LootHunter: My takeaway from this - Paradox didn't care about making a worthy sequel in the first place. Avellon and Mitsoda were hired just to attract the fans, not actually write the story.
+1. It seems Paradox just wanted to make some lazy cash-grab game using the Bloodlines IP and hired the two of them for publicity purposes. It's the only reason I can think of why they wouldn't hire them to do the actual writing. It seems like a very sad state of affairs.

Yeah, looks like it might be an actual scam.

Don't know how the butthurt guy can think Avellone's answer is useless, when it says everything you need to know about Bloodlines 2 development.
“Deep, endless, complex, unyielding games,” is how Shams Jorjani, the company’s chief business development officer, describes Paradox’s offerings.

You couldn't make it up! :P
They did say that they would be collaborating with another developer to finish the game so it's not really cancelled, I guess?

As for Hardsuit Labs, now there's a 0.1% chance they'll return to Blacklight: Retribution. *sigh*

Hall says he's learned two things in the past four years. "One, shut up and make your game, and two, shut up and make your game."

This is not directed towards Avellone's well written post mortem, this is directed at the companies announcing the game before the game is even beta.

ChrisGamer300: Paradox are parasites, they suck up people, games and vomit up a plauge ridden corpse but not before they hatched a plan to slowly masquerade as the benefactor of another project, then some time after the projects release they decide to milk the player dry.

Screw Paradox and everyone associated with their leadership in the ass.
The irony here is, you'd think that would make them the perfect candidate to make a game about undead, possibly plague ridden corpses masquerading as humans in a world that they corrupt around them for cash and favors.

I know but it turns out Paradox isn't particularly subtle in how they handle things so masquerading their intents for the player is not an option as they rather blow up a shitstorm and take the naive players money with a sledgehammer to their faces. This is why they are not the best home for bloodlines 2.

Not to mention the bloodlines curse is even stronger now then when troika had the rights to this game series.

Oh no, I agree completely. My comment was entirely facetious, just based on how you described them.

Ancient-Red-Dragon: No, he doesn't sound like that at all. Rather, he sounds like a profane, obscene, butthurt, mentally unstable lunatic.

He is right that his answer is 100% useless though.

And it's also BS when he says people can't talk because they aren't allowed to. They could easily contact Jason Schreier and leak all the information anonymously, just as countless other devs have already done so in the past, and none of them ever received any repercussions for it.
I got this view too from him, someone who clearly wants to be look like a badass with all the unnecessary swearing, just faking to be a straight-up guy, with very huge ego issues.
Probably a person who is very hard to work with.

The whole blabla could have been summarizes into, he knows nothing about it or just lies and doesn't want to say anything.
I would assume he is lying. This is one of his dream work and he doesn't ask about its current status and has no idea whats going on after being basically fired?
Come on who believes that.

nope , all fishy points to an ideological corruption within paradox ranks , the one which makes corps go broke

Web-translated from the original Swedish article:

"PARADOX BELIEVES IN BLOODLINES, WAITS BIG BETTING ROLE GAME - CEO (Direct)

STOCKHOLM (Nyhetsbyrån Direkt) Paradox's investment in Vampire The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 was seen as a first step for the gaming company into the role-playing game genre. But after the game has been delayed several times, that step is no longer as obvious, but Paradox now wants to wait and see how the game is received before the next big bet is made.

This is what CEO Fredrik Wester says in an interview with Nyhetsbyrån Direkt.

Paradox, with its roots in strategy and management games, announced the role-playing game Bloodlines 2 in early 2019. After shooting the game release several times, Paradox landed earlier this year in that there is no longer a fixed launch year. Throughout the delay period, however, there has been talk that Bloodlines 2 will open the door for Paradox into a third game genre - role-playing games.

Will you that you already are in the genre to stay or do you want to first see how it goes for Bloodlines 2 ?

Fredrik Wester:
I would like to see how Bloodlines is received before we bet the next big money in the genre. There is a huge desire for good games in the role-playing game genre so I absolutely do not want to close any doors. But I would like to see what happens, what can we do and how Bloodlines is received.

The schedule for Bloodlines 2 has been affected by both staff dropouts and the pandemic. The decision to adapt the game for the new console generations Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X has also contributed. The game has been developed for several years by Hardsuit Labs, a game studio that is 33 percent owned by Paradox, but in February the news came that a collaboration had begun with a new studio partner.

How close have you been to shutting down the game, or has it become too big not to continue?

Fredrik Wester:
When we lifted the game from the original developer, we had a long review in case we should end the game or run it further. Then we were actually prepared to close the production completely. But we got a 'pitch' that we thought was convincing enough to run. played on and we have very good hopes that it will be a good game that meets the players' expectations.

Paradox has not yet announced who took over the development of Bloodlines 2 . Fredrik Wester fits the question but states that it is "a very reputable and talented developer" who has made a number of different games before.

Bloodlines 2 is part of the World of Darkness series and is based on one of many brands (IP) Paradox took over with the purchase of White Wolf Publishing several years ago. The most famous are Vampire: The Masquerade, Werewolf: The Apocalypse and Mage: The Ascension. In addition to the ongoing work with Bloodlines 2 , Paradox has, among other things, licensed a number of IPs in recent years.

Paradox has previously said that the company will eventually want to make many of the games in the World of Darkness universe itself. But with a delay for Bloodlines 2 , it seems that at the moment it is leaning towards more outlicensing.

Fredrik Wester:
I also think we should start looking a little more at which active partners want to start working with our World of Darkness IPs. We have to ask ourselves how we should do to develop the brand and the universe, if we should maybe co-finance, how we will work with licensing and so on.

When Bloodlines 2's developers were replaced at the beginning of the year, there was speculation in the industry media that the game more or less needed to be redone from the beginning. However, these are speculations that Fredrik Wester does not confirm, but he states that much of the development that was done then can still be used in the game.

There has also been speculation in a launch of Bloodlines 2 at best in 2023?

Fredrik Wester:
We have a while left, so you could say."
I'm definitely curious to know who the new developer will be. I hope this is a sign that they are set to announce more things sooner than later. While others may disagree, I'm still looking forward to a bloodlines 2 sequel.
I don't think it was a good idea to have continued a greenlight after losing their devteam twice, the entire writing staff, and the series lead.

But hey, maybe I'm not in gamedev for a reason.
I just want for this game to happen, it's the Bloodlines 2 after all.
