.

The PC port of Saints Row 2 is cursed to suffer forever thanks to CD Projekt's mistakes.
Given their last two games (Agents of Mayhem and "Saints Row 2022") were dull and a pointless reboot with awful characters and writing respectively, this doesn't come as a surprise.

It would be a shame if the direction of (in particular) SR2022 was set by Embracer rather than Volition (by which I mean to say if Volition didn't intend to make a pointed politicised piece of garbage), but if Volition did this of their own volition, then I support the closure.
This isn't unexpected tbh, they already restructured the team months ago.

A few years ago I'd be 'sad' of Volition closing down, but their last games weren't even mediocre. Sure I had fun with Agents of Mayhem, but it doesn't compare to Volitions earlier SR games.

MaxFulvus: Embracer Group is shutting down the 30-year old studio Volition (Freespace, Red Faction, Saints Row...).
If the Embracer Group needs more money, perhaps they should bring more of their subsidiary's games to GOG. My wallet is ready :P.

^This

I thought we'd finally get the other Tomb Raider games after the IP changed hands.

Sucks we're never ever getting that SR2 patch.
It means neither of thos things. The SR franchise is still owned by Embracer, who still can do what they want with it, including any possible patches, changes, reboots, new entries what-ever. It just means they will not be made by Volition.
Hey, hey, hey, not so fast! You assholes still haven't returned the stolen Saints Row IV Game of the Century edition that was replaced with a shitty product, with no way to revert back!

Well, if you have hopes that a new team will fix what the others didn't for years ... fingers crossed.

I'm not saying that they will do it, just that Volition closing down is not changing anything either way.

Breja: I think of all their games I only ever played Saint's Row 2, for like 5 minutes, and decided I absolutely hate it, and that was it, so I'm not exactly heartbroken. Even so, seeing any studio die to the tune of that vomit-inducing corpo-speak is kind of depressing. Seriously, that announcement sounds like something out of a RoboCop style dystopian parody.
I didn't even recall Volition made the Saints Row games (as I was wondering after seeing this news: "Have they even made any new games since the past two decades or so?").

I will always remember Volition for one of the most dramatic and effective game intros I've ever seen:

This is actually great news and a perfect example of "get woke, go broke."

I applaud Embracer Group for doing this.

The world needs way less trash games and way less woke games.

Oh God ! We should raise money to support poor Randy . :p
Hmmmm, Silent (of GTA Modding fame and other mods) seems to be looking into what is going on with SR2 PC Patch:
