Saberwolf_Prime: The major problem is people getting their accounts hacked games deleted.
Then they should be more careful. Maybe they can remember other password than "password" and they could also activate the Steam Guard. That might help. I pretty much have different, random generated passwords for each website i have. I use Dashlane, that's an password manager in order to keep track of them. It got an auto-fill function, i pretty much login and create accounts much faster than before and and i'm using passwords that look like H2sa3XZaaw024dfAs. Even better, i never type it, as it auto-fill, so key loggers wouldn't work.
I got an old email account hacked a while back and i realized that using a single password everywhere it's not the best thing.

Most people are getting hacked by their fault and by their friends, as they give their account details to them. A hacker that could hack your Steam account without you giving him information in order to do so, it's smart enough to know that hacking your email account would be much more profitable for him.
You know, given how many people here on GOG treat their views on publishers and customer relations as some kind of divine crusade, I'd have thought the ability to symbolically destroy something you disapprove of would be more widely approved.

If Valve sent the publishers stats on how many people have deleted their games, I bet people would be queuing up to push the "**** you, developers" button on, say, Payday 2 after the microtransaction debacle.

brunosiffredi: Steam has something like 15.000 games on the store right now, with more or less 20 new games being added on a daily basis.
Actually it's between 6 and 7 thousand.
Ah, good. Got rid of a few mistakes that should never have been made. Thanks for pointing this out!

I guess it's not a major problem. If they manage to get their account back they just also should get their deleted games back. Steam surely keeps track of which games get deleted and can undelete them.

Coming from GOG such things never really seem to be a big problem because without DRM it doesn't really matter so much if games are only in the "online library" or not.

Doesn't seem like such a major problem since they only have to follow the same process to instantly get them back.

Well, looks like that got sorted out. If they keep a track on it, then yes it should be possible to undo the deletion. Only time will tell how this feature fares. No consequence to me since I do not have a Steam account.

I agree with you, being DRM-free, this is not a big of an issue on GOG.

Wait till people start having public profiles with Galaxy, they'll start caring :)

In a way I think that this year Steam/Valve focused on customer service (with two hour trial perod, paid mods, permanent delete option) maybe due to lack of other options or because they learned that bigger plans (Steam OS) do not work that good.

In the end this could give a hint how the GOG vs. Steam competition is going to end: by the service with the better service will be winning.

Unfortunately I'm not convinced GOG will make it. Their track record is especially low in the "let's make live easier for our customers" department. It's on of their weaknesses. My impression is they rather catch on with the games than with the service.

tomimt: Well it's not that uncommone here either seeing people asking how to get rid of their free games. On some occasions the mods have had to remove the games from peoples account, though it has always baffeled me why.
I don't get it either. With the exception of a couple of games, the freebies GOG's offering are actually really good! And now they removed the annoying "free" tag that appeared on game boxes from the library, so it's even better.

ReynardFox: I want that feature HERE.

I hate having a redundant copy of Guacamelee and Ethan Carter.
I mean, in such a case I'd be happy if GOG added a 1 time trade option. I wouldn't mind ridding you of these 2 games. :P

I guess the natural desire for order and cleaniness which even extends to virtual libraries.

70 posts in this thread are probably a sign that this indeed bothers quite some people (others not however).

I mean, don't get me wrong. This Steam feature is neat, and I, myself, lost a good hour sorting through my library all the crap that I got in my younger years from bundles, stuff that I would have to force myself to play just because it sits there in my library. Alas, here I am talking about those small indie projects who turn out crap and plague the 1 dollar bundles.

But I don't get what's wrong with GOG's freebies. Most of them don't fall in the category I just mentioned. And how is one to complete an Ultima collection in his GOG library if he does not accept at least 2 of the freebies?

I still think GOG has a better service than Steam. The permament game deletion is useless and downright makes troll hackers to overuse it. Sure, there is mobile authentication, but it's easy to get the phone number (at least for hackers).

Now imagine getting your account hacked, get it back and see all of your games deleted.

That's why ya have option to hide the game in a 1st place. Hell, if you have a mess in your library, don't delete games, just sort em in your own categories and rely on search tab.

As for the additional security. That's actually the fault of stupidity. I know it's harsh, but it's the truth. Stupid people are easier to get tricked, if only Valve could just censor the phising links in a 1st place.......OH WAIT! They did! But for torrent sites only!
Now they just need to add the option to permanently remove all DRM from their games.
