Sildring: Honestly everything can be addictive but for me a "real addiction" is when you do something against your will.

DadJoke007: Nobody forces an alcoholic to drink booze, it's by free will.
As with any addiction you can simply blame people for not trying hard enough, but in reality you know it's not that easy.

I did not blame anyone for not trying hard enough, I simply stated that they choose alcohol with free will. Every time they give in they choose to give in by free will, not by some mysterious force.

Sounds like the first step towards gamer genocide.
You like to think that you're immune to the stuff, oh yeah...
In this case, is it "addictive" or "addicting?" I never know which one to use.

Tauto: Big Deal! Tell me something I don't know:)
They just want to push their narrative that games=bad either because they believe such or their backers want them to push that narrative.

But it's as TinyE said below:
When I quit drinking I replaced it with gaming. Sometimes people give me shit for trading one addiction for another, and I agree, but remind them, I've never been pulled over by a cop and asked if I had been playing Doom that night. I never got into a bar fight because of too much Diablo. I never woke up the next morning with no clue where the hell I was because of Badlur's Gate.
Not all addictions are the same, and if I had kids i'd rather they be addicted to games(well maybe not the ones that cost a sh*tton of money to keep playing) than alcohol/hard drugs/etc.

paladin181: This is just from the pearl clutching about predatory mircrotransactions and the psychological manipulation in loot boxes. Nothing to see here.
The IRL money lootboxes ARE a problem to those with addictive personalities, though.....same with casinos.

Yes, but once they're hooked it's very difficult to stop if you have such a personality.

Free will plays a part if you consider free will to be truly free(as in not controlled by other factors like upbringing/environment/past experiences/etc).

I'd rather they labelled relevant games 'unaddictive', so I could avoid them.

tinyE: Okay so I just did some checking and it turns out a lot of the games sold here contain Trans Fats
Siege of Dragonspear...

Everyone has baggage, the question is how you choose to handle it with your free will and willpower. Everyone is handed different cards and some hands are tougher to deal with, sure, but you still choose what to do with the hand you are dealt.

Yuck, that touchy-feely stuff almost made me feel like a soft hippie. I need a shower.

Some call it baggage, and others call it the true free will/that everything is determined by past experiences/etc.

There is also genetics involved. Some people are physically more prone to become alcoholics once they try alcohol and drink regularly, just because of their genes.

Now at least in European countries with lax laws concerning gambling, locals with gambling machines are appearing like fungi after the november rains. Often in impoverished neighbourhoods, sometimes in places near schools or colleges, etcetera. If you ever get to watch the tv series Broken, featuring Sean Bean, you will get the idea.

Sounds like at typical Sunday morning for the Nameless One, around Sigil and who knows where else ;-)

LOL video games being addicting? with all the DLC, Loot boxes and micro transactions, I call it a disease and should be cured.
People are ignoring the number of elements that are put in games to make them deliberately addictive or have that effect.

This is a different issue from people with addictive personalities playing games too much.

You know, I actually did get yelled at one day at work because of gaming.
The day AFTER Diablo 2 came out.
I bought it the day it came out and literally played it through to the next day without sleeping. I looked like I had been out drinking all night, and, being half asleep I wasn't able to accomplish much in the way of work. XD

1. This is true.....In had to experience such personally when my mother started into drinking 10+ years ago(due to family losses/problems). She kept at it until her passing a year or so ago, no matter how much we tried convincing her to stop. :(

2. People will always find ways to skirt the law......this is one good/bad aspect of humanity(i.e. our ingenuity).

3. Lol, that game is some fun times. (I should really finish it someday....but with all the paths/choices it's hard on one with completionism ocd like myself)

This bit reminds me of when I first got System Shock 2....I played it so much that I neglected to keep track of the time and clocked around 16 hours or more before realizing it. Good times.
