Valhalla Hills is a new Settlers like game made by the developers that worked on Settlers 2 and Cultures series and are now working for Funatics (game published by Daedalic). The game is in early access at the moment till first half of 2016.
So what is Valhalla Hills?
Basically its a Settlers like game with a twist. You play as Wikings that have fought bravely all their lives in order to get to Asgard but when they get to the doors of Asgard they are shut. So what happened? Odin the ruler of Asgard has a son named Leko that since his youth has been only for playing with bricks and is not good in what makes a Wiking, Wiking. So on his 18th birthday Leko fails the god exams and is exiled by Odin to earth and appointed "God of the builders".
So Leko finds himself together with the Wikings barred from Vahlhalla. So Leko gathers the slain wiking heroes and promises to lead them with his constructional abilities to the peak of Valhalla Hills to a magical portal that will bring them at the end of their journey to Asgard.
The game encompasses traditional Settlers gameplay but with a twist. Every game starts on a randomly generated magical island which expands in to the heights so at higher levels you get huge mountains to settle and to ultimately reach the magical portal at the peak of it where you need to defeat the monsters that guard it so that you can advance to the next level. Or you can take the peacefull way and give offerings to the monsters guarding the portal. It does have a bit of a cultures influence with Wikings having names and some basic needs like food and sleep.
